I'm not sure I've ever seen a more blatant display of loss of perspective.
"Hearthstone is a toxic video game" OR "Hearthstone has a toxic community" are statements that only have meaning as comparisons. In other words, if Hearthstone is exactly as toxic as every other video game, then the statement "Hearthstone is a video game" is no more or less descriptive. Therefore, if we're having this discussion, we must mean, to some greater or lesser extent, that Hearthstone is a MORE toxic video game or has a MORE toxic community than one would find in any other walk of entertainment or fandom.
While it is impossible to make an objective statement about such a nebulous concept as toxicity, it is possible to make objective statements about evidence. Given that there is no open chat function, and given that emote usage translating into toxic messages is a completely subjective experience in and of itself, Hearthstone has the LEAST incidence of toxic behavior under any reasonable definition of the phrase among all competitive games I've ever seen.
Think about it. Hearthstone is one of the only games I've ever seen where the default setting is, "there is no way to make a toxic statement to one's opponent". One has to invite comment from an opponent before he can speak at all. Compare this state to Starcraft, where you have a one-on-one chat function. Compare this to League of Legends, where you start the game in a position to be not only ridiculed, but occasionally rendered completely unable to change the outcome of the game because a teammate might not like your top lane choice and starts inting from the beginning of the game.
The idea that Hearthstone is even on the same plane of opportunity for toxicity compared to the aforementioned games and many, many others is absurd on its face.
I understand there will be folks that are so delicate, they find it overwhelming to not have an "auto-squelch", thus risking the possibility of a "Hello there!" making it through the carefully crafted bubbles of solace they enjoy, but don't mistake those sorts of immense hardships from the immense community issues faced by hundreds of other games. This is as close to a safe space as you will ever see in an adversarial, competitive multiplayer game.
I will say that threads like this shed direct light on something else I was confused over in this forum: the pervasive fear around accepting friend requests after matches. I suppose if there are people who seriously believe the anonymous, no-impact interaction between players in game warrants a discussion of toxicity, then those same people would never in a million years risk actual text interaction.
Apologies if some of the above comes off as sarcastic, but it's unrelentingly disappointing to know that folks who share my hobbies are this neurotic.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
The Hearthstone community is incredibly toxic. I literally just had a guy add me in CASUAL after he WON so he could call me a loser. After I player Jaraxxus from Zephyrs for FUN. What a fantastic guy. It is pretty clear who the real loser is. LUL
I really want to apologize for some times when the opponent gets god-awful RNG, but it sucks when a good portion of the Heroes have such sarcastic-sounding voice lines. Like, Jaina's "Whoops" sounds so fake and I feel bad for even using it.

The matchmaking system for wild and standard is pretty toxic.
People love to bring their stupid aggro decks into casual modes in both, and I usually see a copy + pasted standard deck on wild ladder sometimes. People just farm wins and stop having fun, makes it hard to enjoy the cards that aren't necessarily "competitive" but fun.
What is the point in playing a dragon warrior or paladin with wild cards if you just face off against aggro that kills you or copy paste control or bomb warrior?
I don't really want to hear that this is how people test decks. You don't need to farm gold in those modes to practice your deck.
On top of that, the game is extremely expensive. If you have spent hundreds of dollars on your decks, but are still losing to bad RNG, it feels even worse.
... If you view the game as casual fun, and probably don’t spend money on it, it becomes much more enjoyable and less toxic. Don’t take Hearthstone too seriously.
Ironically, I found that to be the opposite for me. Back in 2017 during KFT, I quit HS over "bullsh*t RNG". I was totally F2P at the time, so every loss was effectively like a loss of income.
Because I was F2P, my time in-game was literally valuable.
Fast-forward to today, and I'm having a much better experience now after returning this summer. I spend about $150 on each expansion, and I have never felt better about winning or losing or even not playing at all!
That's because my IRL time is orders of magnitude more valuable. Instead of feeling the need to grind for hours in-game for what amounts to pennies, I can work one extra weekend IRL and pay for the entire expansion twice over. (And let's not forget to mention how I can now enjoy my time even more playing any deck I want now.)
For me, separating business and pleasure made all the difference.

I instantly squelch every opponent I play and could care less how many times they emote or top deck a card and wiin . It’s a 30 card game with 80 percent of those cards duplicated so it’s really a 18-19 card game with linear turn based play. The game is simpleton at its core and is filled with rng. After collecting every card in the game and making legend rank numerous times there is nothing left to do but the quest and log out. I’ve wasted my fair share of time playing the game and have seen my share of losses due to rng but at the end of the day it’s a meaningless game in the grand scheme of my life. Too bad for most of the community it is their life and that’s why they get so shitty. I’d love to see a permanent squelch option and have wanted this for years but I would t expect the geniuses who bring us SoU to put that in the game. Til then I just click that portrait.

I love how some people on this thread blatantly blame all people of being toxic while excluding themselves from the problem, as if they were some kind of alien from a distant planet (probably from K-Pax XD) and not human. XD XD XD
That was a miss...
The day Blizzard adds an auto-squelch option in settings will be a great day

So what do you call the folks at Blizzard?
I maintain servers. Post nullified.
