Similar boat, I’ve been playing HS since before Naxx, so almost since the very beginning. I hit legend for the first time back in August and then this past month (January). For me it’s a really difficult grind. I main mage - I have 3300 wins with Jaina and my only other golden hero is warlock. I managed to hit legend the first time with Reno Mage, but after spending the next 4 months bouncing between ranks 4-2, I got frustrated and switched to galakrond control warlock and I don’t want to jinx myself but it was the easiest climb I’ve had. It doesn’t feel like it has an unwinnable matchup, and also isn’t being played much. Highly recommend giving it a try. The one I used was from vicious syndicate.
Not worth the time, play till Rank 5 every month, then do something that can actually be productive for your time spent, e.g actually generating you money for your time spent.
Hearthstone for anyone else than either... - A) a Pro = competetive = Esports Offline-events participating Player that somehow always ends up Top 30 Legendary OR B) a Full Time Full Paid HS Streamer - ...is a complete waste of both time and energy, and everybody knows that, yet your addiction gets the better on you.
Addition: HS at its very Core is simply too easy and everyone is solid, that's why you can't really beat and leave behind the rest of the field.
I mean take REAL eSports Titles like SC2 or WC3 as an example where you actually had to have natural talent and be gifted by the Divine in order to be special and farm all the Pricemoney.
HS ??? Naaaahh, just play Poker, man, Skill in Card Games (where you ALWAYS win and lose in Streaks and so by Default can't beat 50% by a large Margin) is overrated.
It's been said a million times before but I always find that it bears repeating, and I have to often remind myself about it, but it's basically a pure numbers game. Unless you're really struggling with a deck or making big mistakes in your play, it literally is just about the number of games you play. As someone said earlier, 51% will get you there, it'll just take about 300 games from rank 5, where allike a 63% winrate will get you there in about 75.
Indeed. You really need time unless your winrate is pretty high.
51% is not high enough.. You will gain you 2 stars every 100 games you play (51 wins, 49 losses), so to get 25 stars you will need to play 1250 games. That’s about 40 games per day for a month. So I would say 51% does not get you to legend.. ;)
60% gives you 20 stars per 100 games, so you’ll still need to play 125 games, which is like 4 games per day in a month..
Even when you would have 70% you’ll still need to play 2 games per day for a month...
it depends on the time you have and the winrate...
Thanks for math. Now i am sure i will never hit legend.:-( (As i play for 5 year and i don't think i ever hade more than 80 games per month, mostly even less.)
I guess it's mostly about how much you play in a month. I play since BRM just like you, but I only play enough to complete all quests, so I never got close to legend(and didn't really care for it). Now, my chances are even lower because whenever I want to keep playing after completing quests, I play Battlegrounds lol
Anyways, I think you can do it, persistance is key and maybe you'll hit the perfect deck and perfect streak one day!

No time... Only achievment which i did is beat Rastakan's Rumble adventure with hunter reduce cost. (Taked me about 250+ game while other 26 took about 250-) And as it was pretty hard as well and i almost lost my sanity before realized easy flaw in my picking of treasures i am happy for this even now, without need spend necessary time period in one month.
To all those saying legend is "easy" I really would not go that far (and frankly I doubt some of you have even achieved legend at all), especially for someone who's attempting to hit it for the first time. Others had some pretty helpful advice tho: make sure you're in the right state of mind, mentally sharp, know when to quit if you're tilted, etc. The first time I got legend I set a goal each day for a specific number of stars in a rank and I found that helped a lot. So if I was at rank 3 1 star I would keep an open mind if I was consistently winning and as soon as I started losing I would settle for say rank 3 3 stars (or 1 or 3 stars in whichever higher rank I ended up in) and then shoot for 1 rank higher the next day. You don't need to be too ambitious, it doesn't have to be a sprint. This is a realistic goal oriented approach that serves to prevent tilt and make you appreciate legend all that much more when you get it. With that said you definitely have what it takes to hit legend if you got mid rank 2, you just have to grind it out. Take a long-term/measured approach and I'm sure you will succeed.
Agree with some here. Legend isn't just a matter of time. PERIOD! People keep stating this average winrate of 51% yadda, yadda, yadda... It doesn't work that way. Winrates fluctuate, so just be aware of that.
1. Get in the right mindframe - you WILL lose games so be prepared to handle that. You may get to a point where you need one more win and you lose. That is just kind of the way it goes and you need to be mentally prepared and not get discouraged.
2. Play the same deck if possible. You will learn what is weak and strong for the deck and the decks you face the most. Those little nuances can turn a loss into a win in enough cases to make it worth while.
3. Watch a streamer play your deck if you can. They will usually know the deck very well and you can learn very fast on how to play each meta matchup.
4. Get ready for the grind - it does take a LOT of games, so try to set some kind of game plan of how many games or stars you want to gain each day and it also helps to play for like an entire day (if you can). This way you will remember certain tactics more easily as they will be fresh in your mind.

