Hearthstone Mathematics - in his new video, hit some good points about this problem in HS, but i think there's more to discuss about this subject, since i started playing LoR, i feel like HS should improve his reward system, i don't say that LoR have a perfect reward system, but in comparison with HS it's definitely a better one.
Here is the video by the way:
I think better rewards for ranking, it's a must one, at least for rank 5 and legend, it's not even that generous to give great rewards for Legend rank, because they already pointed out that only 1% of the players base hit legend rank, this will encourage people to play the game more, and maybe even to spend some real resources on a competitive deck.
One more good idea is to introduce are weekly quest( something similar to LoR weekly vault) which will require a bigger effort to complete, but better rewards as well in addition to the daily one. They can go even further, and make them unique every week, like playing certain numbers of dragons, murlocs, deathrattle, spells, or something like this - this will not only encourage people to play more, but will make ranked fell a little bit more different every week.
This is only two examples, of course there is more, so what do you guys think can make the game better and can improve the monetization system in the game? Or what changes you will want to see implement in the game, in order to improve monetization system and encourage you to grind more?
How old is hs? 7 years at this point? More gold would be nice, especially if it was based off the quality of your game rather than just winning or losing. If they're afraid of people instantly conceding to get points towards gold they could make it so a conceder doesn't get credit until turn 4 or 5. I suppose you could spam end turn and on turn 4 or 5 and then concede but I dunno. It seems stupid to play against your polar match-up in this modern meta where personal choices don't do much for outcomes.
Fine as it if for me. Giving more free stuff will cause inflation and the packs won't be bought as much as they are now. So don't think Blizz will increase on that one much more (to be honest they HAVE ALREADY given away much more free stuff in the last couple of years than they had done prior: Brawl packs, quests up from 40 to 60 gold, Free Arena tickets, Summer and Winter events, Twich drops, etc)
It's a fun and challenging part of the game to manage my dust resources and the game economy/ Have spent 160$ on the game. Have been playing for 5 years now. Trailing 277 000 dust for a full (Wild + Standard) Card Collection
Truth of the matter is Hearthstone ladder is now garbage. Played since Beta, but now only play for the battlegrounds which are amazing. They should focus on ways to improve the competitiveness of battlegrounds and a reward system for that.
It’s not even about cost to me, I would happily pay a one off fee for each decent major patch of battlegrounds. However, my days of spending £150-£200 every expansion are well and truly over.
The ladder is just so tedious, that’s the reason I won’t spend on it anymore, simply because it’s not fun.
For us who play for so long, it won't make a big difference, because we already have the old expansions, and we always cad grind arena(at least me, i will always will choose arena over standard), but for new comers, for people who don't play that much, o for so long, it will be quiet hard, to complete classic collection, and to get all competitive cards from standard as well.
It comes down to this. Hearthstone isn't going to be as generous as other CCG's out there because it doesn't need to. It's an e-sport with a huge following that gives away real money. Other CCG's out there are not an e-sport and need more incentives to keep people playing and spending real money in the shop.
I'm more then well off in Hearthstone. So there are no rewards that can benefit me more. I more than have enough. But I been playing since the beginning. Starting new is more intimidating than ever.
Here is the thing. When a ccg is generous and fan, the players are willing to pay and play more.
I have only bought the welcome bundle in hs and i am not willing to give them even a another cent as i log in only for a couple of days after expansions. The metas have been terrible, we had only 2 new modes since launch and 0 of quality of life improvements.
On ther other hand, i have spent 120E on mtga and i have already a bigger collection than in hs. I could not spend a single euro and still have most of the playable cards by farming the many mtga modes. But i still preorder and support the game. Not out of the kindness of my heart but because there are many decks and combinations to unlock. I am not forced to pay in order to compete, but since there are tens of decks with limitless combinations, the more cards i have, the more fun i have.
Now, back to hs, Why should a old player who has the dust and gold to pay more when he can make the handful viable decks for free? Blizzard are lazy fucks who build the decks for us and just pump the same copy paste content. Just look any expansion. Around 10% of the cards are viable and the rest are garbage, and the viable cards are most of the times blant uninspired powercreep. What's more infuriating is how they respond to this. Instead of giving more thought and taking more risk in cardmaking in order to incentivise buying cards, they simply push the price of the game (raising prices, pumping more content per time, blocking cards behind paywalls etc).
Basically : Instead of good economy and fan gameplay is Fuck you!Give me money!
I like the $10 for 20 packs "thank you bundle" as me and most of us won't spend $50+ on pre orders. They will get $10 from most of us, especially those who also spend $50+ which means millions in extra money anyway.

