You have to choose:
1- Be a free player, focus and spend very wisely your resources to get the crucial cards and build your decks with you have, many competitive decks are cheap enough to all player have chance.
2- Be a paid player, send tons and tons of money to Blizzard and build anything you like.
What you can't choose is have everything for free.
Very bad news for players like me, that want to play Standard, but have no interest in the solo adventures. I either have to craft the strong new cards (which could cost a fortune in dust, depending on how many there are), or I'm forced to buy and play-through the adventure.
You know what, were just going to dive in on this. This opinion is unpopular I am sure, and this comparison has been made before, but it's going to be made again because it is valid.
This is a card game. When more cards come out in a card game, you generally have to spend money to buy it. I am going to compare this to the forbidden fruit of discussion on these forums, MTG. Do you think when a new expansion comes out in Mtg, you can get a booster pack or box in real life for free? Do you think you can keep up with the meta for just $80-$100?. Absolutely not.
There are cards in magics standard format that can run $20-$60 if not more PER card. And in Mtg, you can include 4 copies. In hearthstone, you can at least include the gold you earn between expansions, in addition to maybe doing the $50 pre order you are set for the next set.
And if your response to that is that you don't have enough time to play enough to get the gold because you work all the time/have a life, and cannot afford to use real money to catch your collection up in lieu of gold from farming, the you know what, I'm sorry. Life's not fair, and card games may not be for you. This game is free if you dedicate the time. If not, you gotta pay. And what is wrong with that model? You can't buy real life Mtg packs just by playing unless you already have an established deck and are winning tournaments.
Card games, for the most part, are "you gotta pay to play." If that runs you the wrong way, find a different genre.
Lets also point out real life cards have value and may retain a real currency value even after a long time but in hearthstone as a ccg you dont have the option of trading cards or getting a monetary value from them so the comparison of hearthstone to real life tcg's may prove difficult and not appropriate.
The job thing, that "i work and i don't have time to play" If you have a Job you can afford 50$ every 4 months, i do and i even pay it during those 4 months, like 12$ a month. In a game you really like and enjoy i don't think it's a great cost. Games like Duel Links are so much expansive to do anything, so yeah i aggre to this guy(not about comparing to MTG, but the cost not being so high)

If you have physical Magic cards that are worth anything to sell, you have probably spend literally thousands of dollars per year to collect it.
No one has ever had to spend that much on Hearthstone. It doesn't cost anywhere close to a thousand dollars per year to maintain a complete collection.

Well then, it's a good thing that Hearthstone costs a fraction of what those real life cards games do, doesn't it? Seems a fair tradeoff.
In Hearthstone, you can pay $70 for 100 packs plus a guaranteed legendary.
In Yugioh or Magic, you can pay $70 for one card, or for 17 packs that you might not even get an Epic equivalent, and if you do it's probably not something you can use.
It's literally not even close. I personally feel like making all quests give 100g would be fine, but overall it is not difficult to get multiple good decks with a small investment. I spent 50 on the last expansion and have a playable deck of every class (I tend to sit around rank 9-10 because I can't be bothered to grind higher) and almost every legendary that I actually want.
We were complaining about how expensive was hearthstone with 3 expansion. And now we have an extra adventure to pay to get cards? 3 + 1? We have to spend extra 20-30 euro to shake the meta? Why don't nerf and buff more often instead?
If this new adventure succeeds , will be a 3 + 3 so expansion and adventure every 4 months. So basically who wants to play will pay for it. Be ready.

I saved up like 7k of gold. I'm just going to spend all but 1k. Adventures in the past were usually 5 wings at 700 gold apiece. The first was usually free. If the trend stays the same, you need at least 2800 gold to get all the wings. It feels doable, but I'd rather they push the adventure.

Why would you even think Blizzard wants to help anyone continue to be a free player?
Their biggest wish is to convert all free players into paying customers. This is not a secret.
In this move, Blizzard have just hiked up the price of Standard. I’m surprised people seem to be happy about it. The game is already extremely expensive, compared to all other digital CGs, but it just got even MORE expensive.

Like I realize it costs money to keep up, but as you said if you are working and cannot afford the cheaper pre order bundle when an expansion comes out, you need to just move on to a different game. I would say many gamers spend $50-$60 every 3-4 months or so (if not more frequently) on a new video game. And that's what expansions mean to card games, essentially a new game in that the entire meta shifts and the decks being played change.
And that is all secondary to the fact that you technically can play this game entirely for free if you put the time in. Especially if you're decent at arena.

They will not let you craft any card from the adventure until they rotate out. So it means you have to buy the adventure either with real money or game currency.

Where did I say "how dare you want something out of a game if you don't spend money?" Where did I even infer it? If anything I defended how easy the access to cards in hearthstone is free of charge. My problem is some of these FTP players want everything for free. Everything. Go play any other card game that is 100% free to play with 0 existing potential for profit and see how it is, or if it even still exists.
Don't try to make a blanket statement that anyone defending that product should actually cost money is somehow evil. That's the real world. If I am willing to spend money that I work for on something like digital cards, why shouldn't I have access to a bigger library of them than someone that does not?
You have this warped notion that I, or someone else defending this, think "oh look another free to player bum that wants nothing but handouts." That's absolutely not what I think about the majority of them. I just think people need to be more appreciative of what they have available to them, rather than this we want "more more more" for free mindset. Blizzard has created a means for those players to play the game without giving them a single dime.
And to those of you who responded with "in mtg you have tangible cards that can be sold." Yes of course. You better be willing to fork over a hell of a lot of initial cash to even dip your toe in. Those players that have collections valueing in the upper tens if not hundreds of thousands have been playing for 10/15/20 years if not longer. They're not the types of people that just flip flop around to the current FOTM card game. So people who just see hearthstone and think "that looks cool, but I should be able to start playing with every card free" is boggling to me. And I can totally respect that this is not everyone or even the majority, but those aren't the people I am talking about.
Edit: Oh and I would also like to add that that battlegrounds has absolutely 0 paywall, is an entirely free play mode that actually has no cash option, that they just released and absolutely didn't have to.

You can be cool with that, but let's not pretend that it's of comparable value to a game where you pay once and get the whole experience. It's a Skinner box, and we're rats.
