"Why is it the only class that ALWAYS has some good to disgunstigly OP deck no matter what the expansion is like?"
If this is true, please list down all the Rogue decks in every meta that are "disgustingly OP".
5 mana draw a card, give all minions in your hand +3/+3 seems a little OP compared to other classes.
I'm not even saying this to counter your post, but have you even seen apocathary since nerf? I've played at least 60 games since patch and have not seen it a single time. Even having faced many rogues along the way.
I'm ~rank 10 aanndd I've seen Plenty... more than I would like to have seen, "nerf" didn't seem to change much...
Then again this seems to be the elo that the players are trash, countless misplays, but bc they play the fast aggro decks they climb to here and get stuck, getting all their wins based off lucky card draws
The nerf was quite efficient my friend, play that garbage 2/5 card it's almost the same as play mechanical whelp itself.
The only change was ... +1 mana cost? .... buy yourself one turn... still have 20 cards to pull through in hoping you get your one or two existing answers for One of his four possible buffs... and God forbid he gets both apothecary's and the legend that makes his cards 1 cost 1/1s ... so he can fill his hand with 1 mana 7/7s by turn 7 ... and that's without deathrattle weapon...
:|
And I'm not sure what your measure of efficiency is... but seeing as it is still used pretty commonly... I'm going to have to disagree
EDIT: Literally just played against 3* more, in a row.
No offense for real but you are playing at rank 10 what would you expect? There are people who either dont have enough dust to optimize their decks or just dont give a shit about climbing but have fun etc ...
So much bitching about sap, then you stop thinking for a moment and realize that wasn't played (for obvious reasons) in Keleseth Rogue and Odd Rogue and guess what? Not even quest rogue. And the current highlander deck (of course) only runs one.
Just because Keleseth Rogue and Odd Rogue were very strong without Sap, doesn't mean they wouldn't have been even more stronger with it. ;) And Highlander Rogue is a variant of Tempo Rogue, so there is really no reason to usually run more than one copy of any card simple because you can really f..k up your gameplan from time to time just because of that.

I'm F2P ... I don't have any expectations, the argument was about Rogue being OP ... and that still stands... 5 mana minion on the board with draw a card and +3/+3 stats to all cards in your hand is still a bit OP... Despite a 1 mana attempt at a "nerf" - if one single deck is still being played at any given rank more often than others, then there is a lack of balance
I dont think it's op anymore DadamE, 1 mana is a lot in HS. I mean sure the card is still powerful effect with anubisath there is no doubt about that but 1 mana delay so much stuff, it make his curve much clunky aswell.
Backstab and Sap are just ridiculous if you take a closer look at them.
Blizzard tryed and probably will try to make cards with those effects on minions ( like that pirate that saps a guy , but I cannot remember the name atm), but makeing a card that could replace those would be powercreep beyond all madness.
Everytime i play Tirion, and he gets Sap‘d I think " Hmm 2 Mana: make your opponent skip a turn and make his Tirion cost 16 Mana... seems balanced...."
Its an extreme example for sure, but it shows how polarizing the card is.
Except, you can't play it on any card with a battlecry, rush, charge, echo, etc.... There arent many big cards with no immediate board effect that are okay to return to the player. 90% of the times I use sap, it's on cards that were cheated out anyways, or to temporarily remove a taunt. Silence costs 0...
TBH I'm getting kind of fed up with Rogue right now, it just has too many powerful tools and their invoke is too flexible. I wouldn't mind Rogue having some powerful tools but they got ALL the good shit from early to middle to late game. Let's take a card like Togwaggle, REALLY though why does Rogue have that? That card is stupidly powerful and honestly should be in a class like Paladin or Priest. Also Shadowstep is entirely too insane with battlecrys being as powerful as they currently are. Back when that card was printed, there was not anything nearly as powerful for battlecrys, the power of that card scales up with the power level of every expansion and Blizzard should recognize that.
It has a good classic/basic set sure, but that alone is nowhere near enough. Mage also has a fantastic classic and basic set, and it's bottom tier, multiple times. Warrior really only has Brawl from it.
The thing is: Hearthstone is mostly a tempo based game, and Rogue excels at that, because the new sets always complement this aspect. Raiding Party, Waggle Pick, Underbelly Fencer, Vendetta, Burglar, Flik, Heistbaron, etc... there will ALWAYS be room for tempo decks and Rogue always receives cards to support that. Yes, new cards. Just basic and classic doesn't cut it, look at Mage.
The same thing was said about Paladin always being the in the meta, and look at it now. Just Classic/Basic doesn't cut it, receive 6 crappy sets and you're for sure the worst class.