I play MTGA and HS, both since closed beta and I call this BS. MTGA is even more expensive than HS. The pass tho is a pretty good deal, but it requires you to put in real money (well, it is possible by farming drafts. but collecting those gems if you are average still requires you some work). I do like the reward system of MTGA, not because it gives more but because it gives the rewards FASTER (15 wins/day, instead of 30 wins/day at HS). WIth a 50% win rate, MTGA takes 30 games, hearthstone requires 60 games to reach maximum daily reward. And MTGA games are imo way faster (mono red aggro hello there).
Still, MTGA is very expensive. Try to build one of those control decks, it is insane. In HS you can use neutral cards in all decks, in MTGA you are bound to the colors. Even the multicolor lands are expensive. And you cant dust your collection. One pack gives you more cards, whcih just means more garbage which you cant dust.
Affordable MTGA decks are monored, monoblack aggro decks, its just like in HS. Fast games, fast wins, fast rewards.
Please dont tell me anything about "even with small/medium size collection you can build competitive decks", thats just not true. I play ranked and casual, and you face aggro decks a lot.
WIzards is WAYYYY more greedy than Blizz. Remember the pass at the beginning? Paying money to unlock levels. Forcing you to play everyday (Yes, it got changed but only after the shitstorm!). Or historic format. 2 WIldcards required for ONE card. WHAT!? Using gold to unluck Brawl queue?!
Weekly quests is great but I would do it different...
Instead of weekly quests make it a monthly quest that reads something like: Play 100 cards... Gain 150 gold... and when you complete it, it will be changed into a continious quest that reads play 100 cards, gain 15 gold... (maybe increase the number of played cards, but this is just an example.)
Also, Like Kitox_Me pointed out, monthly rewards for both standard and wild... (and with the Wild rewards, make the rewards wild, so golden cards from any expansion)

The game may be 7 years old and not what it once was but still, it's doing respectfully well when you compare it to other games of this age so there isn't really any reason for them to restructure their in-game economy just yet.
For me as F2P guy the most disappointing thing was introducing adventure with new cards that you need to pay for while you also spent gold on the packs in the beginning of xpac. Saving up for packs AND adventure seems too much for me and I am really afraid if they are going this route next sets, The last straw to me was advertising how generous they are giving you the first wing "free" when in reality you get half of it and you need to pay the full price for the other.
Also not having a reward for reaching legend rank seems weird to me too.. I dont know how big of a deal it would be to give players golden legendary or maybe two golden epic cards as a reward considering gettin legend is not that easy and there is literally no reason to do it unless you want to qualify.
maybe blizzard is at some point forced to actually do something about this shit ladder if they wanna keep making money
but i highly doubt that, they just rather kill off games completely before proactively keeping it going. see hots and old wc3
they won't change it anyway, giving out more free stuff is hurting them first and foremost. it's not about the players even though they say so. just a very old and cheap trick
looking at how corporate suits run blizzard u'll never get that system and it's sad that's just the way it is. blizzard wont' change for the better look at how warcraft 3 has gone down look at the other stuff like HOTS etc they just cut anything that doesn't make em a quick buck and bare bones support on stuff that just floundering. You can get 2 pack worth of staff per day each containing 1 protected (from duplicates) epic/mythic,2 uncommon (rare in hs) and 5 common cards. You get around 40 free another packs by the end of expansion, you keep the cards you draft (in hs is keeping the cards in the arena),you can go infinite in constracted modes with just 4 wins (57% win rate) and most importandly you can buy deals like passes with in game currency.
Now about aggro decks, yeah you face them a lot because there are many new players in the game which cannot afford or are good enough to play anything else in the first days. You get many starting decks and resources to try the game. Now if you want that awesome grixis or esper deck you have pay or grind. But lets be honest, without playing a forgiving deck like mono red first, you would suck playing something more complex anyway, especially in the best of 3 format. You can make 1 deck of your choice after about 4 weeks of play without farming any of the modes. Much much less if you are a good player. This is fair. Not great and it could be better but is fair.
Sorry, but you are either lying about playing magic or you simply played too little. The game is by no means perfect and has huge issues both with the gameplay and the economy but calling mtga more expensive than hs? Get out of here mate.

I'm guessing you're fairly new to Hearthstone, because having cards you can only obtain when you buy/complete a Solo Adventures isn't new. They just havent done it in a couple years.
What was the last one? The Icecrown set from Knights of the Frozen Throne?
I think it’s okay. It got a bit hard to keep up for f2p player since they sold an adventure with each expansion. I played since beta and almost got lots of cards for each expansion but I couldn’t keep up this year. I have almost nothing from Galakrond and even have no card from the adventure. I chose to save gold for the new expansion but am only at 1700gold now. But I guess I am not playing as much as before. And I lose motivation rather quickly after a few matches because I have so much cards missing and can’t try new decks. I am still playing the old decks mostly. It’s a circle of decay.
if I could change one thing though I would cut the dust of legendaries in half. Almost every deck needs a few legendaries nowadays since they are so deck defining. 800dust would be much more reasonable.

easy and elegant solution:
give end of month rewards for both wild AND standard format
Weekly quests is great but I would do it different...
Instead of weekly quests make it a monthly quest that reads something like: Play 100 cards... Gain 150 gold... and when you complete it, it will be changed into a continious quest that reads play 100 cards, gain 15 gold... (maybe increase the number of played cards, but this is just an example.)
