That can be the other way around.. That diamond player is lowering his MMR in purpose, and eventually when he uses his real deck, his MMR is still low, so probably he met this guy in his first 10 serious matches.
And probably not only one guy doing this thing. It can considered 'farming the noobs'.. And you can do this (lowering your MMR), everytime you hit the floor rank without anything to lose.

If this is true, its unhealthy for the ladder and blizz supposed to do something about this new behavior..
I came here to confirm what others have already said and dispute the OPs claims. The new ranking system is considerably easier to climb with, the main reason being more "safe" levels that lock in your progress. This is especially true at lower ranks , where progress multiplier allows you to breeze through 5+ levels at once.
Prior to this patch, I would climb to rank 10 and call it a day (mainly because I got tired of the grind it took to get to rank 5 - which I've done a few months in a row and got fed up with because it was tedious). I never got to Legend, my highest rank was 4 I think. With the new ranking system, I got to Diamond 5 in just 2 nights of playing. I believe that's equivalent of old rank 3 or so. I've never been able to climb so fast before. The point is that the new system is a lot more rewarding of wins and forgiving of losses. If you can't climb with it, it's because you suck. The sooner you admit it and stop making excuses, the sooner you'll improve at this game.
I don't think I ever said that I didn't suck. in fact, my whole argument is that the ranking system should pit me agaisn't other people that suck, not players from diamond-legend leagues.
I am not making any excuses, I wanna suck and play with people that suck, which the new ranked system doesn't allow unless I specifically threw dozens of games so I can finally have a good time.
And I'm being rewarded by slowly climbing the ladder this way. Funny what this new system encourages huh? lower MMR on purpose then climb with easier games.
What makes you think you were playing diamond-legend players? This season may be bringing back some players who haven't taken ranked very seriously so in the beginning you may well get some players around your level that are better than you are but that should resolve itself. It doesn't encourage that at all, people do the same in FIFA, they graduate out of divisions 10-6 ish because that's where the poor pool of players are, they then hit an average level and find it too hard so tank their level back down to division 9 or so. That's not the system encouraging it, it's a player base that can't handle any sort of competitive gameplay and effectively wants to sit in the corner with crayons and not have to colour between the lines.
If that's how you prefer to play that's fine but it's you and your inability and/or refusal to get better, not how the system is designed.
Seen your sort of players complaints in every PvP game I've played. Crying about people using popular builds or loadouts or formations and it being no fun blah blah blah, it isn't that. There's just a section of gamers who play PvP style modes but don't have the patience, ability or mentality to actually bother competing. So they blame something else, in HS it's net decks, in FIFA it's meta formations and customer tactics, in cod it's cheese weapons, in other games its 'cookie cutter' loadouts. At some point you need to accept the fact that you're the problem, not the game or system.
If it's matching you with diamond-legend players, it means you don't suck, you are actually pretty good.
Not necessary. As I wrote in this thread the MMR could be raised due to a luck streak and a bad player could suddenly be considered legend-capable.
The whole problem creating this is that they don't count your average MMR during the last Season, they count the peak MMR. And they do this so the system is not abused by people doing the following: Staying at say level 25, going to 21 with 100% ratio, then auto-conceding back 25 and doing the same over and over again. Such people would have low average MMR, but very high peak MMR.
Now on the other side the problem with the peak MMR is that it hits people like OP that got a very lucky streak. So, they have to tune their MMR algorithm to be a mix from both the average and the peak MMR.
And you can do this (lowering your MMR), everytime you hit the floor rank without anything to lose.
Yes, you can lower your MMR to some extend in the current system - say for facing the lower bottom of your MMR group. How big is each MMR group and how many MMR groups are there (are they 11 like the bonus pools for example or 2-3 to guarantee fast matchmaking) we don't know. I would speculate and say these are shifting from 10 at the beginning to 2 at the end of the Season. At least that's the most logical way for this to be done.
And this problem (lowering your MMR on purpose) would exist as long as there are "safe floors" in the MMR-matching ladder (D5-).
As I wrote the problems with this ladder system are many and they should consider switching to full MMR-system with decays.
I think one of the main problems is the assumption that everybody plays ranked for the sole purpose of laddering. And though this might be a little provocative I'd like to propose that there are a lot of people playing the game to actually have fun.
And if you think that "casual" would be the right place for that, I have to contradict. I definetely want to be matched up with good players and strong decks to see if my ideas are viable enough to compete. And I feel really bad if I face a non-golden player in casual who plays Chillwind Yeti on turn 4. I don't want to keep other occasional players from getting their rewards. And I'm okay with losing against Tier 1 decks.
Not necessarily being matched up with people of the same rank but rather based on that "MMR" seems to work pretty well so far. I usually face experienced players with a sufficient amount of meme-decks. It's of course been too short of a time to tell for sure. But I wouldn't condemn the system after just a few days. I actually appreciate the Blizz guys trying something new. Because let's face it: The old system was far from perfect. So I'd recommend to wait a few month to see how the new ranking systems settles in.

