Ever since I hit diamond 5, I haven't been able to win more than two games in a row! I've started to add people to ask what they rank they were, and nearly all of them are players who already hit legend. I get it that blizzard wants it to be more fair for new players to go against opponents their skill level, but its frustrating when I'm trying to hit legend, and I go against players who already accomplished that. Not to mention that they're generally playing decks from the previous expansion (Galakrond Warlock). :(
Dude you already on D5, there are not much differences between D5 and low Legend. Even before these ranked system changes, it was possible to match legend players when you're at Rank 2(If I'm not mistaken) Now, D5 is like old Rank 2. Maybe you have a little bit more MMR than an average Rank 5 player.
Anyway, if your matches started a Win-Lose circle with equal or below than %50 winrate, then you're probably at the rank that you should be. You need to be able to win matches against high Diamond-low Legend players, otherwise you can't reach legend.
Tank your MMR enough so that you can farm worse players for 15 extra wins to reach legend. All other approaches will leave you with a ≈50% winrate and you will stay at Diamond 5 forever.
Why would all other approaches leave you at 50%?
The goal of a MMR is to leave players at 50% winrate. To reach legend you have to outperform yourself for a stretch of games, if MMR would be the only way to decide Matchmaking.
Then, if you already played very well into Diamond 5 you'll find yourself against a wall, because if you already played to the best of your abilities you can't get better, but get matched up against similarly good players from legend ranks. This would leave you with a 50% winrate and thus at Diamond 5.
You basically have two options to reach Diamond 5 in a total MMR scenario:
1. Play somewhat sloppily to diamond 5, then increase your game: counter the meta, play to the best of your abilities, etc.. This way you might get a stretch of wins, to reach legend ranks.
2. Reach diamond 5, then tank your MMR rating and then try to reach legend from there.
In both scenarios you have to play a stretch of games with a skill above your perceived MMR rating. I sincerely hope that Blizzard kept that in mind when designing the new ranked system.
Sure that would be how it works if it was chess. It’s not though and you’re fully able to adapt to the meta. It doesn’t equate to 50% if you counter the popular decks which is the entire point of laddering at higher ranks, therefore your comment there are no alternatives is simply incorrect. If you only want to play your fun deck and then expect to hit legend you’re obviously going to be disappointed.
Because the whole point of the MMR system is that you should play people close to your skill level. It DOESN'T MATTER WHAT RANK YOUR OPPONENT IS, if you're EQUAL IN SKILL. You have to grind out the climb to Legend tho, it's not as easy as playing 20 games and there, you're in.
Also, I have people on my friendslist who are 15k+...this is gonna be the season with the most Legend players ever.
So what's the point of rank then? Why do we have stars? Or are they just meaningless progression? Why not just show real MMR?
The people reaching legend first are the best players . While the once below that will come up after them once the best are in legend and no longer top of the ranking system. They will also be at that rank earlier because of star bonus. So everything is set up to where it is most competitive and the best will reach the goal first, creating a spot for the second best to reach the goal second etc.

