If you were legend last month, then you would get 11 stars per win and -1 star per loss. So with a 50% win rate you would ascend the ladder rather quickly. Your first win would move you up to bronze 7 (with 2 stars); then you lose and go to bronze 7 (1 star) then you win and go to bronze 4 (3 stars); then you lose and go bronze 4 (2 stars); and so on. New players wouldn't get the star bonus in the first month so they would have quite a grind, but returning players should get back to their previous ranks pretty easily. Not sure what your complaint is all about.
As another example it would take 66 games for a R5 player from last month to reach the equivalent Diamond-10 - which is a crap tonne faster than the previous system. Still not as fast as everyone (theoretically) going on a concede-fest
Same W/L in old system would've gotten the player from R10 to mid R8!
This is not logical when they give so big streak bonus and players reach rank 5 fast.
I'm literally just saying what Blizzard said themselves. They wanted to match people with similar MMR but still give a sense of progression. It's working for me 🤷🏻♀️
It works for most people. Just get to legend quicker if you dislike normal ranks so much.
I don't get what you're saying? I don't dislike anything. People were discussing why Blizzard had chosen to have everyone go back to bronze 10 every month when everything is MMR based anyway (so you're essentially playing against the same players no matter your rank), and I repeated Blizzard's own argument: that they still wanted to give the players a sense of progression. And I think they've achieved that. That's what I meant by 'working'.
I suspect they aimed a system that would be most FUN for the noobs, but in that case why not make it quest-like.
For example, each day you draw 1 side quest from a pool of ladder quests and you can maximize on it during that day - be it a streak bonus, or no stars lose bonus with reno decks, or triple win bonus for games over 30 minutes... Something different each day so that it makes the noobs log-in, see the quest and climb with different deck depending on the quest. Such system then is logical and could be extended to 100 ranks for the noobs to grind each month and have fun.
But for the players in legend wanting to compete and measure their MMR/ranking the system now is useless until the legend rank itself and the bottlenecks are NOT solved. Something the new system should have done.

Well this just pretty much proves the OPs point that the ranked system is redundant - as stated by Blizzard. "Sense" of progression. They came to the conclusion that an MMR based ranking system would not be visually enticing to encourage people to play more, so they hid it behind a pointless ladder system with pretty colours and numbers people can count on their fingers. Way to cater to the masses to maximise your cash flow Blizzard! :D

I know. I agree with you. I'm saying the people that are whining about it because of ranks can just get to legend quicker and it's a complete non-issue.
I’m still trying to figure out the logic of this auto concede nonsense. Somehow I have a star bonus of 8. I’m currently on a win streak if it caries from last season then my wins will give me 16 stars. Why the hell would I auto concede for that? Why would anyone auto concede instead of try for a win streak
Apparently Blizzard already said in a reddit post you can’t abuse your MMR this way. At least according to someone on the other thread about this nonsense
I've played 4 games and I'm at silver 9 with Highlander Mage... I just got a classic pack and 4 rare cards... So far, I'm enjoying the new system.
I'm sorry to everyone that isn't happy. Hopefully you find important things that bring a higher level of importance to your lives, so you don't have to find conspiracy in mundane online card GAMES.
It's always upsetting to see how negatively games can impact people's lives, but also pretty reassuring. If a change in the rewards system of an online game is impacting your life in such a negative manner that you need to hover around a message board in protest, it's sad you don't have better things going on, but great that you don't have more negative things going on.
In theory I can understand what OP is trying to tell, but reality is not working like that.
First of all, if the player with a coin concedes - good for me. But if I had the coin why shoul I concede in this scenario? I have the chance of another win. Don't forget about the winstreak bonus. Doing it because of MMR and getting matched with weaker opponent makes again sense in theory, but not in reality. From my experience I am still playing against the same meta decks with different mulligans.
MMR is bound to player not deck and for that reason the game cannot force you on a 50/50 winrate.
About the ladder climb. I never reached legendary because of the ladder grind at the end. Since yesterday I am closer then ever. I think the new system made climbing easier/faster by making it less important (outside of legendary) so you can focus now on having similiar skilled opponents even though they all play the same meta decks as stated before. Which imo feels like not having real progression anymore.
We should wait and see at the end of the first season to make a full conclusion of the new system. It is a first run for Blizzard, too and not only the playerbase. You never know, if more changes will be made.

Well, there is nothing wrong about that. In general, the masses are much more smarter than the average hearthpwner or any Blizzard fanboy out of there, who can't even count with their fingers, and no, I'm not kidding about this. I think that's a good business decision and an example to follow. It doesn't matter how loyal is your original playerbase if it is full of annoying and weird people.
Q: If I “tank” my MMR at certain rank floor, will I be matched with easier opponents next season because you are matchmaking by MMR at the start?
A: No, in general you won’t. At the start of the season we will recover your MMR to certain threshold if it is dropped below that value, which is based on what your rank is in the previous season. Therefore, there would be no benefits to intentionally tank your MMR.
Players doing something because it's the fastest way is exactly systemic approach. No one wants to hang at bronze 10 playing long games vs opponents of equal MMR and still being close to 50% winrate when we can "co-op", be 50% winrate and reduce the length of games to 30s.
How the heck are you planning to reliably match up with people willing to do that with you though? You will desync from each other's queues after one or two concedes.
Once your Star multiplier runs out you're matched purely based on your rank.

Yes, absolutely worthless with the bonus.

Somebody call the wahhhmbulance for this guy please. Hes been crying ever since the system was announced lmao
At least he's got something intelligent to say

Doing things that people like? Get the fuck out of here, Blizzard!
Do things people hate!
No, shit the masses can understand. Perfect example. All good, you enjoy the ride on the dumb train.
You're right. Mr. 4-D chess over here. lol

This is from one of the other topics therefore this whole topic is moot
Can you see the rank of your opponent?
Once your Star multiplier runs out you're matched purely based on your rank.
What you quoted has nothing to do with this topic.
No, there is no need for that:
- If matched by MMR (when you have bonus pool before Diamond 5) rank is not important
- If matched by rank (when you are out of bonus) your opponent has same star as you
