This isn't a request to Blizzard for any sort of change, nor is it a complaint about the current use of emotes or anything to that effect. It is literally just a musing on the idea of if the game would feel different (better?) given the following difference (if it were a thing). If this has no interest to you, or your only response is likely to be one of valueless derision, by all means feel free to ignore this thread and move on. Although friendly disagreement is always welcome! :-)
So, essentially I was thinking recently about what has been causing me to lean towards other games from Hearthstone, and why whenever I try and come back to play Hearthstone I find myself feeling almost immediately irritated and frustrated with it (not to mention the occasional blood pressure-cooker that it seems to invoke). And one of the things I've discovered (for me personally) is the emotes. (Though there are plenty of other things too of course) Now, obviously emotes have been discussed to the ends of the earth as to why people think they are good / bad, shoudl be auto-toggled off / on, etc etc. And I don't want to rinse & repeat that here.
Instead, what I found myself thinking about was how the emotes have the potential to be such a good emersive tool for the game, but this emersion is lost due to the abuse of them that is so prevalent by antagonistic players and the like. So I wondered what sort of effect it ould have on the game, if the emotes were instead triggered off of certain events that happened in the game. By that, I mean that the game would trigger your character to use specific emotes when specific things happen (which would also help prevent emote-spam too).
For example: When you play your first turn, the hero emotes "Hello!" Your opponent plays a big minion, like a giant etc - your hero gives the "Wow!" emote. If you kill his big minion, the opponent gives a "Threaten!" emote You play a board wipe like Flamestrike that kills the opponent's board - hero says "Sorry!" emote, or similar. If you defeat the opponent, your hero gives a "Well Played", and maybe the opponent gives a "Threaten!" emote (or even a returned "Well played!")
Basically this sort of thing. I think it adds a bit of character and interest to the game, without the emotes just sounding like sarcastic taunting from the opponent, which is how it can often come across. Though that's not really helped by the voice acting which always sounds really sarcastic anyway! Heh! Anyway, just an idea - I don't expect anything from it, but thought it would be a fun change to the way games feel now.
Nah, squelch option is pretty much enough. On the other hand what i hate is that there is no auto squelch option for players like Kibler who do the greetings on the muligan and that thing irritates me the most.

The squelch option would still be there and available of course. :-)

I think that would be kinda weird tbh. In my opinion, if you wanted to make something like that it would work better if those emotes came from the board itself (like the wooden spectators in The Grand Tournament board, who cheer or cover their faces when certain stuff happens)
Btw, when you say "emersive" and "emersion", do you mean "immersive" and "immersion" or am I understanding it wrong?

Having a sort of "Commentator's Box" - a bit like Waldorf and Statler in the Muppets ( :-D ) would actually be hilarious! Haha! I'd love something like that. It might get cheesy after a while, granted, but it would be a refreshing change for a bit.

Yes. it would appear that my ability to spell has temporarily left me. It's been a long day at work. Too much maths and brain-melting for my liking today... bloody quantum matrices... :-(

People getting triggered over video game character’s voices again LUL
A commentator box ! That would be dope !
I think it would be every bit as annoying as manual emotes, but for different reasons. I would still squelch it.
