I'm a collector so I haven't done it myself yet but I can very well understand why people do this. I myself only play standard so there's really no point in keeping rotated cards other than collecting. However, this is a very expansive game and I buy myself one or two pre-orders each time. But If you can't afford it, dusting is the best way to be able to keep playing standard.
Ugh, just the thought of dusting my Wild cards makes me feel ill! I put a lot of effort (and money!) into my collection a few years ago and have a lot of golden cards from GvG, Naxx, and the earlier sets eg Golden Emperor T, Belchers, Shielded Minibot, Muster, Shredder's, Azure Drakes, Auctioneers, Loatheb, Dr Boom, Nerubian Eggs, Reno, Kazakus, and much, much more. I've sinced stopped crafting gold cards because it's insanely expensive but unlike most players here I actually enjoy Wild so I still get to use these cards when I want to.
I feel for people who have to dust all Wild cards just to keep up with Standard rotations. If I were in that position I would probably quit playing the game. It wouldn't be enjoyable for me. HS Is a ridiculously expensive game and I get that not everyone is in a position to drop hundreds of $ a year just to keep up with Standard. At least you have the option of dusting older cards to craft new ones but it's a game of diminishing returns and eventually you will have to part with some cash of play several hours a day just to get a decent deck together. I just couldn't do it though...
I love wild. You can keep up with the meta cheaply, it's much more diverse than standard and you your collection grows all the time. I'd never dust mi wild cards and am happy to be able to escape to wild as soon as standard bores me.

I am not paying Blizzard. I don't want to support what it does.
I might be sort of a collector and dusting cards felt bad but difference was between being unable to play at all and being unable to play Wild.
I never dust classic cards.

Missing lethal since June 2015.
LOL, Wild is much cheaper than Standard, if you can't realise that, I am sorry for you
