 Rank basically defines how much you played. You are pit up against people with similar skill as you.

You don't sit in bronze rank and get matched against a player of your level within that rank. This is pretty absurd. If that were the case you would only play people within any rank who are as skilled as you are and this would make the ranks meaningless. This means it would in effect be harder for a good player to move out of any rank than say a player who just started playing. The game also matches up the decks regardless of skill. SO if you use a tier-one meta deck you will be matched up against a similar deck.

Don't believe me? Make a deck out of random bullshit cards with no particular synergies or theme and see what deck you get matched against..This deck you matched against will be some jank-ass deck just like the one you made. When new players just make a tier-one deck and jump in they are going to get matched against similar decks. If you can't play the deck and mulligan right and get the cards you are probably going to lose more than you win. I highly doubt you are playing some jank-ass meme deck and getting matched against all tier-one meta decks..it just doesn't happen that way buddy.

As a low rank jank player, I have to recant my previous comment (about it being seemingly fine right now). With reset MMRs (apparently) it's a bit of a crap shoot who you'll play early on. Just ran my OTK Dispatch Kodo deck into a Raza machine gun priest, followed by a treant/token druid. Thank goodness my next match was against a much more budget token druid - these jank decks don't often win against real ones!

Hopefully once people have established MMRs things will smooth out, but it could be painful for some players until then.

So i reinstalled on saturday after 3 months of absence. I reached plat 9 in less than 4 hours of total game time. I can't say i dislike the new system. I guess it makes legend a walk in park but legend was pointless anyway.

As for the ladder climb, it's always going to have bad stretches of getting stuck at a particular rank for awhile no matter how they set it up, same stuff happened in the old system. I've been legend multiple  times, but would be stuck at Rank 7 for hours. Combination of bad luck, bad matches, bad meta, etc. I'd come back later and winstreak to 5 out of nowhere. 

 

Which is where the system has serious flaws.  Like I said, I made legend on a flukey 5 game win streak at Rank 1 on one occasion, and I wasn't high legend or anything (800's).  This was over a year ago.  If historical ranks affect your current MMR than I think I have an inflated or artificially high MMR which is making the grind tougher and more challenging than ever.  Anyways...just gotta wait for the new expansion to drop tomorrow and focus on something else for a it.

MMR is something Riot wants to you believe it exists. The whole MMR thing is a massive BS. They have one algorithm, and they are using it as an instrument to force you to play more games. They don't give a shyt about the concept of "A BALANCE GAME" nor climbing.

The only reason to hide MMR points from players is they can spot something wrong is with the system. "Hidden MMR" and listen to Blizzard fairy tales how it works. Funny as entire Small Indie Company which produced a great game which is not great now but I still like it :D

This MMR is awful, the game feels substantially and qualitatively wrong at this point. Can’t quite put my finger on it but this has been far worse than the DH shitshow. When this game is over and done with you can point to this manipulative and disingenuous MMR as the reason. Very cynical and disgusting approach to Blizzard’s loyal customers. 

I agree, this MMR is horrible. I mostly play homebrews with fun concepts which are pretty much useless againts tier 1 decks. But since i was diamond 1 last season, i get matched up against them almost exclusively. I lose mich more than i win and it makes the game pretty much unplayable for me right now. I do my quests with a friend and thats it. sometimes i play a few matches again in ranked to see if i get lucky maybe but no. Still the same. Im platinum 10 and cant get any further even though i still have my multiplicator. I lose 3-4 matches and win one so i actually stay at the same rank even with the extra stars.

What you are saying(and many others in this thread indeed) can be resume by this paradox "I want to win games but I don't want to climb in the players hierarchy".

Sorry, but it's impossible in a ladder system :(

Want to win with a howbrew deck versus suboptimal deck ? Go casual !

It's fine while you still have some multipler left, but after it's gone, if you still want to climb, you're pretty much left with two choices: join the bunch and switch to some top meta deck or be ready to have a really hard time trying to get anywhere.

Neither surprised, nor displeased. And my decks are not bad, thank you very much.
