I'm not even a regular Priest player, but they kinda screwed up with some of the HoF card that they chose.
Firstly, Auchenai Soulpriest, a card that has never ever been a problem in game's history. Shadow Priest was a well liked and healthy archetype, so much so that they reprinted cards with this effect twice. Such a shame. Not to mention that Circle of Healing is essentially useless now, since Northshire Cleric is also gone.
And Shadowform, one of custom creators' favorite cards, is also gone. While some of the playerbase was awaiting (honestly, that was hopeless, but still) for support, they buried the card instead. It was one of the most interesting cards back in Beta days, it feels bad to see it go away so pointlessly.
Useless and bland cards that never saw play since Beta, such as Lightspawn, Lightwell and cards that had their only their combos HoF'd (Circle of Healing and Inner Fire) are now clogging Priest's basic set.
The cards they buffed and the new cards are all pretty cool, but aside from Prophet Velen and Divine Spirit's unsuprising banishment to the Wild they dropped the ball on every other Priest card they chose for the Hall of Fame.
What are your thoughts on these changes? Agree? Disagree? Perhaps agree to disagree?
I also think Priest was fine, winning condition with ressurect and divine spirit combo was ok. Shadowform also nicely interpreted..but well lets see how the new priest will be
I don't mind them removing Shadow Form (I think the game has more interesting ways to swap your hero power now) or Auchenai Shadow Priest (which is kind of a clunky problem card). I was kind of hoping they'd combine both of their effects into a single more expensive legendary spell.
I HATE that they didn't buff or change Lightspawn or Lightwell. I'm hoping there're more unseen changes. I doubt there is, but those cards are so bad.
The changes look fine, remember this is a class identity change so they're not just needlessly throwing away overused and some underused cards. They are trying to give priest a core set that stacks up with the other classes. The new cards added and the original ones changed give priest a lot more utility as a control (maybe even mid range) class and not having to wait for an expansion that makes them OP or overplayed because they got some crazy new board clear. Anyways that was my thinking on it, also seeing the whole divine spirit and endless card draw cards leave priest will give the priest class a breath of fresh air.
I don't think they want to buff anything in the Classic or Basic sets, and they wanted to make more room for a new archetype, so I think Shadowform is completely valid. That card has never seen play, and will continue to not see play in Wild. Other than sentimentality, no one will miss Shadowform in Standard. I do however disagree with the choice of Auchenai Soulpriest and Northshire Cleric. Those cards were core cards, and effectively causes Circle of Healing, like you said, to be useless unless they release another healing to damage card. Also, while it wasn't great, I don't really see a reason why they HoF'd Holy Fire. They should have at least reduced its mana by 1 and made it similar to Tidal Surge.
I think it's too early to really know if the HoF'ed cards makes sense. They did say one of the reasons was because they didn't plan to further the support for either card in the future. I would have loved Shadowform to be an actual functional archetype, but that would need a card change and certain support for the card.
Circle of Healing and Inner Fire might still have a place in a midrange priest deck, if it gets the right support.
Overall I think a lot of what team5 have showed us so far is looking good, so I think I would wait at least a bit into the first expansion to see whether I think any of the cards was a clear mistake.
Well, you're right to state that they are trying to give Priest more tools to control properly, but some the cards that I mentioned (Lightspawn, Lightwell, Circle of Healing) don't help with anything and in their current state they'll never see play. I agree with you on Divine Spirit and card draw stuff though.

Check out my ambitiously horrific custom expansion, Call of the Ocean!
The "Shadow Priest Dream" will never see the surface of light in Standart, and Blizzard completely exaggerated with their Priest overhaul, should have included couple classic/basic cards from Roque, Sap is broken, Shadowstep is super broken, Prep and Edwin obviously as well.
Priest is supposed to be the control class so Blizz is removing most of their burst(they do keep inner fire) and also their card draw is being removed, but there's still some neutral draw options. Blizz will need to re nerf Raza in wild.
I play only Wild and Arena, so I don't really care about the hall of fame, but I feel like they don't really know what the priest identity is based on the choices they've made to hall of fame. They removed all the shadow priest style cards, which is a core part of priest identity. If I played standard, I would be really annoyed with the choices.
I do like the Holy Smite change, though. It's a much more useful card now; the +1 damage is worth way more than the occasional smite to the face.
And whoever decided to unnerf Raza must be a new employee who didn't see what happened with Raza/Shadowreaper.
The thing is, shadow priest in wow is a huge part of priest identity so this whole "control" only identity they are forcing also brings challenges. I love playing control priest but that's not a win condition. Hopefully they give priest some big tools this year or it's going to stay a low tier class
As a long time Priest player, I couldn't be happier with the changes. Priest finally feels like it's going to be a proper class and not some gimmick that relied on dumb combos. Shadowform is one of my all-time favourite cards, but I'm delighted to see it gone. It never had a place and clogged up Priest with the "Shadow" theme. Same with Auchenai and Velen. It was doomed to fail from the start and shoved Priest in awkward directions.
The new cards place a heavy influence on Healing, Buffing Minions and controlling the board - themes I never thought would be emphasized enough.
Even if Priest isn't as powerful as before, I can't stress enough how much better off Priest as a whole is going to be.
They did that to remove any ability to go face from priest (still wondering what’s wrong with velen and cleric)
Because not a single person in thw world used velen for healing. Cleric was prob hof cause of the new early game priest cards like imagine turn 1 cleric into turn 2 the new minion that gives +2 health. Then give cleric a lil attack buff and its basically impossible to kill the minion

I still have the hope Blizzard will surprise us before the 7th of April, in the last reveal of cards, that they will do changes to Rogue too, and change Sap, Eviscerate and Shadowstep (and maybe Prep) by secrets and change Edwin for some other legendary.

Blizz needs to re nerf Raza, wild is now full of Reno OTK priests, extreme burst is NOT their class identity.

I would have taken the opportunity to retire Priest entirely when introducing Demon Hunter. Yes I hate Rez that much.

Res Priest is dead without Cloning Gallery, that was the biggest Powerturn, and only reason to play cool big cards like Colossus of the Moon, Hakkar, the Soulflayer or Big Bad Archmage

Honestly, they wouldn't even need to change them much.
Replace Lightwell with something like:
Northshire Bishop
5 mana
2/4
Battlecry: summon lightwell.
And make lightwell heal at the end of a turn instead of the beginning. Kind of similar to Waterbearer I guess, but certainly much better.
And Lightspawn is even easier.
Lightspawn
4 mana
2/5
When this minion is undamaged, it gains +3 attack.
Perfectly balanced card, but far more usable than the current version.
They did that to remove any ability to go face from priest (still wondering what’s wrong with velen and cleric)