One of the funniest things I've read in a long time! +1
More and more players are going to adopt the fast decks combined with concede gameplay (which is the most adequate way for people valuing their time) which in turn may lead to whole groups of players adopting the "co-op" mechanic when with the bonus pool (first to play instantly concedes). The "co-op" mechanic would be the fastest way to progress through the bonus stage if adopted by all players. It would literally mean that all players with a 9+ star bonus would be Diamond 5 only after an hour from the start of each Season. And this in turn would lead to a lot more non-D5 players aiming for D5 to achieve a 9 star bonus and join the "co-oping", which eventually would snowball and lead to everyone becoming D5.
The above of course would happen if the players realize the "co-op" potential. It would be a very interesting year for sure. I am extremely eager to find out how this social experiment goes.
Most of the people still don't understand the MMR matchmaking now.
You no longer face players of your rank, but of your MMR. It does not matter if you are bronze or Diamond.
Yet I still don't believe he met a diamon player when he complains stuff like '6 legendaries QQ' etc. His whines are where he belongs and he probably met other bronze players.

God will you shut up about this. Talking about it isn’t going to make it catch on

blizzard has stated in the past you can’t tank your MMR like this. You have a threshold.
I expect a lot of people to change their play style when they know how the system works.
You’re not talking about a play style, you’re talking about just conceding and messing with your MMR. Blizzard gives you a threshold, you can’t tank your MMR and face easier opponents. And let’s be real, reading a lot of your posts, you’re just trying really hard to sound smart and observant but you’re missing the forest through the trees and you can’t even see the flaws in your own logic.

Because I add people after the match to check their league? That part of my argument is actually a fact.
Honestly, this mob mentality of just wanting to belittle others is getting old. At least read things properly.
Just to add the the previous reply, here's some of the players I added to check it, the diamonds were from when I made this post, the gold was after experimenting losing MMR on purpose, and nowadays I only mostly only face Silver thankfully.
You can lose MMR on safe floors in order to face the bottom of your group after that.
Let's say the legend group is 10k people and your MMR is in the middle thus you are facing players from that middle range when you que. When you lose on purpose and your MMR falls to the bottom you would be facing the legend players from the bottom. Yes, they are still legend players, not noobs (although the system allows for lucky noobs with streaks to be considered legend players based on MMR), but there is a difference between facing the bottom from the legend pool and the top from it. You are more likely to win vs the bottom.
People changing their play style would be people beginning to "co-op" while on the bonus pool and concede when first in order everyone to reach the non-bonus pool phase quick.
"And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it."

You still can’t go below a certain threshold, you’re not getting that. And you’re proving my point with that little quote there
I honestly don't know what's with the arguments going on right now. all I know is that I was facing diamond players, decided to lose a bunch of games, and now I'm facing silvers. That's what I recommend to others facing similar frustrations, and that's my experience.
Good day to everyone else.

If you're playing Ranked for fun or intrigue then you're already doing Hearthstone wrong.

deliberately tanking your MMR is dumb - you'll get fewer bonus stars next month
That's not needed for raising your win rate. You miss that.
