It's actually quite fun IMO. I too am a F2P player and got access by watching twitch streams.
I actually think this may be there best mode for a F2P player since this mode can be enjoyed regardless of you collection. The only disadvantage is until you purchase 20 packs of the current expansion, you only get to choose between 2 heroes at the start instead of 3. But, if you get 20 packs with gold,I believe the 3rd option becomes available.
As far as it's longevity, that depends on whether they continue to keep it updated with new cards. I assume they will. If they do, say probably every time a new expansion comes out, then it'll last for a very long time. If they don't, it'll due out after a few months. I think that even if there are no plans to add new cards (unlikely) they'd realize it once it's popularity diminishes and address it, so I think it'll be fun for a long time.
As far as balance, it's got a bit of work to do but I think it's actually not terrible. There rating system needs a complete overhaul as it's currently implemented in the dumbest way possible and in no way reflects a players actual skill but rather their initial luck within their first 15ish games (where most players will be trying to learn).
Some heroes are clearly way better than others and that needs to be adjusted but the cards is all luck of the draw and adjusting your strategy based on what offered to you. There's a fair amount of strategy involved with knowing how to spend your gold, when to upgrade your tavern, which minions to buy, the order you have them in etc. There is more RNG in this mode than we've ever seen so a players strategy has to take into account the worst case scenarios and best case and adjust accordingly.
This mode will not be for everyone. It can be incredibly frustrating when the worst RNG outcome happens to you repeatedly and that will happen to everyone eventually. There's no getting around it. But I think most players will find it to be a nice change of pace from the regular game.
If you haven't played an autobattler before, it is probably fine. If you have, it feels like a very dumbed down version - because it is heavily simplified it probably won't hold your attention for long. It also has much more RNG than other autobattlers.
very bare bone auto battler. decision making is pretty meh since you almost can't do anything but guessing whgo attacks who.
mechs are way to overpowered. and yes, i'm salty because final opponent discovered ice block 3 times in a row and then he high rolled with the attacks.
Welllllllllll if that is all we are getting with full mode I don’t see it lasting long enough. But this is coming from some one who thinks they are just pandering to the auto chess fan base. But that’s my 2 cents. You can disagree it up to.
Too slow, repetitive and boring. Game plays itself, It makes you feel like almost no control over it. In summary it is a RnG fiesta with very little upside.
Poll is actually 14/23 = 2/3 favoring battleground
You're right but it's hardly overwhelmingly positive. I'm very surprised to see 21.4% place it in the bottom tier. Maybe i'm a cynic but i'd like to find out more about why the high number of negative votes on the first week of release.
People who absolutely hate it (probably because they lose so much and blame on RNG) will vote 1 whereas people who love it avoid the extreme "10". Overall, we can see that battleground is a positive addition.
ok, when i first saw it i thought wow this looks really cool i can't wait to see what else they have other than mechs and beasts, this game mode has so much potential
2 hours later.......oh well im done that was fun. It's like a brawl i played 10 times it was really fun till i got completely bored
If they don't continue to re-balance, it will die. It doesn't have the depth of a functioning system on its own, it needs constant tweeks or its relevancy will be relegated to a few months before complete obscurity. Too many games on the market in the same genre for this to lack depth and keep new and returning players, not the die hards who will go down with the ship.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
If you thought you knew what you think I know, then you'd know I knew you knew I know.
I posted a more detailed opinion in another thread already, but the summary is very similar to what others are saying...
1. Initially, it looks fun, but it needs to be updated and BALANCED regularly, or this mode will fade into obscurity.
2. They took time to build and test this mode. That means they 'wasted' time on this mode instead of all the other features Hearthstone players have been asking for. If that is the case, I would rather have this be a semi-regular Tavern Brawl rather than a normal feature.
3. I hope this gets supported, but I imagine over time this mode will either lose popularity or lose the support from the dev team. Either way, they need to have a VERY specific plan and long term idea or this is a flash in the pan.
Battlegrounds is really good. I think they hit a home run with it. It manages to keep the same heart and feel of HS but it’s a totally new game. I actually haven’t played ladder once since it came out. There is some rng but decisions really matter as well. Minion placement, when to sell or upgrade. Changing strategy mid game from beasts to mechs for example, it’s not easy.
Battlegrounds is still in beta and does need some balancing because mechs are pretty insane but the game is a lot of fun. Have a look on YouTube for some videos and you will get an idea of what it’s about. The overall response has been very positive, game is super addictive!
Edit - worth adding that you play with sever other players. Over the last week I haven't had to wait in the queue longer than 20 seconds which means a lot of people are playing Battlegrounds so I think it's proving to be a hit.
Don't mistake popularity for something being 'good' or a judge on if something is worth doing. There are plenty of examples in which the popular opinion is not representing reality.
People of the earth used to believe the Earth was the center of the universe. Just because it's a popular belief doesn't make it right or good.
That being said, I hope this does well, but it NEEDS constant support and balance patches. If they end up wanting to do tournaments with this, they will need to be ever vigilant.

You example doesn't really make any sense though, since one is a fact - Earth is not the center of the universe - and the other is a preference. You can never really judge entertainment 100% objectively, since peoples preferences differ. Example: no matter how great reviews and how popular a first person shooter game were, I would never play it because I don't enjoy that type of games.
The reality is that lots of people are playing Battlegrounds, otherwise the queue time would be much longer. Presumably, people wouldn't play something they didn't enjoy, so we can probably conclude that a fair amount of people thinks Battlegrounds is a fun mode to play. I would argue that Hearthstone's main objective is to provide fun and entertainment, and the large playerbase would indicate success in that regard. Doesn't that make the mode good? I think it does. That doesn't mean that Battlegrounds can't be made even better (it is still beta after all), but the core idea and gameplay works. Not everyone will enjoy it, of course. It is literally impossible to make something every living being will enjoy.
I think the critique that Battlegrounds is a 'dumbed down' auto battler is incorrect. There may not be an interest system, but sequencing matters much more, and while there of course is a lot of attack RNG, you can still lose a game because of wrong positioning. There's plenty of RNG in TfT too (which minion will recieve a random armour buff, which of three possible minions will clone themselves etc.). It's different because it is based on a card game rather than a moba, which makes different mechanics matter more, and I feel that people used to playing Tft and Autochess doesn't fully recognize this.
It is good fun, but as with every meta, once people figure out the optimum way to play it, it will become stale. It will need constant revision I think. At the moment, like any new meta, it is good fun to try.
I've always been F2P so I haven't given it a go yet but i'm curious about the general consensus.
How would you rate it taking in to account your first experience and longevity?
Would you say it is worth getting excited for to a player who has yet to play it?
Is it balanced and does that even matter if it's enjoyable anyway?
Good... really god. First auto-battler I've ever played and it completely renewed my interest in Hearthstone.

all in all, just more and more stupid rng.
mediocre at best.

Poll is very split. So it's kinda mediocre but a good introduction to auto-chess?
I've heard from a friend that it pales in comparison to other auto battlers but I haven't tried those either to be fair
Poll is actually 14/23 = 2/3 favoring battleground
Vote for my Card Design Submission! I love this one!

i think it not about it good or not (ofcouse it not bad), it's about we have a new think to play (on phone), kill time, have fun, ...

It's crazy you must pay for the adventures and then they give this mode for free. So much more fun. Although one game is so long sometimes.
