Yeah I know what you gonna say "Quit if you hate the game". Just let me say some words about it please, as a 4-year player.
This game is gone way too far from a skilled card game. The only thing left is "card", you don't need brain or skill to play now. Expansion came out few weeks now, let's have a look of the top tier decks: Trent Druid, Control/Bomb Warrior, Discover Mage, BrokeBack Rouge (I mean Lackey), Big Priest. All these decks have some similarity: you have no way to interact with them. They just play their cards, you either clear it or you dead. Okay you clear it, and then he play another ONE card that put multiple threads on board at the same time. Here's some examples: Priest Mass Resurrection with Catrina Murete, Druid Forest's Aid, Crystalsong Portal Warrior Two Doctor sevens Mage Khadgar Power of Creation/ Khadgar-Giant-Calling Rouge infinite Lackeyssssss
I have a solution of all these: play aggro, hit their face hard to zero before turn 6. But what if I don't like aggro decks?
Maybe it's the life of a game, 5 years is too much for a card game?
Last word, "Discover" actually kills HearthStone. I wish Discover was never been released, maybe HS will still be a good card game.
I hear you. I started playing MTG arena when it got out. I havent spend any money on it and I intend to be a F2P. its a much better card game, vast of strategies, cool mechanics. you might like it, or not...
I think creating a semi decent homebrew deck still takes some skill and thought to make it actually work. Granted you won't win as often as you would playing an already optimised netdeck but the times that you do win are more satisfying. Anyway in the end you pick your own style of playing.
Best thing to do is just take a break for a while. Fatigue sets in and the only way to get rid of it is by taking a break. Not saying you should quit but a pause always helps.
In terms of the game itself, personally I find CCGs to be flawed. One of the main reasons I continue to play and collect TCGs is because I get to actually go to shops and play near others. It's not just about the game but the community as well. With Hearthstone we have reddit and Hearthpwn and a few other sites but that's it. It is all online, a fact that defeats the purpose of card games in general.
Right now HS to me is more so about practicing and refining deckbuilding. Without that aspect I doubt I've even play anf yeah totally agree about discover. That mechanic should have ended expansions ago.

Don't agree. I understand the point of "giving some random" into the game, but Discover is just too obvious, too easy and too strong. Discover itself means "give player three class options to pick one" AND "class card offered more often than netural card", combining with keywords on the card like "discover a taunt minion", makes it way too strong than just a random card draw.
In my opinion, discover should not be printed on minions. You should use your mana (that means tempo) to find an answer if you need. Playing a minion on board AND still discover an answer make no sense.
And those "if xxx then keep all three cards" are absoulte broken. If you nerf Ancient of Lore because 7 mana draws two is too OP, why would you print a card that say "2 mana draw three random Druid minions".
I made an elemental control shaman deck, actually keeping a okay win rate these days. But the thing is, I auto-win when I queue into Rouge and Hunter, auto-lose when I queue into Priest and Mage. I don't like this even I win a lot, cause playing rock paper scissors in 2019 is not fun at all.
I left for eighteen months and came back. First thing I realized is that I had virtually none of the cards needed to play Standard and so I played Wild. And in Wild one out of two games is fun and exciting. And then the second one is facing a broken or overpowered deck that I rarely if ever can defeat. But it was fun seeing the new cards and it was thrilling when decks of my own design occasional win against overwhelming odds. Sooner or later though I'll go back into hibernation. Never say never again.
That said, I can feel the OP's pain.

But Crystalsong Portal isn’t that good of a card. Last I checked it was the worst performing card in Token Druid, the only kind of deck it works in, so I wouldn’t be surprised it ends up being cut.
its always after the release of an expansion when you only face those top decks. For most people the game consists of Day one checking what the pros use and copy everything = then pwn other players..like a shooter.
I sometime wish there would be no pro site like the one we're on right now. Imagine everyone had to figure out a deck themselves OMG! that would be so much fun and take skill and would last long..

This is pretty true. I played a lot of token druid, and I got Duskfallen Aviana way too many times. And she's worse than not having a card at all, lol.

I played some MtG also. As a game HS is better, simplier, more attractive, better gameplay. But as a "card game", MtG is 100% better than HS.

I have played HS since beta. And some times im tired of it too. Then i take a break for a week or so. Then after that its fun again.
The longest break i have had was after Naxx when undertaker hunter was on the rise. Then i didnt play for 2-3 months
There are hundreds of wonderful games to play. Dont waste your time with HS unless you enjoy It.
Beauty of a game like this is its easy to dip back into.
Just take some time out, it's always there to return to if you want. Playing any game for 4 years is going to leave you feeling burned out.
Just quit, just do it.
Discover is a big part of fun in HS.
