There's really no reason whatsoever that the expansion should come out on April 7th. the hype is already here and we only get to watch the streamers play with the cards early and theorycraft ahead of everyone else. by the time the expansion launches there will be clips all over the internet of all the new combos and interactions before the bulk of players even get to try them. with so many changes made in the current patch why not just release it this week or next? maybe they were worried too many changes at one time would lead to bugs or game crashes to they want to separate them who knows? I'm not even tired of the current meta so it's not like the wait is unbearable or anything but with the current state of affairs in the world and everyone staying home RIGHT NOW it would seem like a smart business move to let players act on the current hype instead making them wait. Also usually after each card dump reveal the expansion comes out within the next 3-4 days. Not a huge deal just doesn't make a lot of sense.
This is how it has work for that last few expansions. There used to be a grace period of about a week when an expansion was out and people just played random shit. Now the meta has settled before the cards are even available to the public. All for the sake of influencers.
You have to be kidding... Changing the release date will cost a lot of money to Blizzard, dude, especially from the marketing campaigns and the potential pre-orders.
Seriously, why is this even a question? Even just having to announce the new release date everywhere will cost them a huge amount of money, not everyone constantly visits the forums like us.

personally i haven't seen one advertisement for the new expansion except for this site but i'm sure they're out there. speaking of things that are going to cost them money that they've done anyways is change a ranking system that has players skeptical and possibly turning away from the game and a duplicate prevention mechanic within the card collection that will inherently cause less packs to be purchased in the future. So in my defense i think it's a perfectly valid question.

You're sure they're out there? Wow... And do you really think it's a perfectly valid question just because you believe their new ranking system is going to make them lose money? What does one thing has to do with the other? Team 5 obviously doesn't believe the same, neither cares about what you think (breaking news: you're not the center of the world ;)). Blizzard is not going to release the expansion earlier just because you think their new ranking system is going to turn away people from the game. That's not how things work... Actually that doesn't make any sense.

Have you ever heard about schedules? Literally every videogame works this way, they set a release date and try to meet this date, if they can't they'll just delay it, but never release earlier than stated. If a videogame is set to release, let's say today, then the game has probably been done since like November-December, but there are a lot of details they have to check, making a game (or an expansion for one) is not simply making the game itself. Blizzard has stated multiple times that they work 3 expansions in advance, which means that AoO has been ready since around the release time of Rise of Shadows, so according to your thought process... Why wait? why don't we get the entire year released right now, why kill all the hype? Well cause it doesn't make sense and the schedule has been set already.
Also as someone else said, if they have more time then more people will purchease the pre-order which means more money for Blizzard.

Blizzard is a cash cow that doesn't care about the state of the world they just care about emptying your wallet.
and here come the trolls
It's hard to say what's happening behind the scenes. The patch is out, but they might be doing some fine doing, fixing bugs that came with the patch etc. so they the expansion might not be ready to launch.
I know what they are doing, swimming in our tears and our money.
I'm pretty sure I called you out on your psychiatric state last time we crossed messages (I believe I suggested yoga), but if this is how you feel about Blizzard, why would you keep playing and giving them your money? I spend my money in the game, because I enjoy the game, and I don't mind spending money on things I enjoy. In the end it works out to pennies per hour, and considering I make a comfortable living, I have no reason not to indulge in things I enjoy.
If the game is causing you this type of distress, and you keep spending these "money and tears", it's time to re-evaluate your life, financially, and emotionally. They aren't holding you hostage, unfortunately it's more a combination of people with social disorders, reality dysmorphia, and addictive personalities.
Blizzard works on supply and demand. Their profits are maximized if they offer an enjoyable service to the maximum people who can, and will afford it. They have no responsibility towards anyone who can't afford it, nor should they. The game can be f2p. They actually offer an unprecedented amount of content to people for no money. If people find it's not enough for them, they can start a kickstarter fund, about how undervalued and entitled they are, and include an essay about what they feel they deserve. Perhaps the public will feel for them and help fund the level of gameplay they're entitled to.

Google search: Is Hearthstone free to play?
Just the way it is unfortunately. Longer preorder window maybe
They are waiting for more people to buy the pre order I think

i'd prefer not, want to farm more gold before the expansion hits to open more packs.

I think they want more people to buy preorder. Releasing the update earlier would be a bad move from Blizzard.
Also Blizzard might be trying to release everything slowely so there will be less bugs.
Subject already covered in this thread
This would be totally counterproductive for Blizzard. Time is playing in their favor...