Wut?
Paladin had several spots where it was the worst ( or at least bottom 3 ) , because of the low power core set. Every time someone writes "I can’t remember when Paladin was bad" I gotta shake my head, and think about a Goldfish....But coming back to Rogue, one thing people seem to forget is their heropower. Dealing 2 dmg over two turns is by far the most impactful HP tempowise.
Mage is certainly more set-powerlevel depending in that regard. Also since the Manawyrm nerf, i am not sure if the core set is still one of the best.
Shadowstep, Backstab, Edwin, SI Agent. Those cards alone guarantee insane early game removal. Today I faced a 6/6 Van Cleef on turn 2(!) as my opponent used the coin and vendetta (for zero mana).
Vendetta obviously is a new card ,but Rogue always has ways to play or create zero or one cost cards, which in turn allows them to barf out a huge Van Cleef early in the game. I hate that card so much, it is just ridiculous. Entire games are won or lost based on does my opponent have Van Cleef plus some cheap junk in his hand to start the game.

But you can counter Edwin with a 3 Mana BGH.. nvm . Or a 2 Mana Owl.. gosh darn it. Or Execute, Huntersmark, Naturalize, and Equality.. guess not.
Lets be real here . Many pros are betting on Edvin getting HoF next Expansion, wich seems only fair since so many counters got nerfed . I hope for some variety due the new Herocards.
Rogue should always have access to some cheap shenanigans, but on the other hand it should also have counterplays ( like a tokenbased strategy) . Edvin can autowin even those unfavorite matchups single handily. If they nerf or HoF him , it should definitely even things out.
I love how no one in the entire thread has stated the obvious. The fact that Rogue always have had a good deck is GOOD. That means the class is well balanced. The fact that other classes just suck sometimes is the real problem.
Nothing to see here this is fine. It's a balanced class. Well this was enough roguestone for today. I dont mind sap, edwin, backstab, but galakrond into dragonqueen, into Emeriss is cancer. You might ask what are the odds of that? Well this happened twice today, just right after each other.

I'm jealous you can beat so many Rogues!
I had a game yesterday where my opponent played Dragonqueen Alex on turn 9, then on turn 10 played her AGAIN using one he got from a lackey... and then AGAIN on turn 11 with another one he got from a lackey. I was actually happy I had lived that long.

This is because you forget the 2/3 times that the Rogue drew the Anubisath Warbringers before the Necrium Apothecarys. It's only the few frusterating times that the combo works that stand out in your mind... I haven't seen a single deathrattle rogue since the nerf... having 0 cost, or +4/+4 Leeroy Jenkins is much more popular now.
Actually an aggro/tempo and hardly a tempo deck but ok boomer
LOL!!! Another clueless user enters the chat!!! XD
The Basic and Core set of Rogue is tempo/combo oriented, which means the class is mostly about tempo and combo by design, not aggro. There is no doubt about it. Just because some Rogue aggro decks have been viable during some periods of time, doesn't mean that is the focus of the class. Don't you remember which was the first fully viable rogue deck??? It was Miracle Rogue, dude. Also, learn to use the Quote function. ;)
Rogue is always one of the best classes in the Arena because it's hard to play, have great hero power and Blizzard's Arena balansing philosophy is to make winrate close to 50% for every class for average player, so Rogue will always be in top 3 for strong player. I wouldn't say it about Constructed though. It's never been completely dead, but many times it was one of the weaker classes.

Rogue's classic set is disgusting.

remember the only viable rogue deck in jade meta? hint: it was a tier3 miracle deck that no one was playing.
