Also when someone has lethal instead of just attacking and ending it, they flex up by playing everything in their hand just to show how much overkill they have? No one cares? Am I the only one?
Trying to cast as many minions/spells as they can to complete dailies. Duh.
When i have lethal on board plus a few burns in hand, i'll pretend to screw up by using some of my minions to attack his minions instead of attacking his hero. Then i emote "oops". Wait a while, let the timer run down...
Then emote "threaten" and shoot the burns to his face. Bliss.
Hahah. I have yet to have that happen to me. If that happened regularly it'd be pretty irritating, but if it was done to me for the first time I'd probably laugh.
Lately my little guilty pleasure is when I'm at the end of a close game and my opponent has the win next turn but doesn't know that I can't win this turn. I hold a spell over their face after saying "Sorry" or "Well Played" just to see if they'll assume I've got it and concede.
No one likes it when it is done to them, but many enjoy bathing in the afterglow of sweet victory, lording it over their opponents as they sit helplessly! Can be fun when you play someone nasty/annoying. Doing it every game points to a personality disorder imo.

Hmmm i shd try that, does it work?
before i concede i'll usually attack my opponent hero as much as i can. Whatever ragnaros or kelthuzad on board i'll ignore, just smash his face, then concede. It's been a while since someone attacked my hero to below 0. I always get the last shot in. Self satisfaction.
I feel physically and emotionally threatened each and every time my opponent uses the "Threaten" emote. I don't know what kind of psychopath is virtually sitting across from me. Sure, 9 times out of 10 it could just be some normal guy, but that 1 outta 10, HE'S the one that scares me, and he could be some sort of hacker genius. Not only is he threatening my life by burning me with the light or by being my death, but if he's as smart as some of these nut jobs are, he could find me and exact his revenge upon me...for reals!
This topic comes up repeatedly. At this point I feel like there are seven rules to Hearthstone etiquette, and they pretty much all pertain to regulating ones own behavior and have no bearing on the other person's behavior whatsoever:
Do not intentionally stall the game. This includes things like intentionally waiting until the timer runs down, or watching a show on another screen "between" moves.
Do not spam emotes. You only need to use "Greeting" once per game. You should never need to use Sorry more than once per turn. And generally speaking you really shouldn't emote more than once or twice per turn.
Do not use your emotes to mock. You cannot control how other people interpret your emotes, but you can control how you use them. Only use "Well Played" when you mean it. Only use "Thank You" when you mean it. Etc. An occasional "bluff" emote is acceptable, but using emotes as distraction, irritant, or mockery is not.
End your games as you would like them ended. If it irritates you when someone plays out their whole hand at the end of a game... do not play out your whole hand at the end of the game. If it irritates you when someone uses the "Well Played" emote after shutting you out, do not use the "Well Played" emote when you shut someone else out. Different people have different preferences and you will not be able to accommodate them all - so make sure you stay true to your own preferences.
Do not assume ill will. You will probably notice that all of my advice is about minding one's own behavior. That's all you can really control: that emote you thought was sarcastic may have been intentional; that end game stall might be the last minion someone needs to complete a daily; that slow play could be the result of a broken internet connection.
Do not message someone to trash talk. I don't care how many Miracle Rogues or Zoo Decks you've seen, if you friend someone after a match, it had better be to say "good game," or "thank you," or to complement them on something innovative about their play or deck. Do not tell them how they're just a scrub/a net-decker/a cheap, filthy whatever epitaph comes to mind right now. They're playing this game for fun, just like you.
Do not take revenge. If you use bad manners (BM) as a way to retaliate against a perceived violation of one of the previous rules, then there will be exactly one person who you know is being rude: you.
This is really good. I recently replied to a post about raging and this was the one topic I mentioned. Poor Sportsmanship.
Once in a great while I get a little frustrated with the emote system. Many players can be honorable and show good sportsmanship. However some can be very passive aggressive and condescending.
It might seem silly to use the word honor in an online card game. Yet I have always found it funny with how some people treat others when they have little or no way of being held accountable. In general sportsmanship refers to virtues such as fairness, self-control, courage, and persistence, I really respect it. It goes along way to promote good fellowship in any game.
One example of poor sportsmanship is that it can come off as condescending to apologize to a competitor after getting a lucky top draw or making a great play. After another makes a great play I usually respond with a well played. But if they apologize I just squelch them. I saw Firebat do this twice in his final worlds match. The announcer even said something about the lack of politeness. I really do enjoy playing that person who is respectful. Sadly I am glad that they don't have more emote options. It might be okay to have more, only if I could block or put some players on my ignore list.
One other thing I find frustrating is when someone takes their maximum time every turn. I have to remind myself that that is the rules and we are both given the same. However when it is turn one or two or three and they have no manna what are they really trying to do?
So it all comes down to how would you like to be treated. Then treat others that way. Would you really want someone to go ham on you and then apologize? Do you really want someone to take their full turn every time? Do you really want someone to do twenty extra damage to you post kill? Do you want to see well played or sorry pinged as often as possible. I don't want any of this. This kind of play is toxic.
Good sportsmanship shows class and does go a long way to promote good fellowship in any game.
When they take forever to do their lethal turn (especially against hunter), I just don't even concede because I'm always busy doing other shit online. People play hunter because the games are fast, so if they wanna be a dick like that, I just let them. Wastes only their own time lol.
It is kinda frustrating though.
This one made me laugh. For some reason when I play against Hunter I often find that I need to take my full turn. Just need to be careful because you know that Hunter deck requires so much skill to play and that makes me cautious.

