So im back after almost a year of not playing and hearthstone community seems quiet... It confuses me since i can see the game is doing progress with new game mode, new expansions as usual, and yet when i look at decks here they have very few upvotes, very few comments. I remember best decks having 100+ scores all the time, now the best i could find is 38?
Is heartstone losing its playerbase? Do you feel like the game is, dare i say it, dying?

People will always claim that the game is dying because they are either bad at it or they don't like the current state of the game. It is nonsense, don't pay attention to that.
The reason why you don't see as much activity as there was before is because standard is in an extremely bad and stale meta. Evolve shaman is roflstomping people (from what I've heard but I don't play standard so idk really) and a loud majority of people here have said that they are pausing the game until shaman goes away. We've seen this hundreds of times before.
There is a new expansions coming out soon and a new game mode came out so I'd say that December (when they get rid of shaman) onward the forums will be alive again :)
Hearthstone is doing great. The Standard meta is a bit stale right now but still ok. The new Battlegrounds Mode is pretty sweet though and I think most people are playing that. You have to buy the preorder bundle for early access because the game is still in beta but it’s worth it imo. They’ve managed to keep the heart and feel of HS while offering an entirely new game. It’s only been out a few days but it’s really fun and I think a lot of people are enjoying it. As always there will be tons of folks on this forum and Reddit who will say the new Mode is rubbish blah blah and how they’d rather have tournament mode blah blah but I wouldn’t pay any attention to them.
Hearthstone is a great game, in four and a half years of playing I’ve never thought otherwise, even when I’m having one of those days where I can’t seem to buy a win. The cards from the new set look awesome so if you’re thinking about coming back then now is a great time to do so - provided you buy one of the preorder bundles so you can try out Battlegrounds.
well Hearthpwn has lost a lot of the most active community members to Outofcards. I wouldn’t link hearthpwn being more quiet to hearthstone losing its player base.
Also I think Forum Threads is very Low in quality these days and I find a lot more „good“ threads on Outofcards.
Fluxflashor has been the Heart on this website and with him gone many followed obviously.
i know lots of players who haven’t even been on this website.
The reason you see less engagement specifically on Hearthpwn is because there was a lot of confusion this spring about the site shutting down and then at the last minute not shutting down anyway. A lot of the mods left to create their own website and a part of the userbase moved to the new site.
Additionally, I think people have stopped netdecking from Hearthpwn. Everyone uses hsreplay nowadays and get their meme decks from streamers. So that explains the limited upvotes on decks and stuff.
The only people left spending money on packs are the desperate and brainless.
Go watch the video of the recent world champs. Lots of games decided on whether or not contestants high-rolled their evolve shamans and even the commentators seemed embarrassed by that deck.
It will linger on for a few more years as it has a pretty big player base and there is a subset of stupid people that will defend BLizzard no matter what they do.

Hearthstone is in a good place. Not as popular as it once was but still more popular than most other games as it still has over 100 million active users. The social aspect is dead. You have this terrible site you are on that can't even post the news on time or correctly. Also rumor has it they are a Chinese run company but that is rumor so take it with a grain of salt. The old crew got run off when Curse sold all it's websites. They started a new site that is better in quality but the forums are about as dead as here but you do get better topics and more competent people posting.
Not much has changed in Hearthstone in a year and not really that much time has passed. Just jump right in without us holding your hand.

May I ask what is your purpose on this forum, Synthetikmisery? Is it all about promoting toxicity all the time? Because that's the only thing you do here... -.- Don't you have better things to do with your free time?
And no, Out of Cards is not better in quality, Out of Cards is a piece of crap, a forum ruled by authoritarians with a notable silly sense of humor, with topics that no one cares about and full of circle jerking. It is f...king disgusting...
Hearthstone is doing fine. No, it didn't get better, it's the same like in the past: only one or two heroes are competitive, the rest are only for fun. And no, the developers aren't trying to balance the game, only to find ways to give people a reason to log in and buy packs with real money.

been dying since beta obvs /sarcasm
HSBG is really fun and doing well. There is the traditional lull in activity before a new expansion.
Saying that the game is dying would be a little silly, but I'd say it's not as popular as it used to be.
While those are only signs, the game has significantly less viewers on average on twitch, popular streamers/youtubers have less views, less activity here, vicioussyndicate having less contributors, Blizzard having fewer monthly active users than it used to have... so yeah, kinda looks that way. The recent Blitzchung incident probably didn't help either, but time will tell how much of an impact it had.
Whether the game is dying or not depends on whether these trends continue, but unless something really bad happens, I'd say the game is safe for now. Battlegrounds might also help the game to get better again.

Some thoughts:
1) Twitch viewership is down to begin with. That is partly because of competition from Mixer and FB Gaming. You can find plenty of venom on Reddit concerning the number of commercials.
2) Players who left Hearthstone to play other games, such as Savjz, have stagnated on their viewership.
Hearthstone was doing relatively badly for awhile with Standard getting ruined by Doom in the Tomb and the Hong Kong controversy, but with battlegrounds out it's doing great. Lots of people who quit the game came back for battlegrounds. It baffles me that a big publisher like Actiblizz would put out something so good for free with no strings attached. The only incentive to pay for battlegrounds are stupid emotes that I don't want anyway and the trivial boost of picking from 3 heroes.
I'm waiting for the "but." Like "but you have to pay gold for entry on official release" or "but some heroes you can pay for." The game designers must've done some serious smooth talking to the publishers to let them do all this for such small financial gains.

Consider other autobattlers from companies that have big name games linked to them (Riot and LoL, and Valve and DotA2 are the two I'm aware of) - they are also free. The thing is, there's a few perks to these free game modes:
* Getting people into the game that might not have been otherwise interested, or have left for a while. * Getting people to spend money on other aspects of the game as a result, such as packs if they decide to stick around. And don't think this is absurd - I hadn't played LoL in aaages (was very beginner when I did), but with the release of TFT I reinstalled and had been playing about a game a day on average until recently. * Future cosmetics for this game mode that they enjoy. I know TFT has different models for your character, and I could see Battlegrounds offering golden hero skins or something like that. * Potential esports events and thus major advertising for Blizz and Hearthstone if the game really takes off.
There's a lot to get out of a free game mode for Blizz. I have no doubt that they'll monetize it in some non-P2W way (you can argue that right now it is monetized in a P2W way with the hero selection only being available if you have DoD packs and the only way of getting those being to preorder, but after the set is actually released I'd be surprised if they monetized P2W aspects - it'd receive a huge backlash and I can't imagine they're that dumb, even after all the HK stuff).
Yeah I gotta say, the new mode really brought people back, my friends list is populated like it is after a new expansion launch right now. New mode seems like a cool concept too, the auto-battler thing works better inserted into hearthstone than I thought it would.
Hrthpwn itself doesn't seem to be doing so great. I tried OoC, but I don't like the formatting and navigation as some guy mentioned above. Using reddit more these days.

But its definitely in a terrible state.

Depends who you ask...
Haters: HS is dying/already dead/sux/etc.
White Knights: HS is great/NOT dying/(insert a minor complaint here to give the appearance that they are not White Knights).
; )
"There is no spoon"
It's making millions. Doin' fine.

I tried out of cards, but unless I'm missing it, you can't even jump to the end of a thread on mobile. Which is pretty weird. The navigation is weird.
