the only card i will miis is headcrack old old animation, i liked the new secretkeeper and harpy art, deadly shot and headcrack new arts feel kinda to colorfull for me.
Did they actually say it was because of China? After all, it's not like Americans would ever, ever be prudes whenever it comes to breasts, even in cartoon form...
If it was just TnA mayb it could just be an internal decision, but the blood and gore censorship is what puts it into the sick man of asia territory.
Honestly, Hearthstone has never objectified the male form to anywhere near the degree it has done so with the female; the old art was pretty one-sided and sexist. If they had been more even-handed with their titillating depictions in the past, I might have been more annoyed by this self-censorship.
However, I can only see this as a long-needed course correction. Another alternative would be to sexify a bunch of the male art, but if toning down the girly pics makes the game more palatable in certain markets, it was probably the better move.
You can still play HS and have your porn running on another monitor if you absolutely must do both at once.
This post is like a cavalcade of cliche's, double standards and needless "Marge Simpson" puritanism.

How is it puritanical to say I would have been OK with them making sexier males instead of toning down the female art?
What I wasn't OK with was the one-sided representation.

If there are "sexist" female characters in Blizz games, there are "sexist" male characters as well
Well that claim would put the burden of proof on you. I have never been turned on by any male character in Hearthstone so please do tell me which ones of them are being objectified in the game.
It seems you didn`t understand my argument. I say there is no sexist characters in HS. But if someone claims there are sexist female characters, I want an explanation why these characters should be sexist and why the criteria which make these characters sexist don`t aplly to male characters as well.
It's not that representations of the female body are inherently sexist. No one is claiming that, and shame on you for putting words in my mouth.
My claim was that when a game contains sexualized representations of ONLY women and NOT men, the game overall is sexist. Where is the Incubus card? Where is the male "Secretholder" wearing very tight clothing with his ass turned provocatively toward the viewer?

I will say the new art is actually worse. Felstalker is okay, but between it and succubus I'll definitely take succubus. Queen of pain is overdesigned to the point of being generic asian mmo enemy. Can't say I like old Mistress of pain art though, as it has rather dubious anatomy. Windfury Harpy is okay, but old art was better. Secret Keeper is a huge step down. The old art looks great compared to new one. The new one has notably worse colors and dynamic (the hair is overly bushy). The utterly generic pose does not help either. Bite is actually good, except maybe it does not feel like what "Bite" should look like, but I digress. Deadly shot and Headcrack are the worst offenders. Rich, detailed and impactful deadly shot was changed for random ass arrow and ballista in the middle of nowhere. 3/4 of the image is the fucking orange canvas. Is this for real? Headcrack has a poorly drawn goblin with a nearly indistinguishable target in same time having too many details which lead nowhere. The only saving grace of it is that original Headcrack is too damn dark to make out on first glance.
Now we can safely say that the Chinese play Hearthstone more than Americans do so they are catering to their majority. Has nothing to do with supporting a communist government.
I like the new card art. I'm not here to look at illustrated boobs. Here to play a game. Could care less what the card is other than to see what card is being played.
I give 0 fucks that they changed the card art. If they want to do that, it's up to them. However, I don't understand why they changed the names of some of the cards. Seems a bit unnecesarry imo.

In which case, this is not a topic of contention for you and that's fine. I'm also here to play the game, been here for a looooong time. And this, to me, feels pointless and an unnecesary action. If an explanation was provided, maybe I could see the point. None was given. And I won't scream "China" either, this is Blizzard's fault. Ffs how many kids play GTA today? How many played Mortal Kombat? This is some weird self-censorship that attempts to hide stuff under the rug for no reason.
It took years for D3 to have something even close to resembling a pentagram; which were prominent in D2 (And there were a few in D1, in the menues at least).
For gaming to mature as an artform, to backtrack and play it safe is a bad idea.
On the scale of things that bother me the replacement of some titillating fantasy art is pretty low down tbh.
Ik. If people are butthurt over this, they seriously need to think about their lives. Like how often/why are you upset at the removal of handdrawn boobs and some blood. The cards still play the same.
I think this is stupid because the game already has a T for Teen rating and changing the appearance of certain cards will not help that. Hearthstone already has most of it's player base in Teens and young adults anyway.
Yu-Gi-Oh! also has censored art for non-Japanese people.
In Duel Links, if you want to see the Japanese art, you either download a fanmade art patch or you download the Japanese version. Konami doesn't destroy everyone's art.
I like these changes a lot! The game should adress a wide audience of people. Sexism and violence (even if ever so slightly present) should disappear from the game. So gj blizzard there! Apart from that - the new artworks just look better in my opinion regardless of political stuff going on.
The only sexism here is the fact that the female body is being censored whilst the game is still full of men wearing far less clothes.
Especially since we're talking about freaking Succubuses and Harpies here...... You're not being progressive by espousing puritanism and extreme conservative values.
Edit: I also don't buy this argument that just because you make your game as tame as possible it = wider audience. Do you think that if MK11 censored out the gore that it'd be more popular? Games should adhere to their core audience that they initially appeal to.
When you start doing stuff like this you alienate people, no one is going to start playing Hearthstone because there's less cleavage and blood, but people will stop playing it.
Plenty of games have dropped dead by trying to go down this route believing that they were '' appealing to a wider audience ''. It's not some magical solution that work for every franchise, you need to set out to do that right from the beginning. Tell me, how has that been working out for WoW?
I like the way you think.

This is definitely China's fault lol
There are 750,000,000,000 things in this world that are worth caring about more than this.

I actually think the new Harpy looks a lot better. Seeing mythical creatures in thongs makes me cringe a little.

eviscerate is one of the few Cards i crafted golden because of the blood animation. now it's just a lazy artwork… i want my dust back.
