I'm on bronze league yet all I am fighting are players with tier 1 decks that play like robots. No fun decks at all, no funny mistakes, endless amount of galakrond Rogues and highlander mages with 6+ legendaries.
If this new system was supposed to make it more fair, I honestly don't see it, my experience has been the absolute worse. I had way more fun back in rank 5 matches than this lower league bullshit.
Low ranks have always been full of meta decks, where have you been?
Give it a couple of weeks, once players hit their 'goal' ranks there should be more fun/meme decks out there
But by that point it's pretty much going to be just legend players in the MMR pool with a few people who don't play much or get walled by netdecks, as they've described the system. TBF that might well increase the number of fun decks, but still, crazy.
First things first, this will happen every month. Everyone gets set back to bronze and matchmaking will take a bit to really refine as everyone's MMR is composed based on games played.
So far, I've spoken with a few players who have done some testing and here's how the matchmaking seems to work (unofficially, of course):
Based on your skill, efficiency, deck composition, and rank, you'll get matched with people who best line up with you.
For example, you'll face a player who makes a lot of mistakes if you make a lot of mistakes, too. You'll face a lot more meta decks if you run meta decks, too. Running off-meta? Your opponent is likely to be doing the same. Win streak? Your opponent probably has one going, too.
Don't let the initial newness/weirdness of ladder turn you off from it. Get a feel for how it works and how you can best approach it.
Best of luck!
That 100% doesnt happen.
The matchmaking is not that advanced. No matter what you run, your ladder experience is going to mostly be Face or Dragon Hunter, since its its fastest deck to climb with, and undisputedly one of the most populous because of its dominance over Galakrond Rogue and Big Druid.
The game doesn't care what deck you or your opponent is playing. Just because you might be playing a meme deck at a low mmr/rank doesn't mean your opponents are required to as well.
I doubt the game knows the difference between skill and luck either. A fairly new player coasting to high rank with a face deck even though they misplayed almost every single turn, would likely be in the same boat now with players playing flawlessly that got unlucky a bunch and ended at the same rank.
I doubt the game knows the difference between skill and luck either.
It doesn't. OP's case is mentioned a lot on the forums which means a winning streak due to luck results in high MMR in the same way a skilled play does.
All I can speak about is my experience. I am a FTP player, and I play mostly standard but also some wild. Last season in the last couple days I made it to rank 5 in standard playing mech shaman, and ended up at rank 12 wild playing experimental decks. I was got a 9 star bonus for standard and 6 for wild.
I'm bored of standard and am waiting for launch to start my climb. This meant that I've only tried the new ranked system in wild, where my MMR is/should be pretty low.
After some initial experimentation and frustration that I wasn't winstreaking through bronze like I had hoped, I did the only reasonable thing: I started playing aggro.
Odd hunter is my FTP aggro deck of choice, and is absolutely sufficient for stomping noobs. I went something like 6 and 0 and winstreaked into gold, then took a break from the game.
My recommendation for all those who are struggling? Play some consistent aggro deck, and you'll rise through the lower ranks in no time.

