This may be a stupid question, but playing the new ranking system I realized that the opponent's rank isn't shown. Is this a bug or a feature? Maybe I just misunderstood how the matching works. But I thought you'd get paired with someone of your rank?
Couldn't really find any details on that in the explanations...
I think that is because the opponent doesn't have to be your rank to match with you, so they removed it.
Yes, that's what I figured. But that's not how I understood the way it should work. All this talk about "Two different Pools" and taking the "Star Bonus" into account for the matching process - I thought that would all be ADDITIONAL to your opponent also being your rank (or at least in the same part of the league).
The matching is according to mmr (don't know exactly how this works, but pretty much based on your previous month rank, current star bonus etc). The opponent does not have to be anywhere close to your rank. For example, if you reached rank 1 or legend in March and stop playing for the first few days of April, your opponents will be mostly diamond while you are still bronze.
It doesn't show rank cause you get matched with MMR which means that if you started playing today and finished at high legend last month you'll probably get ranked with plats, diamonds and even legends players as your MMR is too high for anything below.
Also if you use for example Firestone app you can sneak-peak which rank player you have played with (in old system ranks), and let me tell you - ranks are all over the place.
they could just show mmr points instead but i guess they don't want players to feel bad or whatever. like the same with they don't show your losses either, just wins. at end of the day it doesn't really matter at all if it shows or not. i actually kinda prefer it this way. just focus on the game instead and stuff like that
As I understand it from the info blizzard provided there are 2 pools we are match in, 1 is MMR base and is primarely used when you have a star bonus. the 2nd is rank based and should be the one we are playing by after we have spent our bonus stars.
When playing with a Star Bonus you’ll be matched by your matchmaking rating (MMR) Source, at star bonus
Q: How does matchmaking work for each season?
A: There are two matchmaking pools: matchmaking by rating (aka. MMR) and by rank.
When your star bonus multiplier is bigger than 1, or you are in Legend rank, you are (generally) in the first matchmaking pool; when your star bonus drops to 1, you are in the second pool. Source
But I think that once you are out of the MMR pool you should be allowed to see the rank of your opponent

now showing on standard either.

No only does the rank not show up, but often the name doesn't show up either.

Anyone able to clarify that? Thanks!

Does it show once both have spent their bonus stars?

No, but the opponent's rank is visible after you reach legend and match with someone non-legend.
I wish the rank was still visible. I don't care who i'm matched with i just want to see it lol.
