Against a ragnaros, I'm offered explosive shot, ancient of war, and black knight, without any option to remove the most threatening minion on the board.
Once again, Zephrys is not designed to give you an out for every option on the board, nor is it designed to always give you lethal. You have to actually do some of the work yourself rather than expecting the AI to play the game for you. Zephrys chooses from a large pool of cards to give you an answer to something / anything that is currently on the board. Since Ragnaros can't attack, it makes sense that Zephrys doesn't give you the option you specifically wanted there, because there were more immediate threats on the board to deal with (such as the 5/5 taunt). By being played, Zephrys has already given a means of soft-dealing with Ragnaros by being another target.
If you wanted Shadow Word: Death, then yuo needed to force that from Zephrys by making sure you have 3 mana left open when he is played. There are plenty of streamer videos that go over how to play Zephrys properly on YouTube.
On turn 9, use your Hero Power first so that after playing Zephrys you'll have 5 mana and he will smell Ragnros' sexy attack stat and offer you a Big Game Hunter.
Alternatively as stated above, get your mana to 3 by playing Bog Slosher on your Zola, Glacial Shard on his Thing from Below, then Zephrys and he will offer SW:D.
Zephrys is your friend but he needs a little guidance sometimes because he is actually a piece of virtual cardboard and not a galaxy brain hearthstone expert.
Yeah, I don't understand how people still don't know how Zephrys is supposed to work. Refer to the videos out there. It is not a 'I win' card unless of course the opponent is close to death. Or you have a full board of minions and need that Bloodlust.
On my turn 9, I played it with 2 mana left so he gave me a choice of the 10 damage Mage spell, Pyroblast. That's what I needed to win and next turn I did. If I played it earlier in the turn, he may not have spotted that lethal and therefore that would be a misplay on my part.
Basically, Zephrys requires you to know how he generally works and not assume he is going to win you the game for free.

u really believe in that? Most of time this shit card offer lethal and mass destruction against me. Edit: Many other players are being crushed by this shit design, so I guess zephrys still broken even if the op didn't got any good card in his replay.
I kind of see what you're saying. The 8/8 is clearly the biggest threat and it didn't give an answer for that. . Keep in mind Zeph usually doesn't offer three of the same kinds of cards unless you're in a terrible spot. He usually tries to give you something proactive, reactive, and tempo swingy. I would have rather have big game hunter in that spot even if it was just a vanilla 8/8 but black knight uses your mana better and has more stats than BGH. If you would have hero powered first then you get BGH for sure.

What are you talking about Zephrys doesn't see card text. It just sees an 8/8, it has nothing to do with whether it can attack or not.

"This card made me lose so it must be overpowered" is never usually a good place to start an argument from. There are also plenty of professional players who have spoken at length on Zephrys and when it is good, and how best to utilise it to your advantage. Kripparian being one of the most notable - he has done a whole series of videos on the subject. There is a wealth of evidence and examples of how to use it if you do a search on YouTube, etc. And also, plenty of evidence in videos like Trolden, Daily Moments and the like, of players who don't seem to know how to make the card work for them, or seem to think: If I play this card then it will obviously find me lethal and I will win....
I think the Zephrys offering a "perfect" card is only true if you are slated to win the game, since the games have mostly pre-determined who would win;
For example - in a game my opponent and I both had developed a pretty big board, he plays Zephrys and is offered FlameStrike to clear my board... On my following turn I play Zephrys and I'm offered Blizzard, Frost Nova and Ancient of War ... Blizzard would have only killed his Zephrys, his other minions only had 3 or 4 hp.. I had enough mana left to flame strike but wasn't even given it as an option. I just considered it a 'tell' that I wasn't meant to win that game.
Presumably, the OP knows that Zephrys needs to be "helped" in order to influence his choices. If the OP had bothered trading into the enemy Taunt totem, and using his Hero Power before playing Z, he would have restricted Z's choices - with only 5-mana available, Z would have offered BGH instead of BK. The OP gave Z 7-mana to work with, despite knowing that there aren't any single-target removal options at 7-mana - so Z responded by giving him the most expensive option available, in order to make the most efficient use of the mana the OP gave him.
In general, it's simply pilot error to simply drop a blind Z, rather than help the fellow out - it's up to the OP to decide whether he wants to learn anything from it . . .
Zephrys needs to be "helped" in order to influence his choices.
An example for this: Tonight I had an even shaman as opponent, who had 3 or 4 minions with 2 HP on the board and played a Flamewreathed Faceless (7/7 Stats). On my side was a 5/5, I had 6 Mana and Zephrys in my hand. Following considerations:
a) Playing Zephrys now would have offered me a SW:Death for the 7/7, but all other minions would stay. b) I decided to trade my 5/5 into the 7/7, which now had 2 HP left. Then I played Zephyrs, because I wanted a Consecration. -> I got it and could clerar the enemy board fully.
So think about 1) what you want to get and 2) how you get it -> how you have to manage your board and mana to get Zephrys giving you exactly the card you wish.
when will players learn not to rely on AI? basically you trust some random ass AI where you have no idea how it really works more than your own intellect. goes to show enough
Lmao some people here trying to make excuses for the shitty AI. Zephrys has fucked me over as well several times, most noteworthy example being not offering shadow word death when opponent has Antonidas on board. It's one of those cards that if it's not immediately removed on your next turn, you will basically lose the game from there, similar to Ragnaros.

S39 Legend - Quest Rogue, S38 Legend - Murloc Paladin, S37 Legend - Miracle Rogue, S36 Top 200 Legend - Aggro Shaman, S35 - Finished Rank 51 Legend - Aggro Shaman, S34 Legend - Aggro Shaman
There there.
Probably because Rags can't attack.

Pretty sure it’s not as refined for Wild.

I would have managed to have 4 mana left when playing Zephrys (play Bog Slosher before). Then you have a huge chance for a (4) Hex.
I think Zephrys was shadow nerfed after last updates

Dead but dreaming
learn to play without bladant help by AI, you lost because you deserved, with Zephyr help you could win without deserving it.
