Recently, SolemHS released a video explaining just how bad Basic Set is, and how it hasn't held up at all. This pattern is typical for card games, so I'm not bashing Blizzard for that right now. However, this got me to thinking about how I personally would change some cards to keep up with the power creep and help early players acclimate and keep the game a little cheaper. Here are my buffs. And please, share your ideas! I would love to see others' thoughts on it.
Hmm seems interesting from a veteran player's perspective, but you have to keep in mind that these cards were designed quite blank so that new players would understand how to use them easily, they are not meant to be powerful, just to be a good learning pack ;)
I think basic cards could be a little bit better. But generally speaking it's okay for the basic cards to be a little less impactful than set cards. Though I don't think they should be as bad as they are.
The classic set on the other hand, could use some significant changes.
I wouldn't just go through card by card buffing each one like this, though. And I think this introduces too many complex mechanics for the starter set. Silverback Patriarch could literally just be a 2/4 for 3 without changing it's power level much. (5 health on a 3 cost minion is a lot)

So 9 slots is justified cuz players are gonna find their decks easily ? Are we talking about same company ? I realy dont understand the argument "so that new player would use em easily". How hard is to put a card on the field ? This is why i hated Blizzard back then.
U are gonna replace em as soon as u see something better. HS meta decks , go face. As for spells more than half of em are still in use in meta decks (30 out of 56). They are base of the game a standard that should be there for us to see what a solid card should be exept they got way over powercrept in the 1st few sets.
I still think the basic mage set is probably the best hallmark for what a basic set should look like. Statistically weak cards, but powerful, impactful effects that are generally useful in most situations.
Rather than Shaman, Paladin and Priest's basic cards, which are all very low impact and are highly situational in most cases.
Go reread all of the basic cards in game. They absolutely do *not* have keywords on cards that also have text based abilities.
You can definitely say that the power balance is completely off for these cards, and I'd agree, but they are designed to be simple for a reason - because they are the first cards people interact with.
The second big issue is that the guardian of kings confuses the core gameplay mechanics associated with paladin - paladin is great at bursty, single target heals, *not* area of effect heals. Including a type of effect in the basic set that never gets used in any other card is not good at conveying what that class does.

Great idea!

Basic cards are for learning the game. They do not need to be competitive.
If anything, they should continue to nerf or remove the ones that still show up in competitive decks.

For everyone how can tell us "basic set is for newbie, no competitive"
Druid:
Innervate Savage Roar Swipe
Hunter:
Tracking sometimes Timber Wolf Animal Companion Kill Command Tundra Rhino
Etc.
And this are only two classes, who uses ALL THE TIME their BASIC card's!
Why don't refresh another cards and make it more playable?
Absolutely none of these. Except maybe war golem.
