When you are about to lose a game and you know it and your opponent knows it. And they say "well Played" am I the only one that finds that horribly mockitive and condescending? I mean why ever have emotes. It seems more trollish then anything
Also when someone has lethal instead of just attacking and ending it, they flex up by playing everything in their hand just to show how much overkill they have? No one cares? Am I the only one?
I've found a lot of people playing HS to be jerks so I just concede the game if I know I am going to lose. I give a little wiggle room on time, but those who try to play everything will be denied a chance to finish it. On a rare instance, such as if we played a really long game, I will let them finish it.
Oh I concede too. But only after my final draw and I am 100% sure I am losing no matter what. I just think if your opponent has lethal, the game should ask as you go to end turn "Concede: Yes? No?". Don't let people be cocks, it ruins the spirit of the game I feel. I played MTG for years and I think out of my 10 years of playing I met MAYBE 3 total assholes ever. This is out of hundreds of tournaments and casual playing arenas at local shops and everything. Nothing like this. The fact Blizzard even GIVES people the option to emote but not chat is opening a window for them to be dicks with no sort of confrontation. It's very annoying.
I was wondering if that was just me. That little barb of a "Well Played" right before the pyroblast seems kind of gratuitous, but I know the deep satisfaction of a well placed, perfect killing stroke and if I could visibly sneer I probably would too. Sportsmanship is a thing, for sure, but gloating can be fun too. We all do it, on some level or another.
Yesterday I had a guy try to rub in his win, 5 minions on the board one 4 health dingo, he brought me down to 3 health, equipped a deaths bite and didn't take lethal. He had 10 health left
i had a molten, and a charge and top decked kor'kron... He did not accept my friend request.
This topic comes up repeatedly. At this point I feel like there are seven rules to Hearthstone etiquette, and they pretty much all pertain to regulating ones own behavior and have no bearing on the other person's behavior whatsoever:
Do not intentionally stall the game. This includes things like intentionally waiting until the timer runs down, or watching a show on another screen "between" moves.
Do not spam emotes. You only need to use "Greeting" once per game. You should never need to use Sorry more than once per turn. And generally speaking you really shouldn't emote more than once or twice per turn.
Do not use your emotes to mock. You cannot control how other people interpret your emotes, but you can control how you use them. Only use "Well Played" when you mean it. Only use "Thank You" when you mean it. Etc. An occasional "bluff" emote is acceptable, but using emotes as distraction, irritant, or mockery is not.
End your games as you would like them ended. If it irritates you when someone plays out their whole hand at the end of a game... do not play out your whole hand at the end of the game. If it irritates you when someone uses the "Well Played" emote after shutting you out, do not use the "Well Played" emote when you shut someone else out. Different people have different preferences and you will not be able to accommodate them all - so make sure you stay true to your own preferences.
Do not assume ill will. You will probably notice that all of my advice is about minding one's own behavior. That's all you can really control: that emote you thought was sarcastic may have been intentional; that end game stall might be the last minion someone needs to complete a daily; that slow play could be the result of a broken internet connection.
Do not message someone to trash talk. I don't care how many Miracle Rogues or Zoo Decks you've seen, if you friend someone after a match, it had better be to say "good game," or "thank you," or to complement them on something innovative about their play or deck. Do not tell them how they're just a scrub/a net-decker/a cheap, filthy whatever epitaph comes to mind right now. They're playing this game for fun, just like you.
Do not take revenge. If you use bad manners (BM) as a way to retaliate against a perceived violation of one of the previous rules, then there will be exactly one person who you know is being rude: you.
It seems a tad paranoid to assume that "well played" at the end of the game is condescending. There are times where a "well played" after an obviously poor play could be condescending. but I think that, at least for most people, the "well played" at the end of a game is akin to a handshake after a game of, well, anything else.

We're not paranoid, we just stare at that little portrait and assume the guy on the other side hates us personally, like everyone else we encounter online. That's totally normal, right?

For an online game, it's really not paranoia. Most people are ass wads online because they can be. It's a trained way for us to think nowadays.
Given that this topic has been beaten senseless, splashed with water, beaten to death, and then beaten again over the course of the last year or more, no, I would say you are not the only one that feels this way.
A bunch of people do. And a bunch of people feel the exact opposite way, that saying "well played" at the end of a game, regardless of the result, is good sportsmanship.
As such, this thread will be every bit as pointless and argumentative as the dozens of previous threads on this topic.

Except that there's nothing rude about "well played". It's actually quite the opposite.
This is sort of like the waitstaff at a restaurant complaining about how rude a customer was, not because of anything he said or the way he behaved, but because he left a standard tip despite the service being mediocre.
I say well played on either end when I know I have won or lost. Its a nice thing to say and if you just assume that its mockery I think you are a little cynical

When i have lethal on board plus a few burns in hand, i'll pretend to screw up by using some of my minions to attack his minions instead of attacking his hero. Then i emote "oops". Wait a while, let the timer run down...
Then emote "threaten" and shoot the burns to his face. Bliss.
When they take forever to do their lethal turn (especially against hunter), I just don't even concede because I'm always busy doing other shit online. People play hunter because the games are fast, so if they wanna be a dick like that, I just let them. Wastes only their own time lol.
It is kinda frustrating though.

I agree with everything but number 7. If someone spams me the whole game with emotes or trolls me with rope burn, I burn my rope out completely after every turn.

When you decide decide to waste both of our time by not conceding, I figure you want me to maximize it.
when i first started out i use to play my hand cause i didn't know how to emote and i just want to show that, yea i had you beat … no malcontent about it
be thankful you haven't come up against people who play mill druid and purposely wait the entire turn just to try and piss you off, and i meant every turn i guess its a strat to piss people off

I will always play as many cards and take as many actions as I can before I end the game if I win. Not out of bad will but to maximize XP.
Just my 2 cents

I played Hunter before it was cool.
