I'm not sure how I feel about the new rank system, but the new rewards system is much worse. No more golden rewards, and the replacements are less dust equivalent.

But ... you get packs, so better for people that want to complete their collection. And you'll always have a chance to get a missing legendary or golden epic when you get packs. 500 Dust at end of month wasn't too exciting tbh, I'll take 5 packs over that.
I basically haven’t played much the last couple months but yesterday I win streaked from like R20 to R17 (so impressive right) and I log in today and find that I have a star bonus of freaking 8 lol. That’s equivalent to what, getting gold rank on reset? Nice
I also think it's sweet. Then you find a 4 page thread full of conspiracy theories and incessant whining about it. It's insane lol
The one guy is trying way to hard to make up issues with it
Regardless of how people feel about it, this is an issue. You should only be able to get an 8 star bonus having finished last season at a minimum of rank 8 3 stars. The fact you somehow got it all the way down at rank 17 is proof that the bonus algorithm isn't working properly or as advertised at all and kind of invalidates the effort people put in to achieve that bonus reasonably thinking that being higher rank was the only way to get it. Frankly I can see why people wouldn't be happy about this; you basically reaped the rewards of achieving rank 8 when you only got rank 17.
I tend to disagree.
Been playing since Naxx, with varying levels of engagement over time. Probably for the first half or more of 2019, I was a Rank 5-3 player. Never bothered with the Legend grind. But then I stopped playing Constructed much for a few months, all the way down to the bottom, pretty much. The past few sets weren't that exciting to me, but there are were some rank-based reasons I didn't get back in.
First, it's not really fair to take "Dad-Legend" decks against folks at Rank 20. There used to be a lot of threads about low-rank folks who get stuck playing against Tier-1 stuff and have a lousy game experience. On top of that, it felt kinda bad both to have a long grind back to a rank which more accurately relates to what my rank is, if I maintain some average playing time.
So along comes this, and I start things off at 8 or 9 stars. That's going to get someone like me out of the basement pretty quick, and hopefully newer players will be less likely to face lazy-but-experienced folks like me. When there's a change in ranking systems, you want a system that gets proven folks out of the dumps quickly. That's to everyone's benefit, since bad matchmaking lead to bad times all around.
That said... we won't really know too much about how well the new ranking system works until next month. That's when the real test will be, when we're rolling over within this system.

There's a separate issues that this game doesn't really reward long-term grind well enough. The 10g per 3 wins is a pretty meager benefit compared to what you get from the first few games in questing. That should be higher. End of season rewards should feel like a nice perk, rather than the big payoff.
But the way to fix it isn't to leave skilled players in dumpster ranks. That's how you get long-time players to quit.

This. The thing that always makes me go inactive is putting in a lot of time and not really getting anywhere, especially if I have other games going, hearthstone ends up on the back burner and I end up in gutter ranks again
