First of all, for once in a very long while, Kaladin is on point here. Perhaps not exactly in the way he meant it, but correct nonetheless.
No one can grasp the simple concept that there will always be varying power levels of cards, and thus we can ban cards down to the base set and there will still be "relatively" overpowered cards. If we can't grasp that simple concept, the trainwreck-in-waiting that is asking players for tournament recommendations is something to avoid at all costs.
Beyond all that, I think it's worth mentioning that a very small percentage of the player base has participated in a single tournament.
Personally, I was a fan of the Conquest format. I suspect that the current "sideboard" structure will greatly cut down on the variety of classes appearing at high levels, but it is difficult to predict before the pros start iterating with the format.
