Well maybe this is a topic for salt thread but i feel like this needs to be adressed before the nerfs happen...
Blizzard did a huge step in Power-level for this expansion which is okay and the first big mistake is creeping Shaman with Galakrond to this unfathomable strong archtype, any deck with the Galakrond package for shaman is definitely stronger than the average decks. Blizzard acknowledges this and announced nerfs coming next week which makes me really happy.
But there is another culprit which i hoped to never see again in Standard mode.... Aggro Pirate Warrior. It is so strong that the meta is filled with Galakrond shaman and Pirate warrior to ruin everyone‘s day (well at least mine). Parachute Brigand is a Patches2.0 just a bit different, you drew 2 in the first turn play Southsea Deckhand as a 1 mana 6/5, the new ship‘s cannon (one mana more to have 2 more health), you need to waste a lot of ressources to compete with their early game in hope that like last time Pirate Warrior runs out of steam, but no they got Ancharrr which is such an insane draw mechanic. If thes play that legendary weapon and you dont have the Über-nuts you are sure that you are going to lose this one. History repeats itself when you powercreep old aggro mechsnics which worked already back then to be Top tier
All in all i just hope that Blizzard considers Pirate Warrior to balance a bit too because after Galakrond shaman nerf i am sure as hell Pirate Warrior will run the meta and i dont like Aggro to be in charge for my meta (i don‘t mind aggro that keeps some combo in check but not Tier 1).
The meta is so fucking dumb. This may be be the final straw for me. I've been a paid player and supported Blizzard but now it's just so terribly unbalanced I'm not sure I care anymore.
here's my take. Why don't you go work for Blizzard and do it the right way then? Don't tell us,go tell them. Sign up for a job and submit your resume then hopefully you get on the team. You can make everything kosher so we never have problems again!
Until then I'll go to war with the tools I have and figure out a way to win because sitting around and whining about everything does nothing to forward progress. I made rank 5 already so I'm done for the month you still have some time before the nerfs but I am hoping you use that time to apply for a developer position and get hired so we can then have the perfect game for years to come.
I agree that Pirate Warrior seems a little problematic but it's not the Parachute Brigand that's causing a problem. Brigand is surely good, but it's nowhere near Patches, difference between getting a free body out of your deck and out of your hand is pretty huge. In theory, you should be fine as long as you can deal with the initial strong wave of minions since they won't have much resources for the rest of the game but in practice that's not really how it goes. The problem is the resource generation and draw that pirate warrior didn't have before. Ancharrr provides a lot of draw and they can buff / refresh it with Hoard Pillager, Captain Greenskin and Upgrade!, and Sky Raider provides resource generation which sometimes insanely highrolls by giving some rogue pirates like Captain Hooktusk and Hench-Clan Burglar.
It's a little bit too early to be doomsayer-ing, for now, it's obvious pirate warrior is definitely not on par with galakrond shaman, so we will have to look at it after the nerfs and see if it's as dominating as it was in mean streets, but I kinda doubt it since some control and midrange decks seem actually quite strong too, it's just that no other deck is as strong as gk shaman so they are not in the spotlight.

I do get your point and I kinda feel the same especially in this forum. But I have noticed shaman and pirate warrior being at the very top is silly. Because Blizzard should know exactly what the majority of the playerbase didn’t like in the past: pirate warrior killing you by turn 5/6 and shaman having higher winrate than everything else by a lot :D I can’t imagine they didn’t figure this out before launch BUT I kind of also can’t imagine they figured it would be like this because it is.. :D :D :D
to me it’s very silly and i don’t quite get what’s happening :D but I like the expansion a lot. Artwork is nice and lots of opportunities to build different highlander decks in standard and wild. I like them the most
I really don’t think pirate warrior will be a huge issue when shaman is knocked down. You can afford to tech against. At least there are answers for pirate warrior.

What a response, i don‘t want to work for Blizzard, i don‘t intend to make huge life changings so i would maybe have a small impact on the game developing state. You consider this whining, i rather see this as an statement from a concerned long time customer of that game to REPEAT mistakes they have done in the past. I am quite happy with their quick reaction to Galakrond shaman but i fear that all the rage about it will drown other problems of the meta.
you made it to rank 5 congrats mate i did too, but you make it sound more like an assignment than a game you enjoy to play which is the problem we have at hand here. I don‘t need a perfect game, the game‘s balance was quite good this year and i appreciate the changes they made to releasing content. But and this is a big BUT they start designing an expansion like almost a year before they release it, who thought that powercreeping Pirate Warrior is a good idea and fun. I like when they do new mechanics and if one of them becomes too strong they even adress it promptly, i don‘t want to have to wait until the second patch of nerfs for Pirate Warrior to be balanced, i had enough of that 2 years ago...
there need to nerf 25 cost 25 dmg paladin... so stupid to get cleared each boead each round and when there get low there drop 3x 7/5 divine sheild with life steal + 1 i deck
There is always some tier 0 deck. I don't understand how and if they test the cards and decks that they create. 61% win rate deck is unbalanced. Take one single day to everyone to see it, they didn't see this coming? Or they just know and try to fix later?

I don’t think Holy Wrath Paladin is quite anywhere near nerfing. It does exceedingly well in this meta but it’s W/R is still on par with others and I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to play one but compared to most other decks Holy Wrath is a pretty skill challenging deck to play. So when I rarely see one (Now they are frequent because they counter Shaman) I don’t mind getting smacked in the face by an end game play. Any OTK deck would require a nerf if that were the case
I don't understand how Shaman got through playtesting. I mean, it was kinda obvious that it was going to be really broken, it took them 3 days before taking the decision to nerf them. It's not like Quest Rogue where the deckbuilding took a little longer to figure, and not many people could see the potential right away. But Galakrond Shaman is on another level, how two 8/8 rush + 5/2 weapon + 5 armor on turn 7 seems fair ? And on top of that, you have Shudderwock to redo this play if it wasn't enough.
Blizzard, please do some testing before adding new cards, and I mean with real players who want to win, not employees who just want to have fun with all the new cards.
I'm still evaluating whether there is a problem or not. If there is, it might be with both Corrupt Elementalist and the Galakrond final Battlecry, mostly because of the first, as it makes it much easier to fully upgrade.
I lost 2 games to the Shaman BS, and probably won't touch standard again until after the nerfs. Of course there is a problem when cards are in above 40% of the decks and archetypes have a 60%+ winrate with no solid counters.
My main theory how this happened is that they plan expansions way ahead and fail to adjust to the actual meta at the time of the release.
At least 3 Shaman cards should be nerfed hard, new Faceless and maybe a pirate or 2 should be on the block.
I also would not mind Arcanologist nerfed to 2-2 or 1-2 in Wild. Secret mage is too strong and not that fun to play against. Further down the line, Voidcaller should be 5 mana.

Honestly, I feel like these things DO come up in testing. But there are some people at Blizzard who respond with "oh sure, it seems super strong, but I'm sure the players will figure out a counter". Every expansion has that one deck that shows up within a day that seems obvious and should have been prevented. I'd prefer that they got more proactive instead of letting these escape to the public and have everyone annoyed.
If I had it my way, I'd like to see cards undertuned in the early days and receive a power-patch within a couple of weeks to bring classes up to where they should be, instead of these ultra-powerful decks that need to be nerfed in to the ground to balance the meta. Nerfing is never fun to see

They might hit a couple key cards for pirates, too. We can't know until they say or release the nerf patch

Because, despite having their most profitable year ever, Blizzard would still have layoffs.
Ooh...ooh. Can I play? Worst Expansion Ever!!!

Let me guess you hit rank 5 with Shaman? lol
