for years the discussion has been raging on whether aggro and OTK are valid decks or not. I was playing yet another game of Hearthstone when it hit me: both aggro and OTK decks are a way to allow the player to relax for a bit, when playing Hearthstone. Playing aggro means I just want to play out my cards and then send them face. That's it. The game gives me some cards that I can jam on the board. During the next round, I use my mouse to send them them upstairs. Mission accomplished. After 3-5 turns I either win the game or go bottom right into concede. That is an incredibly soothing and relaxing experience. Knowing that your opponent is probably mad, that he didn't get to play a game of hearthstone, puts a smirk on your face and you queue another game, as your hand reaches out to munch another crisp cookie. I love it. After a long day at work I wouldn't want to do anything else.
Another archetype you can play is OTK. With OTK it's exactly like playing aggro, but in reverse. The goal is to play the bare minimum of cards. I let my opponent play the first 5 turns by himself and then I jam out an awesome board clear, and the cycle begins anew. Jordan Peterson is just about to say something very meaningful in the YouTube video I'm watching, when I shake things up with the occasional card draw effect. After my deck is cleared of removal cards and card draw I finally have my combo ready to end the game. I watched my favorite streamer do the combo, so I have no issues playing it out in the right order. My opponent, who's been playing on one card per turn for the past 10 turns knows I have the combo and preemptively concedes, so he doesn't have to endure 2 minutes of absolutely magnificent animations.
Up until today I had absolutely no idea what Blizzard's intentions were, when they added aggro and OTK decks. Now I know. And you do too!
Pretty sure aggro and OTK decks existed in card games well before Hearthstone was made. So their intention was just to follow tradition, because it works.
Aggro was not "added" to the game by Blizz. It is an archetype which is "naturally emerged" by to factors: 1. The wish from players to win matches rather fast and to "overrun" their opponents + 2. cards which are fitting to this idea and which are in the game since the beginng (for example Wolf Rider).
Your statement sounds like "there was a time, no aggro existed and then Blizz decided that there should be aggro and they added it to the game - and no one knows why"... please move on to the salt thread!
Blizzard should make a special stream lessons or youtube videos in which they explain the the only way hs should be played is with supa dupa 1000 IQ control/combo homebrewed decks and 30 minutes long match is a minimum time period that proves you're not braindead blah blah something etc.
Memedeck-seeker. Always tries to build new decks. Hates tournements, streamers, netdecks and poor-o players. ah, but a tournement mode could be great !!!
please no! guys! original poster here! if you disagree with the notion that aggro and OTK were added so that players can win games without having to put in much effort then please give me counterarguments!
no "this poster is so nonsensical"
no "troll post!!!"
no "omg salt!!!"
and most importantly no "you are wrong"
if you disagree, AWESOME! but give me your point of view! tell me where I'm wrong exactly!
simply saying "you are wrong" won't change my mind. having a well thought out counterargument ready might! (this applies to all forums on the internet)
So aggro is the easy way to play Hearthstone because you jam cards into face. OTK is also the easy way because you board clear 5 cards at once. So you're saying control is easy way actually.
What is the "valid" way to play hearthstone then and why is it more acceptable?
You just saw the relaxing and casual side of the game and this is very cool. Dunno what was the concepts but all of the archetypes have different skill levels. We can play aggro cadually or very seriously, thinking Again every turn or our opponent possible reactions.
Yeah u are right, thats a good mood if u just chill and play some hearthstone, but imho u van do it evry deck u create
