I just had an experience and was wondering how often this happens to others.
Was playing mage against a priest, the game went on a while but he pulled a big move and was able to whoop me in the end. Afterwards, he sent me a friend request. I accepted, as I had fun but immediately he just started calling me stupid and making fun of me for not predicting his move (this is in ranked 17 btw; I am not good at this game (and I mean, at this rank he can't be all that good) but I enjoy playing). Then he unfriended me.
I'm the type of person who sends a greet emote, a well played at the end, a wow when something cool or unlikely happens, and an oops when I mess up. I friend people I have a good game with because I enjoyed the match and wanna play with you again in the future. ESPECIALLY if you beat me. I think you can help me get better.
This is just going above and beyond just to be a jerk.. And to be honest (though embarrassing to admit) it made me a bit sad for a sec. I thought we had both had fun, but apparently he was really riled up about it.
Is this something that happens often? I know a lot of people don't like emotes, and go ahead and squelch me if saying hi puts you on tilt (I don't agree with auto-squelching, but I'll defend to the death your right to do it), but how are you gonna take time out of your day to abuse someone you've already beaten?
Sore losers are bad, but HS seems rife with sore winners. I've played off and on for years, but it really seems like the community has become very toxic. Anyone else experience this?
Not sure if this is a troll post itself, but heck, I'll bite.
Fairly common occurrence depending on what deck you play and what rank. Very low and very high ranks seem carry the most salty hate add players. People love to hate on netdecks and tier 1 builds, and strangely enough I've noticed most of my hate adds came from netdeck players running the tier 1 flavor of the month.
The community is stuffed to the gills with complainers (I've been one on more than one occasion) and discontent opponents that can't accept a loss gracefully, but they don't often show their faces. Much like the cards you draw in a Hearthstone match, your opponents are randomly selected, so there's no pattern to it. Some days you get 5+ adds full of garbage and hate speech, some days you get none, and some days you get adds that are just "GG let's have a match again some time."
Don't let the hate get you down. If all this person has going for them is saying something awful or otherwise mean, that's less than nothing in value to you. Ignore them, report them (screenshot hate language if you are fast enough - sometimes they unfriend very fast or you forget), or ry to mess with them. Your call.
And if this is a troll post? Whatever. "Well played"

Rage quitting: the best way to ensure your opponent knows they beat a giant baby.
Happen way too much........I once had a guy ( who i'd beaten quite handily) add me to tell me that he hoped I got cancer and died. I reported him, but Blizzard just told me to not add people who I didn't know. Thanks for your help, HAHA.
BTW, add me, BigDaddy#13238 (and it's not BigDaddy because I think I'm amazing or special....It's because I'm overweight, and I have two girls, and I'm also the Dorm Dad to 42 highschool boys, and an International Boarding school (not all international, as we have about 45% domestic as well.
Had too many experiences myself where people want to send a friend request after a match (win or lose) only to berate and harass me. I've taken to just waiting at least 15 minutes to an hour to accept any such request so that the person has time to cool down, and probably even forget what they may have been upset about. There are now many people on my friend list that I've never even spoken to because most of them just seem to forget I'm there later. I won't worry about removing them unless they make themselves a problem, and I hope maybe some of them may even turn out to be decent people to play with.
Some people get frustrated by the card draws while their opponent draws the jackpot so they get angry when they don't have the answers to deal with things.
That's too bad. I friend request a lot of people after interesting games to comment (in a positive way) and they typically don't accept because they probably think I am going to trash talk or whine.
Definitely not a troll post; I'm genuinely surprised at how much the game has changed over the years into just a bunch of angry dudes trolling each other. Maybe my memory is spotty, but used to be everyone greeted each other and raging trolls were the exception, not the rule. I don't keep up with the meta (though I should probably Google some tips) and my decks aren't anything special. Just looking to have fun and find people who suck at a similar level to me to play with.
As a side note, I just played a game where the guy roped me every turn starting turn 1.. So I did it back. You're obviously not confident in your deck-- why would I give up an easy win? Toxicity breeds toxicity.. And that really sucks. I feel dirty. (I destroyed him btw :) )
Gotta agree with the League comment; that community became cancer after the game got big (started playing in open beta)... I'm tempted to say it's gotta be a bunch of younger kids who haven't learned how to be human yet, but maybe I'm just a dreamer.
Idk, I guess I just wanted to vent about it and see if others felt the same way. It's a total bummer that people can't just have fun with the game, or that "fun" to these guys is being a dick. I wish there was a troll server you get sent to for being a jerk too often where you just get matched with other trolls (as is the case with a lot of fighters nowadays).
Agreed! I genuinely wanna play with you, but because the standard is people are dicks, everyone is wary of making friends. I guess it's reflective of society in general-- stranger danger!
I really can't believe you are serious, OP. Every single day of my life, I see people making fun of others for whatever reason. Anyone can even see that on TV from time to time too, so I'm always surprised by this kind of posts.
Assholes are everywhere, but gladly, even when no one is perfect, well mannered people exist too, and somewhat they compensate each other. I really don't know which of these groups is the mayority, since there are not statistics about this topic (obviously XD), but I still love people in general, so if for some reason someone out there thinks this community is full of toxicity, I invite him or her to try to see the positive side of things, because not everything is bad about it and, believe me, it's worth believing in others, even on random people on the internet... It makes life more beautiful. :)

I'm not surprised assholes exist in general, I'm surprised at the sheer VOLUME of assholes. My observation is that the community used to suck way less. Just wondering how we got here, why everyone is so salty, and what exactly they get out of being a dick. I had a 2-3 year hiatus before reinstalling, so I guess I missed when it happened. Everyone seems to just have accepted it, and it's bizarre to you that I'm surprised to find being a dickhead is the norm. It wasn't always like this, and it really doesn't need to be the default. There will always be good people and players in the community, but it seems the scales tipped the other way a while ago and everyone's just gotta deal.

Dude, you're just seeing the negative side of things. I'm pretty sure not all the players send you friend requests to laugh at you, neither they rope you every single game. And guess what? Everyone could do it, everyone could be toxic with you, but that doesn't happen. Do you know why? Because the community is not full of assholes, it's actually a minority that makes you think so. But I don't blame you because of that, because sadly negative things tend to prevail in our heads, that's all.
Also, I must point out there is a big difference between being a real asshole and being unfriendly sometimes. We are not perfect, sometimes it's hard not to be jerks with some people because many things influence our behavior on a daily basis, after all we are full of emotions, but you must be sure many of us try to be as good as possible every single day, and I'm being serious about this.
As I said before, I have no statistics about how many 100% assholes live on this world, but if I have to do a guess, they must be a minority. ;)
I feel like you just aren't hearing what I'm saying, and just keep repeating the same thing. I never said it's assholes all the way down. Please take a deep breath and know I'm not talking about you. I am simply expressing the simple observation that the toxicity of the community seems to have greatly increased in the past years. I've been back at it for only a month or so, but the sheer number of people spamming threaten, roping me all game, etc. has skyrocketed. I'm not trying to offend you, I'm just curious who else feels this way. I understand that you don't feel this way. Thank you for your input.

Probably the most toxic community I've ever experienced.
You've never played LoL it seems. ;)
You probably never played any FPS game

Cancer vs Cancer
Usually, after a game it is clear whether a dude is burning or a happy friend inc, I accept only if I assume second case.

This is the only truly toxic comment in this thread for now. Only one. Just one...
Again, not everyone behave as assholes all the time, OP, it's only a minority. ;)
