U talk like a man from dark ages...if 100kk ppl are well against 10k non well we are still winning man...we don't have to feel guilty for people that choose their own path... EDIT: Find a doctor.
1- Yup. I give up. Sorry but I can't compare myself to peasants from 100 years ago that died to a common cold to encourage myself that the world is beautiful now.
2- You're the optimistic guy. Ok great. You see that with 10 dollars from today you could have bought a house 100 years ago. I see that a guy above you said that he learns more from movies and games than from books. Talk about qed.
3- Btw that article is cute but in all it's cuteness forgets to mention that Rokefeller's fortune from those days would equal in todays money to a few trilion dollars. He would be the richest man alive by far today. But okay I get it. A dude with 5k dollars per month today is richer than the richest man that lived 100 years ago. Yay!!! We done good. But while he may be richer he can't own a palace, a few cars, a few companies, etc.
4- I was only saying that except USA and Eu and a handful of countries like Japan, Australia, etc. the rest of the world is in a pretty shitty spot. Hunger, lack of water, lack of medical care, slavery, villages and whole cities without electricity or running water and many more issues that guess what? Are the same issues from 100 years ago.
5- So while you, me, the dude from earlier that educates himself from movies and games, and like 40% of the population is in the 21st century, in our own bubble, the other 60% still lives in the 20th century.
6- I said that I give up. You see the good, I see the good too, but I also see the bad and for me the bad is more important. If 7 billion people today live a better life than Rockefeller did but 1 dude dies from hunger somewhere the world is not right.
7- You're the optimist. I'm the pessimist. We can't convince each other. So...have a good life. So will I btw.
1- Well, if facts like mass education instead few members of noble people learning write and read, vacination instead childrens die because infection diseases in large scale, for the first time in history obesity is a problem for more people than starvation don't serve to show a better world then it is hard to have a discussion about it, maybe the world is not beautiful now but you have to admit a least is much less ugly than before.
2- Well, I am a niilist guy, for me the life, the human existence have no purpose at all, the empty and the indiference is all the nature and the universe radiate after we remove our subject decorations, but this don't change the fact the quality of human life improved a lot in last centuries.
3- A few trilion dollars can't safe him or anyone in many situations modern medicine can save a lot of people with much less money, the life expectative almost doubled...
4- With the exception of people living in the horror of Socialism and Islam all are improved in comparison to the past. I am brazilian, my country is full of problems, but almost 100% of the people can learn to read and write and have acess to vacines, that fact alone put the life quality a lot ahead to the majority of places in the past, remember, people are sell as slaves in public places even in the countrys more advanced, compared to that the modern world don't look so bad.
5- Don't take my bad english to judge my education, it is not my natural language.
6- Your expectations are not reasonable, put human society and civilization in a fair perspective, we life in a savage world where all live beings fight for survive with violence, in this enviroment I don't think we are so bad.
7- Not optimist or pessimist, realist is the correct term.

See the 00:00 to 2:00 because i am really bored to type. And my friend it's hasn't to do so much with optimism vs pessism but with realism. Sure there is a lot and i mean A LOT of misery but the improvements we have seen are INSANE!And do not forget that nuclear fusion, 3d printing and other awesome technologies are at the doorstep (1 to 2 decades)! We crazy scientists shall finally rule the world!MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

Jesus Christ... I didn't say I educate myself from movies and games. I just said good movies and video games USUALLY teach people more about life and history than MANY books out there. There are many amazing books out there too and some of them are a pleasure to read, but, dude, you can't deny a lot of great movies and video games based on real history events made many people much more curious about these episodes. A perfect example of this is Brave Heart, an historically inacurrate movie who despite that inspired millons to read about Scotland and England history, aswell as being super interested on the events that happened during the medieval age. Another examples are the Age of Empires and Total War video games. Their influence on the gamer community has been so obvious to everyone through all these years that I'm pretty sure there is no need to explain anything about them here. ;)
Again, good movies and video games usually encourage people to investigate about certain topics like nothing else does (well, maybe some series and songs do the same :P) and that is a fact you can't deny. ;)

This is like to say:
"All cars sucks because don't reach light speed".
If your expectations are too high the problem is not the reality can't reach your fantasies, the problem is your expectations.

Sobrano is already using hyperbole, which is very funny. People who resorts to such a thing during a conversation/discussion usually don't have enough convincing and logical arguments to prove their point.
