I have been playing hearthstone in and out for a while now (around 3 years more or less) and i absolutely adore the game, mostly a wild player myself I am no stranger to spending money on this game; So far I've enjoyed buying bundles and expansion pre-order but I have to step in here and say please don't support this pack.
I don't recall ever shit talking in hearthpwn or anywhere else abt hearthstone and I know i cannot assert my opinions onto others, but this kind of behavior from blizzard has to stop, this is by far the most shameful money grab I have ever seen. I do understand that they are trying something new here but this "something new" could potentially create problems for players in the future for the following reasons:
1) Identifying a market for whales - If overpriced packs start selling well, a divided market would potentially grow where price difference between bundles would be huge; inevitably blizzard would start catering whales and games that get selective this way don't do too well. I believe in a level playing field for everyone. 2) Encourage blizzard to release more overpriced packs - This is pretty obvious, If this pack does well blizzard will start advertising these packs more often --> hence more monetization 3) This is coming at the cost of superior deals - Blizzard putting effort here means its coming at the cost of other amazing deals. So far both the dragonmaster bundle and the pedotree deals were really rewarding and relatively cheap, compare this to that and you can see you are getting scammed. 4) More Monetization - Hearthstone is old, lets face it, in it's prime it had no competition and thus no reason to push itself or make the game cheaper, it was quite literally the only option u had, but things have changed now. The last thing we need is this game getting more expensive and less accessible to aspiring players. This bundle is 2$ a pack compared to normal 1.47$ with quite honestly little to no advantage, the restriction of buying only 5 makes it even worse so that some unfortunate soul who didn't score a legendary is stuck having wasted $10 for nothing. bundles often come at 0.8-1$ a pack which is honestly why they sell well, they are significantly cheaper.
I would like to say that the idea here is actually quite agreeable, however the way its being executed is quite insulting. Obviously every1 is free to do as they wish and you could argue that chances of legendary are rather high, but I would like to take this chance and encourage everyone to stand as a community and not condone such behavior. All this talk about the summit and this is the first thing we get, honestly quite disappointing.
Whales won't buy this type of pack, in my opinion. This is for people who only play certain classes and don't want all the cards. I'm a mini whale, in that I always buy the pre expansion and most special bundles that include a hero or legendary, and I'd never buy this.
the biggest mistake of all is to encourage actiblizz to do further crap like this
the amount of different pack bundles in the last few months is insane, i guess they don't have anything else to show for
(just pre-ordering in general, it's anti-consumer practice to the max - they're selling you stuff that has been cut from the original game on purpose so you can buy it disguised as 'extras' and 'bonuses'... and people still go with it and buy these cons.... and then people who buy it complain that they get ripped off... i wonder why. you encouraged them to do so, that's why)
Everything was fine when Tempo Mage was a thing...it really fit its identity...aggro/mid range decks capable of huge bursts (like Rogue in the past)...now Mage has tier 2 decks at best and they want us to buy these shitty cards? I'll pass..