I can sort of see trying to rustle your opponent if it is your job to play Hearthstone and money/renown is on the line. I think it was Dtwo (if that is the Italian guy) that seemed to be genuinely getting upset by Firebat's emotes following ridiculous top decks.
Firebat also claims to not really see saucy emote use in the same light. He said on Reddit that he views them to be lighthearted and in a similar vein to when you banter with friends over Smashbros, etc.. I don't buy it ofc but it is possible that your opponent doesn't intend harm and has a different sense of humor.
Regardless, you decide how you respond/feel and its silly to let some faceless stranger manipulate your emotions over a fun, but ultimately meaningless card game.
When I first started playing, the opponent saying well played when they won didn't bother me. Many games later I realized that the great majority of players will say well played only if they win, and say nothing if they lose. This makes it seem more condescending to me, and the opposite of what I'd consider good manners. It bothers me even more if they say it without knowing they they have lethal. Now if someone says well played when they are about to win, I just say thank you. For that once in a while well played that my opponent does when they lose, I well played back.
For me tbh it depends purely on my mood. When i am cheerful i don't have problem with it or even see a good side of this emotes. When i'm angry everything changes 180 degress. I know that in HS is bunch of a******s, but hey this is internet. And there is probably much less than in other places. And my personal solution - whn i have bad mood i'm just muting opponents. So if you feel, that simple "well played" will annoy you, then i advice same thing.
And about playing all card from hand or anything similar - For me it's more tolerable than for people because i played Duel of Champions before. In DoC you were awarded with gold based on amoud of played cards and damage dealt (even overkills), so that was normal behavior. In HS that can be justified somewhat by daily quests.
I usually finish my games with a Well Played, if the opponent has played well. Doesnt matter if i lose or win, to me its a sign of respect. We do however need some emote to show disgust, to be used when facing a hunter or zoolock. Blizzard, make it happen please.

Absolutely agree. "I will hunt you down!" NOO!! Please don't!
Hearthstone is a game where you need to concentrate and think in advance, it is also a game with very few ways of interacting with your opponent. A smart player would use the few ways of interacting with their opponent to interrupt their concentration and thinking. Nothing personal bro.

Honest question: Do you interpret it as insulting or threatening if on turn 2, both players at full health, Priest emotes threaten, and then "heals" you for 2? I've always thought it was just funny to do that because it's just being silly. Have I been actually frightening people this whole time?

BM is part of the meta game, frankly it's an important part of the competitive culture... remember, it's a sodding video game and if you're letting BM get to you than you're probably not having any fun and shouldn't be playing it anyway.
This is something every new player has to come to realize and certainly there a varying degrees of BM skill... higher the rank more likely the higher the BM quality. Sometimes people just misplay altogether and miss BM or don't do it correctly.
Your specific example is really only how you take it, which in reality is more sour grapes than anything. A Well Played usually just means I have lethal this turn, thanks for the game. If they top deck lethal, especially with in-turn draw, it's fairly expected, although a Sorry should come first.
As far as the extra card flare on top of lethal, sometimes that's just going thru the motions because you've played so many damn games today that you're not even paying attention or you're just bored... or maybe even you're just trying to squeeze out a little more XP,
I would say just don't take emotes in a video game personally, I'm sure some people are just a-holes and do it intentionally, and a-holes are just going to be a-holes, but more than likely most of the time it's just good natured BM.