I think you underestimate how many games some people play.
1250 games is a lot, but some people don't work, have kids, or go to school. So those degens have time to just spam games. If the meta favors face decks, they just spam.
A 51% winrate also isnt necessarily static. A large loss streak followed by a lucky winstreak could be a 51% winrate, but would still get you Legend.

All of that is pointless advice. Just netdeck the highest winrate deck in the meta, or netdeck the counter to the most common deck on ladder, and just spam games all day till you get legend.
The only skill involved is memorizing what cards can be generated by cards like Zephrys, or knowing what cards the top netdecks use.
Disagree, I think having the right mentality is crucial to achieving legend. As you just said, getting legend is a "literal grind". If you don't have the mental fortitude and acuity to make it thru that grind then you're not going to get legend, it's as simple as that. Of course using the strongest decks and knowing what the meta is play a role as well, but to assert that that's all you need to hit legend is a vast oversimplification that fails to take into account the human element of the game.

Sorry to tell you. But it is not about mentality sometimes. Just imagine normal people witch work...
You go sleep at 22:00, wake up at 7:00, at 8:20 you go to work, at 9:00 start work, 18:00 you end work, 18:40 you are home drained of energy. 20:00 eat/rest to be usable as ever... And than you have finaly 2 hours of time for yourself... Great go to HS farm legend!
But we, who know how world work thank you for your advice to keep mentality up and ditch everything what is not related to HS legend.
Actually I'm a legend player and I will tell u. Nowadays ain't that bad how it was before with so many taunt and resourceful decks around like before with Frozen Throne and DK's. Now we have better options and fast decks now don't die by turn 7 against everydecks, now some can manage to 10 mana like this face hunter and kill u even if u're playing with priest (with a bad hand of course, something that priest almost never had before) or any form of control "Cancer". We had Guldan and Voidlords too, wich was ruining the game, and Baku and Gen too.
So now u only have to play a few hours a day doing 2 to 1 victories changing to two or 3 archetypes to not get caught by bad matchmaking and that's it. With good skills that now are almost none all decks are kinda rigged to something and rng is all around, so, in a good week u can get legend grinding 3-5hours a day for 1 week if are new to this stuff, if u play everyday and is good I guess u get legend in 3 days from rank 5 and so on.
EDIT: * 2 to 1 victories I mean 2 wins and 1 lost.

I'm gonna be real with you man, that's a pretty weak argument. I guess you're bitter bc you've never come close to getting legend and you attribute that to apparently not having enough time to do so? I hate to break it to you, but I've been a full time student at college while working a part time job for a few years now and I still had the time/energy to get legend. It's not that you didn't have the time or capability, it's more likely that you're not a strong enough player to play at a high level. And part of that may have been that your mental game was weak. So you're welcome for the advice, maybe if you actually applied it you would be more successful. GL
This is not very good advice. While true, it leaves out the fact that you typically require 124 to 572 games to reach legend with a %51 win rate, and that's just from rank 5. That's a large investment of time. Maybe that's an investment that full time streamers can make, but not most of us.

I'm gonna be real with you man, you're not coming off as someone who has any idea how the world works, lol. And frankly I'm not even really sure what you're trying to say. I am more bitter about see people with almost no skill hit legends, than me don't hit it. I was on college and i had time to hit legend, but i prefered making fortune in arena and even more grind rank in LoL. Now there is no time to hit legend anymore and i am already ok.
I really don't envy you hit legends with your situation in college days as i didnt had RL in young days too.
But i disagree with you about me having weak mentality. And i am sure about it from work and how long i can efeciently work if needed. So to the skill, which you didnt mentioned. I don't have best skills, as i really don't know how to play control decks. But i don't need to know as there is enought aggro/tempo decks.

Again, you just sound bitter and presumptuous. I have plenty of time for RL in addition to my schoolwork and my job, it's just a question of being efficient with your time. I'm sure you have the skill/knowledge to hit legend if you've been playing for 5 years as you said earlier in the thread. You just need to apply yourself and retain a good mindset. 2 hours every day for a month is more than sufficient to reach the top 1 percent.
This is not very good advice. While true, it leaves out the fact that you typically require 124 to 572 games to reach legend with a %51 win rate, and that's just from rank 5. That's a large investment of time. Maybe that's an investment that full time streamers can make, but not most of us.
I'm not sure what you're expecting to hear. If you say you don't have the time, you don't have the time. No amount of advice that pertains to achieving a rank in HS is going to help you with that (I guess play aggro instead of control bc the matches go quicker, but then your WR is typically lower so that's a crapshoot as well). What makes the advice "good" in this context is that it is conducive to getting something done in HS. If you need help with time management then this is clearly the wrong place. I thought it was self evident that grinding to legend requires you to take time out of your day to do so, that's why I didn't go into detail about how many matches it might take. With that said you can still easily play hundreds of matches over the course of an entire month while holding down a job, plenty of people have done it.
Even with 70% you said ? That's too much
When I got to Legend, the most important part was that I was unemployed, spent all day playing and knew all the other top decks and playstyles.
