So a new Hearthstone expansion will be released in less than two weeks or so. The excitement is reaching all their players and all streamers will come back again and the game will be popular again...but i have the feeling that this idea, which in the past worked really well, nowadays is fading out.
The main problem with the game can be related with the metagame...or not? Let's see all the game modes that hearthstone offers:
- Ladder: Rather Standard/Wild, this is the core of the game. You play until you reach legend or until you give or bored up.
- Arena: The idea is brilliant, but it can be expensive (150g every new one) and you must be really good in order to earn succulent rewards
- Brawls: Each week a new brawl is released. It is nice and fun, until you get the pack. Then you play it like two or three times (or not) and leave it.
- Adventures/Expansion GM: Since the last adventure (ONIK), every new expansion Blzz decide to release a thematic expansion game mode. Since K&C (and except TBP), this game mode is almost the same. And the reward you get once you finished it is a card back.
What i am trying to say is that Blizzard will not make the game great again only with expansions. From all the four game modes, the most played (and by far) is ladder, and you do not have any other source of daily fun except that. And the reward in there became meaningless after 6 years.
I was excited when they said that the tournament mode will be released, yet they stopped that project because...
But rather than that, no other new source of a new game mode was ever considered. And your players are always complaining about the metagame since its your only concern with the game. And with every new expansion, Blzz cover their flaws and the metagame problems (also the balance changes - not so frecuent)
I want to say it again: After 6 years, I want to see real changes, changes that make me feel that every spent hour will be as amazing as it was for the first time I started playing this game. Naxx added the adventures, and BRM the Tavern Brawls. Since then, new game modes weren't added. Every new expansion only changes the decks that are meant to be played, but not the gameplay, which is why people is leaving the game, imo. And trust me, with this new fresh air, the earnings will rise up too. So stop worrying about money and start worrying about actual HS state.
I agree, I think tournament mode really could have breathed life into the game, and it's a shame they halted development on it. i think the game's in an okay spot, but to really bring back masses of players they're gonna have to do something huge, like a super expansion with twice the cards, or something to dramatically shake up the game
Best change you can make is to find another game because obviously you aren't getting what you want out of this one. There are thousand upon thousands of games out there. Have fun finding one you like and best of luck. These posts just complaining do nothing and are absolutely useless. No one cares what you think. Go find a support group. They will listen to your feelings.
They should think in new game modes that gives the game the twist it needs. The tournament mode was excited, as i said, but there might be others. A multi co-op game mode, perhaps? New arena modes based on the build-your-deck adventures? A "custom" ladder playstyle in which you can only play with two-three expansions that were released that year and every month they change it? It would be great to play with, for example, only basic cards and Naxx+Frozen Throne, or something similar. Or themed ladder games in which every week a theme is banned, for example: random cards, elementals, draw-a-card...A story mode based on WoW for beginners where they can earn a card/pack?
There are others for sure, others that I could not think of or my experience would not give me, to be honest. As you said, saying it is a problem will not solve anything. I am just asking for new game modes to the desginers, since that is their job. If not, they should ask its audience. A guy created DOTA based on Warcraft 3 (and many other were created based on W3 as well), and another created Autochess games based on DOTA (Moba games), and so on. But staying in a comfort zone based on expansions releases will not solve the problem that many players are leaving the game, rather if it is for a month or definitively, neither the fact that the game is mostly ladder and that's it.
Here are all the modes: Brawl - A Different one each week and most of the time new ones along with Holiday events and the occasional Co-op ones. You said it was their job and seems they do it with all the brawls they bring us consistently and now 7 days a week. People do play it more than just once for the pack as why there is NO wait time when you queue up for a match. Some brawls are more popular than others.
Arena - Rotating sets of cards and consistent improvements. Quite popular.
Wild - Casual Mode and Ranked Mode
Standard - Casual Mode and Ranked Mode
Adventures - I think we are up to three different adventures now.
Puzzle mode - Which was quite fun.
Expansions. Every threemonths you get over 130 NEW CARDS and a new adventure too.
Heck, they even have a Tavern Brawl mode for when people meet up to play in the same space.
As for the new players well going from rank 50 on down they get A LOT of quests for free packs and lots of gold which is on top of the basic cards they get free of charge.
All of that for freakin' free if you don't want to pay a single shiny penny for any of it.
How much more do you want from a card game?? Talk about feeling entitled. Go make your own and come up with new ways to play more than Blizzard has. Some of your ideas were ones used in Brawls or Arena and nothing new or innovative. Already in the game. You want something different then at least come up with something original.
It comes down to what I said before. You need to find a new game. You have burned out on Hearthstone. This is what you get. This is what you will always get. It is a CCG. Go play something else.
The argument of "Go play something else" makes no sense. Thanks to that, games like Diablo 3 and Heroes of the Storm were set aside, with small patches and small changes for the game. And with that, the tendency shows that HS is getting the same way.
It seems that you didn't read my first post, otherwise you would have seen that my post wasn't salty at all. What I am saying is a matter that the own Blizzard is concern: people is leaving its game, the game is less popular and the competitive scene is decreasing (that happens to HOTS and look at the game right now). And the changes they are doing doesn't have the impact they were hoping for.
After 6 years and not a great amount of risks taken by Blzz, what i want from the game is a change. Yes, they add a new brawl every week, the arena have rotations (regarding popularity, i would like to know how many players enter more than one arena per week) and every 5 months or so the release a new expansion. However, those are inconsistent changes. They have been doing this since 2015, 4 years ago.
Jeez, Synthetik, it's like someone insulted your mother. You really need to relax a little, it's just a light criticism suggesting new game modes in order to spice things up a bit. People make these wacky forum sites so that folks can talk about the games they play, complain sometimes, praise sometimes, et cetera. You're like a certain president I know - it's ok to criticize stuff, that whole "if you don't like every single thing about it, get out" is just so thick-headed and nasty.
Hang in there Synthetik, it will all be ok, criticism doesn't kill, just see your therapist and talk it out :)
Yeah the OP wasn’t complaining at all, but I guess hate and vitriol are what you can expect from a user named Synthetikmisery. He has to make up reasons to be miserable. Sounds like a sad way to live.
Just add achievements already... gosh such simple yet great thing to have in a video game. Add guilds/clans. Add events to casual play, something like anomaly mode. This is what I would like to see in hearthstone.
Wouldn't the OP's problem be solved by simply making weekly TBs competitive? Give the TBs their own weekly mini-ladder, with weekly rewards based on how high you've climbed. Fifty new competitive play-modes every year - problem solved?
If not, I'd suggest that the OP simply reconsider whether his own expectations are remotely realistic - after all, his angry demand that a game he's played for six years should be "as amazing as it was the first time I started playing" is pretty ridiculous. The sentence barely even makes sense - he's six years older, and he's not a goldfish with a two-minute memory, so a lot of his likes and dislikes will simply be different. If he's finding out that he doesn't like HS as much as he did six years ago, that doesn't mean that HS is doing something wrong - the devs are doing more cool shit this year than ever before - it just means that the OP's preferences have changed. It's honestly no big deal - don't be angry about it, and just figure out where your new interests take you . . .
I agree, I think tournament mode really could have breathed life into the game, and it's a shame they halted development on it. i think the game's in an okay spot, but to really bring back masses of players they're gonna have to do something huge, like a super expansion with twice the cards, or something to dramatically shake up the game
I don’t think so tournament mode is for a select few people to play. And maybe streamers but no one else most people are like me casual and play not a lot.
So a new Hearthstone expansion will be released in less than two weeks or so. The excitement is reaching all their players and all streamers will come back again and the game will be popular again...but i have the feeling that this idea, which in the past worked really well, nowadays is fading out.