But people who play nothing but Mage probably own most of the class-specific cards already so they would pay 10$ for five packs full of dust. This bundle is just a huge scam and by far the worst they've ever offered. We can just hope that most players vote with their wallet and do NOT purchase it, especially because these packs will contain cards from Witchwood, Boomsday and Rastakhan which all are gonna rotate soon...
I get that you are upset about the Mage pack bundle, since it is a rather shitty deal, but it should not really surprise you. The development of the last two years has shown that Activision Blizzard rather aggressively wants to make more money with the game.
A quick recap:
For the most time, the pre-order was a one time deal where you could get 50 packs for 50$. With Boomsday Project, Blizzard introduced the 80$ pre-order bundle, but to make it sell better, the 80$ bundle came with a new exclusive hero skin, Mechajaraxxus. Every expansion since offers this deal (Rastakhan, Lazul, Elise, Deathwing), and in DoD, the value of the more expensive bundle was increased further. While the 50$ bundle got you 60 packs instead of 50 (+10), the 80$ bundle gave you 100 instead of 80 (+20). I'd expect that in future expansions, the value of the 80$ bundle is increased even further, or we get a 100$ option with even more stuff.
Bundles, aside from pre-orders, were not really a thing for the most part of Hearthstone's history. The first was the starter bundle, where you could obtain 10 packs + a legendary (first class legendary, then dragon) for 5$. Over the last two years, we have seen several bundles, some coming with hero skins like Hazelbark, Sir Annoy-o or The Thunder King, some were just a collection of different packs, like the Raven Bundle (15$, 5 packs for Witchwood, BDP and Rumble) or the Explorer's Bundle (20$, 5 packs for Witchwood, BDP, Rumble and RoS +1 legendary), and now, with the recent Year of Dragon pack bundle and the Mage pack bundle, we even get entirely new types of packs as bundles. Bundles are now offered almost every other month, always for a limited time, oftentimes with something special.
Solo player adventures were re-introduced with Kobolds&Catacombs, to tell a story with an expansion. They were free throughout the Year of the Raven, then turned into a 20$ adventures (of course with a pre-order option that awards an exclusive card back) with Rise of Shadows, and with DoD turned into an adventure that awards exclusive cards, pushing players more into buying them, and I strongly assume that every future expansion will go this way.
For the most time, the only purchasable hero skins were the three introduced in 2015: Medivh, Alleria and Magni. A bit later, new hero skins could be obtained through special events, like Tyrande or Khadgar, or by completing special quests, like Arthas, Maiev or Lunara. As I already described, hero skins are now usually obtained through bundles or special offerings, with a stronger emphasis on their limited availability. Instead of just adding new hero skins to the store, the older ones were removed (with a special deal to buy them last minute), and are now replaced with new ones (like Sylvanas). Khadgar is the next special offer, and I'd expect more to come.
Without going into detail whether and how this all is good or bad, this is the development over the last few years, and it's clear that Activision Blizzard is trying hard to improve monetization, whether you like it or not. Even if "the community" stands against it and overpriced Class packs turn out as a failed experiment, it probably won't be the last of its kind.
Or, you can just do whatever you want with your own money... It's $10... If $10 is causing so much unrest in your life, you probably shouldn't be spending ANY money on Hearthstone.

How could you miss the point that hard? It's like you didn't read any of the case presented. So take your pseudo high ground someone where else where your argument does apply
So for instance, in DoD you have 2 Mage legendarys out of 10 Mage class cards, that makes 20% of the card pool.
Compared to 23 DoD legendarys out of a 135 card set (all Galakronds excluded obviously) that fill just a slightly less 17.04% of the cardpool, so the likelihood to pull a Mage legendary is not significantly higher than getting a DoD legendary from regular packs.
OP is right, pricing is not justified, that is unless you like playing Mage and got horrible luck with your DoD pack openings.

the one thing is, this is a test and usually any type of pack has its own pity timer
knowing this, if this was a 10 pack bundle, you'd be guaranteed a legendary, and not any legendary, a mage legendary, and given the no duplicate rule, you could almost be sure what will you get
now if this becomes a thing later, and lets say we'll be able to get packs from the latest expansion but class specific, and you really like the flavour of one class and not the others, you could easily get all cards you want by buying way less packs,
so I kind of get why they might be a little more expensive, in the end people that only play certain classes will be able to spend less to get all the cards they want even if the packs themselves will be a little bit more expensive
Having spent more money on HS than I would ever admit to I would probably be classified as a whale. I generally buy all pre-orders and one or two 60 pack bundles per expansion. A few years ago I went a little crazy buying loads of Classic packs because I thought it would be a good idea to craft golden versions of all the good cards. Thankfully set rotation was introduced and put an end to that sillyness.
Anyway, bundles like the Welcome bundle or Dragon bundle were a pretty decent deal ito price per pack so I bought those. I haven't bought the Mage one though, it doesn't seem like a good deal to me. My collection is close to complete, at least with all the playable cards, so I usually buy these kinds of products just for the dust. If there's a good deal on packs I will most likely buy it regardless of the expansion but this one didn't appeal to me.

This
i fully agree, i always buy bundles - but this time Blizzard didn't price it well.
at least they include a mage legendary (or the mage Hero)
5 packs for 10$ ?? stupid deal.

+1 well written.

Looks like 10$ hotdog Kappa
I bought one, because... Why not? And, I can't complain...
It's simple:
If you pay for any bullsh*t what comes out as a "great deal", you will feed Activision's greed!
So, I would recommend ... co not buy it.
Don't let your Memes be dreams!
Or, you can just do whatever you want with your own money... It's $10... If $10 is causing so much unrest in your life, you probably shouldn't be spending ANY money on Hearthstone.
