Is it worth coming back after such a long hiatus? I quit right near the end of Gadgetzan before Un'Goro released. I have pretty much everything worth having up until Un'Goro. Will I need to break the bank to become competitive again? Or would it just be good to rejoin and just mess around a little in Wild?
I would jump into that for now, get packs and start on competitive when the next expansion comes out. Until then you can always keep playing your favourite old decks in wild with new cards you get.

The metagame in HS has been degrading for a few expansions in a row now. Blizzard has pushed most classes in standard into only having 1-2 viable decks and the archtypes are mostly the same. The new quests make you feel like a robot playing your cards in order to gain some effect over and over again and the current state of standard is one of extreme high-rolling (a LOT of matches are decided in the first 1-3 turns and the guy who draws better wins pretty much). If you are a control players it's even worse, because the only really viable control deck is CW atm and that deck is more boring to play than watching paint dry.
If you are just going for messing around in wild a bit, sure, but keep in mind wild is void of any sort of balance and Blizzard has repeatedly shown they do not know how to restore it, they nerf the cards that should not be nerfed and do not nerf the cards that clearly do need a nerf. Be prepared for a lot of highrolling there too and decks steamrolling you on turn 3/4.
If i'm honest your time is better spent on other cardgames or just other games in general right now. The people that have left Blizzard and were in the HS team appareantly have made a big impact and the current HS team is just not on the ball at all.

I’d have to agree. I’m playing less and less and it’s been a good move. So many cool games, especially indie. Even that crazy Untitled Goose Game is hilarious and awesome to play. Lately I’ve been into that and Undermine, a pretty sweet game that has endless hours of fun. For $15.
No it's not. All of us playing hate this stale imba meta and the one before it and the one coming up. We are all just hopelessly addicted and hate our own lives more when the game is off. Be better than us and break the chain, Aevalis.

It's worth it to try all the solo content.

You can play wild just fine, a lot of decks haven't changed that much since
Skidaddle skidoodle your Milhouse manastorm is now a noodle
Wait... there is solo content now? Interesting...
Honestly, the answer is going to be no.

Yea indie is definitely better, I'm loving slay the spire and enter the gungeon!

Well, he has lost 6exp. Unless he plays Jade, he is missing all the rest of the decks