It is a crap system designed to frustrate players and get them to spend money chasing meta decks to complete the grind.
Everyone started at bronze 10, do you really think those who reached legend play on a different MMR than you? They have access to the same cards as you do. There are stronger players on high ranks that's all it is. You felt you were good because of those star bonuses, you weren't. Anyone with enough star bonus can reach Diamond with a negative winrate. What a dummy.
Big talk from someone who doesn't understand the game. Once you reach a certain skill level, it doesn't matter how good you are, just what cards you run. How do you know what cards I have? You assume everyone has the same collection. I can't spend hundreds of dollars on virtual cards. Maybe you can, and that's why you think you think you can talk trash. Star bonuses don't have to do with shit, cause it's meant to help higher rank players go through the ranks faster. Mine ran out at plat 10, so I guess my negative win rate got me all the way to diamond 5. Maybe I should ask advice from you so I can gEt GoOd.
You didn't even understand my point. I'm saying you have access to the same cards Legend players use. There are no 'special OP cards' reserved for legend players, this is not Yugioh (anime). Anyone can craft a Tier 1 deck. It's how you use the cards, how you play.
You can craft any Legend viable deck and get it to legend. If you are saying you don't even have access to at least one complete Tier 1 deck, then quit dreaming for Legend. I reached legend while I was still F2P so maybe you should ask advise from me to get good, Angry Chicken boy.
How about you learn how to properly express your point before you claim I didn't understand it. Your point sucks, since you don't know how I play, or what cards I own. This game thrives around strong interactions, and only the strongest decks can compete. To have constant access to this competition, you need to have a large card collection. Just because a deck was tier 1 doesn't guarantee it will still be in a couple of weeks. It also seems that you didn't understand my point. I'm not complaining about people who have more cards than me. In case you forgot how to read, I was complaining about the MMR, which I think is not good since I'm going against such "skilled" players such as yourself. But you know what bother me more? Assholes like you who think they're better than everyone just cause they reached legend once or twice. People like you will always bitch about how "bad players" are whining about losing, and about how good they where since they reached legend as F2P. Get off your high horse man, its just a game. Oh, and you don't like my title? Sorry I haven't spent more time trying to earn more prestigious ones like "raid leader".
Lol at the raid leader remark, I was just making fun at how apt your forum title was and you just reacted like a child throwing a tantrum.
You said it yourself, you want to reach legend but don't want to get matched with skilled players. You are a walking, talking paradox dude. How entitled.
I guess I'll have to accept hearthpwn is an echo chamber for losers.
I know it's a game. When did I say it's not? You watch too much fortnite Ninja boy. Don't bait me, I won't bite.

Looks like the MMR is more accurately showing your level of skill. The old way was fooling you into thinking you were better than you were. Accept your new normal as an average player. Many are there with you and you in good company.

Don't blame metrics!
that would be fine if we did not have to play game after game with people in legend to get past rank 10. Your hidden MMR may be an indication of skill, but your rank certainly isn't.

Yup, just before the new expansion dropped, I played against Dog (and won! though he had really bad draws xD) at rank 4. I guess I don't need to bring up the difference between my and Dog's skills...

So basically you're saying that you want to have garbage cards, and be low skill, but still be given Legend rank anyway?
M8 I'm a hard liberal and that's too much participation trophy even for me
This thread in a nutshell: whiners who can't understand that rank doesn't win the game but the player. If you get matched with legend players it means you should be able to hit legend yourself according to MMR.

lol, i reached legend second day of expansion, try again.
I guess telling the truth about the matchmaker triggers your pretty hard....better go find that safe space where everything blizzard does is sunshine and roses.
I hit plat 5 last night but to even get to plat 5 I was on a win streak and I saw he was legend I beat him and hit plat 5.
This morning I played another game, won again, against another legend, so is this gonna be a trend :/ cause I rather play against other plats while I am still in plat....

No, that's such nonsense. By definition not everybody can reach legend. 50% winrate doesn't mean all you need 50%. It's 50 percent against ever better players. And guess what, at some point those better players become better than you, you loose MMR and drop back down. Until you reach your level again.
People keep mentioning all you need is 50% and it's such a bullshit. First, you need 50% + 15 winds. So if you are just barely above 50% winrate, its gonna take forever. Second, the skill (if HS has such a thing, and not just RNG fest) for let's say mid of the plat as apposed to diamond 3 is uncomparable. If you have only 50% at platinum, you will not make it in 50% diamond situations. You will be diamond player playing against people dozens of ranks lower, just like trash tier legends play against diamond 5 now... And and you get past those plat players, you are will again gets smashed by real diamond players.
This whole system of hidden mmr is a gotcha mechanic. I don't like progression systems, but it seems vast majority of players play a lot longer if you pin a shiny rank avatar on them...
This was brutal when it was first changed and it’s brutal now. It’s paradoxically rewarding poor players playing net decks (hence the ton of new legend players this season) while punishing long term players who have hit legend ONCE. This is the hardest, most frustrating slough I’ve ever experienced.

That God of War reference was the only smart thing you said in this thread. Props to that.
I guess I'm a loser. I lost a lot of time trying to explain something to someone who can't comprehend. So long, grown Ass-Man.
