Hey, only 2 months till rotation, but I always loved highlander hunter. I'm missing both dragonsbane and veranus to complete it. Do you think it's worth the 3.6k dust? Or will hunter become irrelevant next expansion
Highlander Hunter will be alive in some form or another, even after the rotation. The core cards: Brann, Zephrys, and Dragonqueen are all surviving this rotation.
Thing is, you don't necessarily need both Veranus and Dragonsbane to make Highlander Hunter work. I made it from rank 8-5 this month with a traditional (non-dragon) Secret Highlander Hunter, going about 12-2 (after plenty of losing with other decks mind you).
Also, considering that all of the top 3 archetypes right now are Hunter, there's a strong chance some part of the current core package would get nerfed or Hall of Fame'd. So it depends on how closely you need to guard your dust -- the Hall of Fame announcement is only a week or two away most likely.
You might think that when three sets go out and only one comes in, the Highlander decks lose a lot of strength, but Rogue and Hunter are not afraid of any of this.
If you look at the Highlander deck lists, everyone gets hit hard by the rotation except Rogue and Hunter. Only Zilliax and Snip-Snap lose. You can rest assured, it's a safe investment, although with Blizzard you never know, they can nerf out the class and sink like the Shaman.
Highlander Hunter has so many variations, you don't actually need Veranus or Dragonbane.
Some great variations are:
Secret/Spell package with Zul'jin. Dragon + Face with Stormhammer and just a bunch of dragons and direct damage. A fun highlander package with Unseal the Vault and Shu'ma.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I was just wondering if the new expansion will have as much powerlevel as DoD, which will outshine highlander hunter. But I might wait for the HoF or something. I do have secret highlander hunter, but I do want to try the dragon variation
Play the deck without them for now and look at how much do you need them. Wild rotation will also be announced soon (it happened in the end of February last 2 years). And then you’ll see
Veranus is a solid card. Strong body for 6 mana and and has the potential for single target removal and board clear, I'm pretty sure it will see play in all midrange/quest hunter decks for the next year and is worth crafting.
I haven't got Dragonbane to work in highlander, its effect is too random and it usually gets dealt with pretty quickly. You can abuse the mech tag if you manage to stick a Zilliax on it but I wouldn't say it's a necessary craft.
I'd suggest a Rotnest Drake or Firetree Witchdoctor as a replacement if you're running a dragon heavy deck, or maybe a Shimmerfly to improve your curve, having cards to play in highlander hunter is important
After reading this topic I played some highlander hunter with dragons and secrets. I started at Rank 8 and now with winstreak pushing to Rank 5. Mainly played against Rogue which seems pretty good match up.

It is only 3.6k dust.

Fight, maggot!
You don't really need Dragonsbane
Hunter is a nightmaric beast. It can't be stopped and it won't be stopped.
Save your dust and wait a week or two.
I actually find Dragon Hunter superior to Highlander.
Dragonbane works perfectly in that list, but you can skip Veranus.
yes i think this will be better after rotation too but who knows for sure
edit: in reply to previous message
There's a couple versions of Highlander Hunter you can play, and even the Dragon version doesn't actually need those two cards.
