If it was working as intended before, then the devs never read their own cards :p The BEES are doing the attacking, not the linecracker, so linecracker isn't supposed to grow when the bees suicide into him.
It was working as intended before, it just got borked by the patch. It's been fixed now, this person ran into a Linecracker Druid just a few hours ago:

The Overkill keyword has nothing to do with attacking. It is to do with dealing more damage than the opposing character (minion / player), on your turn. The fact people keep forgetting what the keyword actually does, rather than what they think it does, is why this misunderstanding keeps happening.
Overkill is an ability that activates whenever a card with the keyword deals damage to a character with less Health than the damage dealt during your turn.
Ew, no. I like Linecracker Druid, I don't want a really fun deck get destroyed just because an edge case was deemed 'unintuitive.'
They probably won't, though. Mass Hysteria came out in the same set, and it works the same way as Bees on Overkill. Blizzard has known about it since then, and would need a pretty good reason to change it, especially since it rotates to wild soon. Since there isn't anything broken that comes from the interaction, I doubt we'll see such a reason appear.
Ninja change or bug? Feels quite unnecessary tbh
No, Overkill as a whole mechanic has been borked by the patch. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon
Pretty sure it's a bug fix, but I haven't seen any documentation yet. It wasn't working as intended before.
Thats how that interaction was suposed to work, the devs confirmed it.

Edit: also just tried it myself. Still works just fine. Which is good, because I love Linecracker Druid

That should probably be changed by Blizzard. It leads to some extremely unintuitive situations like the one discussed above.