- Brawls: Each week a new brawl is released. It is nice and fun, until you get the pack. Then you play it like two or three times (or not) and leave it. Complained about Brawls not being replayable.
- Adventures/Expansion GM: Since the last adventure (ONIK), every new expansion Blzz decide to release a thematic expansion game mode. Since K&C (and except TBP), this game mode is almost the same. Just an overall complaint about the state of Hearthstone and people leaving
The entire post is a complaint and shows someone not very happy with the game in any way. I am all for fair criticisms but this kid doesn't like anything about the game and complained about every part of it so yeah. Seems he doesn't like the game and would be better off finding something else to play. Doesn't seem like anything would please him.
The argument of "Go play something else" makes no sense. Thanks to that, games like Diablo 3 and Heroes of the Storm were set aside, with small patches and small changes for the game. And with that, the tendency shows that HS is getting the same way. Complaint about Blizzard and how they manage games while ignoring the continued popularity of WoW, OW, SC also ignoring that Diablo 3 is a game with a start and an end and not competitive play.
Complaint about the changes and additions that were made to Hearthstone but at least now he does admit that devs do add things to HS but he just doesn't like them.
After 6 years and not a great amount of risks taken by Blzz, what i want from the game is a change. I've played mostly the new adventure last months as the ladder is boring as hell, or at least I've lost interest to current meta. Maybe that changes in next few weeks..
The idea of the post was to argue about the status of the game and if it was only me who saw that the game is losing its essence and if Blzz is running out of ideas.
Rkaah, i never worked on a game before, for obvious reasons. In fact, I believe that most of us never worked on a videogame either. Pulling new modes after 6 years and after the data they are getting from the game seems more realistic than it looks like. In fact, those are some of the reasons that every company used to change their products. However, as you said, I do not work on videogames, so maybe my point of view is incorrect and the status of the game is nice.
Haussenfuss, you are correct. My preferences have changed, so maybe I cannot expect more from the game since it is what it is. I just launched a post to know if i was the only one who thinks that the actual status of the game looks pretty similar no matter the expansion they release.
Synthetikmisery,I do not get your anger. I'll say it again, I was just giving my point of view from the status of the game. I didn't say that the game is boring. I said that the game feels like doesn't change that much since many years ago and that might be a reason for a lot of players to leave. If you think that HS is perfectly fine, I would like to hear it out, but do not treat me like an idiot or a cryer, since that wasn't the goal from my post. And you didn't give me a reason to change my mind, while I did. And twice.

I already suggested a solution.

OP clearly has never worked on a game before. Pulling new modes out of your ass whenever a few people get bored isn’t realistic at all.

Arena rewards are a lot of things, but succulent is not one of them.
