This is the 2nd time I feel this way, been playing since beta. There are by far too many legendaries and epics required to get a decent deck in order to be able to keep up with the meta.
How do you feel about it ?
What does it mean to "keep up with the meta"?
Play with the cards you have collected, and do your best. Sometimes that will mean you'll struggle against people at the top (or middle) of the ladder.
If that struggle doesn't suit you, you can play in Casual, where you will be matched against opponents more your speed.
If, however, your complaint is that a free player doesn't have enough cards to build all of the best decks on ladder, I would think the answer to that is self-evident. The game is free to play, not "free to have all the cards."

How do you feel about it ?
Honestly, I don't think it's that bad, at least for DoD alone. There are maybe about 4 or 5 legendaries that I'm actually interested in, and most of them I think are not crucial (especially since you already have Galakrond). I'm also hesitant to give too much about day one decks and meta trends when we get another adventure with 35 new cards anyway. Sure, it could be like Karazhan, but it could also be like Naxx.
But I know that feeling from Mean Streets and especially from Saviours of Uldum (had a really bad pack opening). In Mean Streets, it felt like everything was either Patches or Reno, and I didn't want to invest into either of them. I thought Kazakus would drop when Reno leaves Standard, and I really hated Patches. And Uldum, I think, has the highest number of relevant legendaries out of all expansions. There are at least about 8-10 that are worth considering and I got none of them. It's a bit disheartening when you feel like you can't play anything. But I think it's mostly a mind trick. I've ALWAYS been able to complete quests and do ok enough to get a couple wins (like about 10 or so) every day within an hour or two of playing, even when my decks were not up to date.
So, I think even when you didn't open many packs or got bad results, you can still "keep up". I think what's really more gettng to you is the so called FOMO (fear of missing out). It's more fun to try out all sorts of new decks and play whatever you want, and kinda sucks if you can't. But if that's what you want, you either have to play more, maybe shift your focus to Arena, or spend more.
I've refused to buy packs for this expansion. Blizzard's behavior regarding the Blitzchung suspension can only be addressed by hurting their bottom line. So, I feel your pain; I can't build a good deck either, even after plunking down 3800 in-game gold.
But even when I purchased a pre-order for past expansions, of 40 or 50 packs, I still couldn't construct a good deck. I think the real problem is that Blizzard simply doesn't provide good value per pack. Another reason not to put down hard money.
Ever consider the real problem is that you are bad at Hearthstone? I bet not.
The price of trying to have all Hearthstone decks is insanely high, either in terms of time (grinding) or money. It is simply not worth it. There are so many other games around, Hearthstone is not worth taking too seriously, in my opinion. After the first 2 weeks of an expansion, things get boring anyway.
The best way to approach Hearthstone, in my opinion, is to only play for fun (never grind for gold), never buy packs, and play what you open. Plus craft a few things, whilst being stingy with your dust. You have to be selective.
I completely agree with this. I'm not loving the new expansion, so I've started trolling people with an overly complicated combo priest deck. It doesn't win often but it's extremely fun to hit people with an OTK they didn't even know existed.
Of course you can't. And Blizzard quite rightly won't give a sh*t. They are in the business of selling garbage to dummies. F2P? Who cares about your feelings?
To be fair, he's not totally wrong. Changing an adventure set to a full new expansion set did make a great difference in that.
Karazhan, for example, had 5 Legendaries and 1 neutral epic. That changed to a full expansion with 23 legendaries and 27 epics (not counting duplicates) and many mores rares as well.
During the period of the adventure, you could have the entire expansion for just 2800 gold (value of 28 packs), which allowed you to save a lot of gold for the next full expansion. This became much harder, as each new full expansion is now on a much shorter clock and you need many more packs than that to have a shot at a decent amount of at least rares/epics.
Obviously just increasing 10 gold in the quests would never make up for 18 extra legendaries and 26 non-duplicate epics, plus rares. Combine this with the fact that now we finally have a year with full 6 sets instead of 4 and 1-2 adventures, so it's 2 full sets instead of 2 adventures, and you get pretty much 36 extra legendaries and 52 non-duplicate epics, plus rares.
Add to that the fact that Blizzard didn't change dust conversion rates and pity timers. Dust still comes in the same way before the adventure to full expansion change: Disenchant 4 legendaries to craft 1, for example. Should change at least for a conversion of 3 to 1 by now, with the amount of cards and the time span they keep coming.
Pity timers are also way old, back when stuff wouldn't rotate, so it made sense to keep it high. Now ordering a $50 pre-order of 100 packs and having the risk of just getting 2 out of 23 feels insane. Max pity timer should be at 30 by now, if not 25. There's way many more extra legendaries around now.
Not possible to keep up? Definitely not. You can. But much harder? Definitely yes. It isn't just a feeling, it's a fact.
Having pre-ordered the maximum bundle since Witchwood, plus some extras here and there, I have more resources than a F2P, obviously, but still have that feeling that while I can do more, it's also on a knife's edge and requires a lot of caution. Crafting less than half of Highlander Mage, for example, goes almost the dust of almost a year saving. And that's because I got most of the deck, including some of the legendaries.
While I can play multiple classes, though not all optimally, obviously, I still feel that for more than $400 I should be able to do a little bit more.
I play the game and collect the cards. I have a complete collection that is about 66% golden. I spend money on the game ,sure but every expansion I get 95-102 free packs just from the quests between expansions. I pretty much do the daily quest and log out. Now that you don’t even have to win games to get the quest done it’s a login reward. I was amazed at the number of quests the player base does every month in the stat report compared to me logging in for 20-25 minutes and leaving. Now I login pass every turn and get my gold and log out. I play the down for a couple weeks and the. It gets boring so I don’t really play it. I’ve been legend numerous times and have played enough. To say you can’t make a deck being an F2P and you have played since beta is really hard to believe if you even play the game land just do the daily quest. I’ve played since closed beta and I never spent money on the game for a year and I played just fine. To your credit I would never even play this game if I picked it up today because it wouldn’t be worth my time. No way would I play this all day like I used too, it’s just too boring and repetitive at this point.
I think even paying players are falling behind you collect 9k gold open 90 + 60 pack to only get 9 legendaries most of the epics still will be missing packs are expensive as fuck.
They are now planning to getting adventures in between expansions it is like saying f2p to screw you go play something else.
This is the first time I ever spent money for the 50Eu preorder, also bought some packs with gold, so I opened around 100 packs. I got only 3 legendaries and even though I paid I feel like I can't keep up...
If, however, your complaint is that a free player doesn't have enough cards to build all of the best decks on ladder, I would think the answer to that is self-evident. The game is free to play, not "free to have all the cards."
As very well explained in the video, you can get substantial rewards which lead you to a quite nice number of packs just from rewards par extension. With 125 packs approximately, you should be able to cover an extension (again not have all cards but be able to use/craft a reasonable number (at the very minimum3) of efficient decks).
I have a FTPaccount and I even use the FTP to test legendaries which I'm not sure I wanna build for the main (paying) account. That is to say I've got enough gold and dust on that account and even if I don't play ladder with it, I could easily.
So please stop complaining about something that can be 100% free if you just spend less than an hour a day doing your quests and getting some additional rewards where possible. Nothing comes free on this world and this is the closest to free you can get (Maybe we should ask Blizzard to pay for our computers and internet providers too ;-P )
Now if you don't wanna spend money nor time on a game, why even bother complaining about it?

