After playing about 30 games of Battlegrounds (and loving it) returning to ranked really feels like a drag. In BG there are so many decisions and actions to make in a short period of time that it makes board building and victories more satisfying. Right now I'm taking a Principles of Management class and a lesson from an earlier chapter talked about how pressure from deadlines can serve as motivation and how schooling, jobs and projects often have deadlines which ultimately drive accomplishment. I was thinking about that as I went back to ranked and sat there for 15 seconds just to wait for my opponent to play a Southsea Deckhand and pass.
I recommend cutting the turn time in half or potentially introducing a new game mode: Blitz Hearthstone! where each player has 5-10 seconds to play. I think the real skill actually comes in dealing with the pressure and time constraints and acting quickly. This citation may be incorrect, but I believe it was chess grandmaster Maurice Ashely who said (and I'm paraphrasing) "anyone can make all the perfect decisions if they have all day, everyone looks like Magnus Carlsen without a time limit". I'm interested to hear if anyone else has felt this. Enjoy playing!

As long as you enjoy playing about 95%+ aggro games, sure. 5-10 secs is barely enough time to even play minions and attack face, let alone the more complex decisions that midrange or control/combo demand.
I definitely get the annoyance of the rope when it seems like the opponent doesn't need that much time - in the end though, it's there so that players in competitive circumstances have a sufficient amount of time to do everything they need to during their turn. The only potential change I could possibly see is having some sort of scaling turn timer reduction for the first X turns, where it's much less likely that complex decision making will be required - maybe the first 4 turns? Anything more than that and you can already find difficult situations to parse, particularly if one deck has come out swinging and the other is trying to turn it around.
They ARE 2 totally different games. I feel that drag on ladder now after playing Battlegrounds. BUT, I think that distinction is important and needs to be emphasized. It is great that Hearthstone offers a quick game now AND its great that they offer a slower burn in Ranked/Constructed- along with the solo missions and area. The the diversity lets more folks do stuff they life. Both experiences are wanted and needed separately. The mistake would be to make them feel too samey. I don't want them to change a thing- except keep pumping out content that prevents both game from feeling stale.
If it weren't for the phone users the turn timer would've been re-jigged by now for sure. It can feel absolutely glacial, and I never play aggro either. Sometimes its those playing aggro that seem to need till the rope is burning just to make that "southsea deckhand" play.
At some point I want them to introduce a 'speed' mode or soemthing, a seperate ladder. But i'd settle for a shitload of Nozdormu style playable minions. It's a load of crap that control/combo decks need 2minutes a turn...maybe when you're new with a deck, but bythte time you've piloted enough to get good with it, you don't need all that time, turns are fast. The only ones that do are the stupid APM boar/snip-snap OTK decks, that need all the time they can get. Wouldn't be any great loss IMO, that playstyle is dumb.

I think that's a great idea. What is the maximum amount of time a person would really need on turn one or two? you should be able to make your decisions in 20 seconds I think. Even if you have a handful of low cost spells and minions and have a few options, I think they can be sorted through in that time.
I would love to see turns being cut down to 1min - been wanting that for a long time as too many people are Lifecoach slow in their plays - I mean come on it is turn 2 you either heropower or play the only 2 drop you have.
Agreed. I love the pacing of Battlegrounds, and my biggest pet peeve in hearthstone is roping. I can't imagine going back to spending any meaningful amount of time on the ladder. I think I might just save up all my gold in anticipation of Blizzard charging an entry fee for Battlegrounds at some point in the future.

"anyone can make all the perfect decisions if they have all day, everyone looks like Magnus Carlsen without a time limit".
Just because a top player said it, doesn't make it true. I know for a fact that I would make terrible decisions in chess, even given all the time in the world. Likewise, there are many Hearthstone players who lack the experience and skill to make good decisions regardless of time limits.
But more than that, it's not just about thinking and decision-making. There are some decks in Hearthstone that simply require a lot of clicks and animations. It would be a shame to penalize them -- or even make them just slightly harder to play -- only because some people get impatient. If your attention span is so short that you cannot afford your opponent the courtesy of a 75-second turn, maybe Hearthstone isn't the game for you.
If you prefer the pacing of Battlegrounds, play Battlegrounds.

I think you could make it extend a turn if you actually play something. Up to a total limit, of course. That actually adds to strategy.
Turn time is a problem, and it's a problem that can be solved if people are willing to be creative.

While there are so slow animations shorter turns will cut down several builds/strategies.

Don't hold your breath on that last sentence.
I enjoy.