Honestly this is what I did. I’ve been running a home brew dragon hunter deck I’ve had sitting around since DoD dropped. Not sure how it stacks up vs the meta lists but I’ve put maybe 3 hours into the new system and I’m Platinum 8. My star bonus disappears at Platinum 5 but then I’ll stop facing legend players and I can switch back to something I’m more comfortable with. I can’t find any real fault with the new system. The way they have it set up works great for both new and old players. It’s easier to get back where you belong on the ladder and it’s easier to elevate that position as time goes by
I came here to confirm what others have already said and dispute the OPs claims. The new ranking system is considerably easier to climb with, the main reason being more "safe" levels that lock in your progress. This is especially true at lower ranks , where progress multiplier allows you to breeze through 5+ levels at once.
Prior to this patch, I would climb to rank 10 and call it a day (mainly because I got tired of the grind it took to get to rank 5 - which I've done a few months in a row and got fed up with because it was tedious). I never got to Legend, my highest rank was 4 I think. With the new ranking system, I got to Diamond 5 in just 2 nights of playing. I believe that's equivalent of old rank 3 or so. I've never been able to climb so fast before. The point is that the new system is a lot more rewarding of wins and forgiving of losses. If you can't climb with it, it's because you suck. The sooner you admit it and stop making excuses, the sooner you'll improve at this game.
New system isnt bad.. went from bronze 10 to plat 8 with like 3 losses. I dont know who I am playing against bc I dont see their rank for some reason when we start the game..
Why arent I receiving the correct rewards? Just went from Bronze 10 to Gold 5 with 2 losses.. problem is for Gokd 5 reward I received 1 pack whereas I thought it was 2 packs and 4 rares?
He just trolling and obviously dont know how the new rank system works. Probably never read anything in his life. Do your homework first kid!! All these millennials want instant gratification, They want high results without effort and when that doesn't work they start complaining when it doesn't go their way. Good luck in Life! I will link the source, but doubt he will read it!

I don't think I ever said that I didn't suck. in fact, my whole argument is that the ranking system should pit me agaisn't other people that suck, not players from diamond-legend leagues.
I am not making any excuses, I wanna suck and play with people that suck, which the new ranked system doesn't allow unless I specifically threw dozens of games so I can finally have a good time.
And I'm being rewarded by slowly climbing the ladder this way. Funny what this new system encourages huh? lower MMR on purpose then climb with easier games.
It is now MUCH harder to get to Diamond 5 than it was to get to Rank 5 in the old system.
then why did it take me only 3 days (about 5 hrs each session) to get there ? I'am a pretty mediocre player by all means lol (NEVER made to legendary in the old one, only rank 1)
Will probably get to Legendary this month tho, since 15 wins in a row from Diamond 5 seems do-able, but I'am by no means in a rush. Just saying its WAY easier now. Any serious Grinder who lives inside Hearthstone should have a blast.
Also I'am predicting around 20k - 25k Legendary ranked players at the end of this month, more than twice as many as in the old system, so its not gonna be anything special anymore.
if i'm missing cards i can craft wtf i need to make any obscure deck available in the catalogue so it's not a problem of u don't have those cards
the problem is this my ELO MMR is so low i'm actually getting x2 for BRONZE LEAGUE.....
and once i hit silver i'm ........ 1 star with NO STAR BONUS have u ever tried how hard that is I STILL HAVE GOLD AND PLATINUM
it feels so EVEN LONG AND TEDIOUS climb and i've done a few games now i'm at silver 3 but when i'm getting 1 star per victory it's like whoa bro wtf this needs a serious fix cuz i'm like wtf LUL at this rate i need 96 to get to legend +96 stars ROFL WTF! GAME!?

Stick to arena bro. Clearly ladder isn’t ur thing.
My dude, just wait til Ashes of Outlands comes out, that will for sure mess with the ladder way more than putting different colors on it and calling it a "rework".
All I know is I'm playing an oddball dragon warlock deck with a grand total of 1 legendary (gul'dan) and after "reaching" rank 20 in March I've been facing in order: all golden mecha'thun warlock, all golden cubelock, galakrond bomb warrior and quest mage. If this is the best the matchmaking can do, it's garbage, there's no two ways about it (especially since every single one of my opponents had 1000 wins on their class).
The matchmaking could care less what cards you own, it's about how much you win vs how much you lose. Some folks with awesome collections don't win all that much, and some folks with starter collections can win a lot. Basically, whoever you play against, they are playing hearthstone with about the same amount of success you are.
So, if your opponent has a deck full of golden legendaries, and you have one legendary card, congratulate yourself on overcoming a weaker collection with much greater skill.

The irony is this. If it's matching you with diamond-legend players, it means you don't suck, you are actually pretty good.

The rewards listed are cumulative. AKA the thing it lists for the Gold 5 instant reward includes everything you got before that.

Yes, HS players are to become more friendly in that regard with each new Season.