To make them increase the rewards ? the first thing you do to get something is wanting it right. There is a proverb in my native language. "Baby who doesn't cry gets no titties"
The real problem in this expansion is there are too much good cards f2p players simply cannot catch up.
I opened 60 packs with gold, and it was more than enough to craft the Paladin deck I imagined. If ppl wanna play with 6 several decks i can see the issues tho.

The number of top-tier decks that absolutely destroy other decks, that have a HUGE number of legendaries is kind of ridiculous this expansion. Galakrond is a card you get for free, but to run Galakrond you need a separate neutral legendary and probably two epics per class. To say nothing of all the other cards you need.
I had enough cards (and full disclosure I preordered... I think 3 of the past 6 expansions?) to build a cool Warlock Galakrond deck. And then I could build a fun little priest deck I wanted, but if I want to make ANY changes to that priest deck to improve it, I am totally out of luck because I can,t afford a lot of the strong tech and optional cards I wanna try out.
I am not even close to having "all the cards" of one class, never mind all of them. Ever since they changed it so they're releasing 3 sets a year, there is SO much catching up to do. And sometimes it's not even worth it because I'm going "Well, I could craft this year of the Raven card that I want, but it's going to cycle out in three months" and that's just a bad feeling.
If youve been playings since beta you should have decent wild decks at the very least.

In my country they still have to suck to get what they really want... Life is cruel I know...
Nope, there are bots that can play instead of you and farm you gold.
Sucking bots?
Honestly, no .
