For making comments calling for the liberation of Hong Kong from Chinese oppression, Blitzchung has been kicked out of grandmasters, will receive none of his winnings and is banned from competitive, pro play for the next year. Do you think this is a fair decision from Blizzard? Should they be banning pro players for reasons such as this?
I couldn't see the interview and in the link is merely stated that he and two other players have violated one of blizzard's tournament rules. But if it is just because of the comments in the OP, this calls for a shitstorm. Unfortunately, I cannot watch less hearthstone (I dont watch it at all any more) nor play less (I switched to magic arena). But it ensures that i do not come back.
Though it is in Chinese. Basically, he said "Liberate Hong Kong, the revolution of our times." They even fired the casters who happened to be in the shot as well.
This is a really poor decision for Blizzard. People forget that the Chinese government today is still the very same political party of Mao Zedong. His reign single handedly destroyed the country, eradicated most of the beautiful Chinese culture, and killed between 60 to 80 million people. While the progress of the Chinese economy has been nothing short of phenomenal over the last 20 years it doesn't change the fact the Chinese Communist Party runs the country unopposed. Criticism of the government is still illegal today - just one of the myriad ways they continue to oppress the Chisese people. Those who think they have it tough in the US under Trump are living in Lala Land and have no idea what oppression actually is.
In China they have implemented a social credit score along with mass surveillance of the population using hundreds of thousands of facial recognition cameras to monitor and control the people. Not a fan of the ruling party? Oh well, you get a low social credit score. What happens when you have a low score? Can't buy train or plane tickets. Can't have a bank account.
This is a truly stupid move from Blizzard and it shows once again the power of money. Trump gets a lot of flack for a number of things, some it truly deserved but his trade war with China is needed. They are slowly taking over the world in a financial sense - owning foreign companies, subsidizing local business to allow them to destroy global competition in order to 'win' on the global markets, and have little regard for things like intellectual property law.
People have little to no idea just how evil the CCP is. I absolutely love classical Chinese culture that gave us martial arts, chi gung, and Chinese philosophy like the tao de ching and the i ching. But the CCP is very very far from that.
Of all the things Blizzard have done in the past, this has upset me the most by some distance. To ban a player and essentially confiscate his earnings for criticizing an oppressive regime is one example of how effed up things are in the world today.
Bad move Blizzard. This shows without doubt that no value is placed on anything other than money. What about valuing diversity? Morals? A sense of democracy and fairness? Different points of view? Nope, we'll just take the money thank you.
I think this may be the first time I've actually been triggered by something. Disgusting. No other words for it.
Let me make this crystal clear: FUCK YOU BLIZZARD you dirty pieces of shit. Utter scumbags bending over backwards for an authoritarian regime with an absolutely atrocious record on human rights. I hope this costs you a fortune.
Although I understand our desire for a company like Blizzard to 'make a stand', it's an extremely hot topic at the moment. From their point of view, a tournament of this scale is NOT the place for political combat, even if we can fully support the points made. That's why these rules are here, to avoid someone saying something actually harmful. They have to enforce rules like this with a zero-tolerance approach.
Again, I hate what's going on in Hong Kong, and even though I wished that Blizzard was able to do something meaningful here, they just can't. I know I'm probably going to get backlash for this, but realistically, this was the only decision that Blizzard could make; Blitzchung forced their hand.

U KILL ONE HK CLOWN to not upset NET EASE worth of millions and BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to farm and milk hmmm let me think about that?
SACRIFICE THE CLOWN OR HOW MANY OTHER CLOWNS NEED TO BE SACRIFICED Blizzard games MUST PENETRATE CHINA with no stigma LUL hahahahahhaa it's obvious and EASY why it doesn't even violate terms of service or what ever doesn't say u can't say your political views LUL i like blizzards stance to keep things oppressed dunno cuz you know everything for mother china :D
This is incredibly depressing. Hearthstone more recently became the main game I play and stream. I'm not sure what to do to express my sentiment to the company short of no longer playing the game, but I very much disagree with this. They receive political pressure on the other side, lets give it to them from this side as well.
So you ppl are mad cuz he decided to call for revolution on their stream about a (childrens')card game and they didnt like it? You rly think what he did was right by any shape or form seriously? And not to mention he did state what he state while knowing the tours rules and what would happen if he did so. Im not sure why you are mad at blizzard for doing what they say they would do if that happened, its their tour, their stream and politics have no place in such events anyway
Agree with you. Blizzard did the right thing. In the so-called e-sports scene, there should be no place for such political phrases. If bliztchung protests on the HK street and says those slogans, it is totally fine. But here, the interview is about gaming, not politics.

Anything for that Chinese cash.
Blizzard aren't even a shadow of their former self. The sooner the company sinks, the better.

Also the casters are being `kicked`. Who were they?

Friendly reminder that the Chinese government is currently involved in state-sponsored organ harvesting of those it deems undesirable.
The whole world should be on the Hong Kong protestors side for liberation from these monsters in complete and utter unity.
Well here is my Spam for next GM.
Doesnt give a shit about democracy

Mobile execution vans you say? What a time to be alive.
Screw Blizzard, they’ll do anything for that Chinese cash. We already knew they were a greedy, grubby company, but this takes the biscuit.
Vote with your Wallet and dont preorder the next expansion . Thats what i will do.
Blizzard needs a good spanking since 2010. They think their community are brainless zombies who doesn't give a fuck about anything other than gaming.

They took a whole year to ban Roger for cheating twice but banned Blitzchung in 3 days.
