I like how I can squeeze a game or 2 here and there, nothing too hardcore. I can leave whenever I want. I don't have to even login every day, if I don't feel like it. I don't have to complete dailies and tavern brawls every week if I don't have the time or the will to do it. And I also enjoy the Warcraft universe and it's characters.

I still like the game but the truth is.. I'm still playing because I spent way too much money and time.
I get you,
But once you start "loosing money" by not doing quests, missing brawls etc. for a few weeks, you break the spell. Also, if you look well for alternatives to escape.. it's not a total loss.. in my case, let's say it was even profitable ;) if you know what i mean
Habit pretty much. Plus the monthly card backs? I don't play much these days and certainly don't spend money on the game. Digital CGs like MTGA and Gwent offer a much better player experience, imo.

This is amazingly true. The dailies and events are meant to keep you engaged and playing day after day. However, I've left quite a few games because I would see how much I wasn't keeping up with the dailies and just gave up running.
Meanwhile I've had times when I've gone three days without opening hearthstone, then went "oh yeah, that's a game" opened it, ran 2 games to complete a quest, then closed the game content. Even if I miss a quest, I then see that I am on point to having 8000+ gold for the next expansion and, thus, will be more than fine. The dailies are enough to keep me logging in but I can feel no pressure or worry if I can't or don't want to play day after day.
The only issue in the past was if I had, say, 2 40 gold quests which I did NOT want to complete, so I would be forced to stop playing to avoid accidentally triggering them. Now that they are 50 gold, I realize that, though its' still best to reroll them for 60s, I'm not actually ruining myself if I do complete them, so I'm free to just play and complete them as I feel.
So yeah, the extremely casual natural of the 'required playing' greatly helps keep me in the game. It's impossible to be salty or burnt out when you play only 1-3 games a day I think. :P
(only thing lacking is overall achievements that don't have time limits, but will trigger over long periods of time.)
I used to feel the same, i dont like how expensive this game is, its ridiculous.
Last expansion pack, i spent around 150$ ( not in cash, i dont spend money on this game) i spent like 150000 gold, and guess what, i still don't own some legendaries from the expansion...
imagine paying 150$ every time any other game releases a DLC.
so, to make the game fun, i did 2 things :
1. I went and started to play wild only
2.I stopped spending money on this game, and i only focus on 3 - 4 classes in term of getting all their cards (mage/warlock/warrior/hunter)
The price for each expansion pack is just ridiculous.
Since it's a game designed to be played to the toilets, i only play when i'm there. And when i really have nothing to do.
And you're wasting time on internet forums for a game that's designed to be played in the toilets.
Perfect logic
If you don't detect the difference between playing a game and being on a forum i can't do anything for you. But check my post history with my two comments per month and tell me more about waste of time :)
@op: i kind of don't play it anymore. The amount of randomness and limitations, plus the specific design in which there can't really be two or more equal (or approx.) deck archtypes, means it's way too frustrating to lose to a perfect draw or response from the opponent. Life is stressful enough; i don't want more reasons to get angry and to want to burn down blizzard's HQ :)
The target audience for this game is not helping either.

It is kinda my daily routine and ithelps me deal with stress also I think it is a nice game to play once every day or two
The "sunk cost fallacy" is a curse that is mightily hard to dispel 😜 The more you have spent on a game, the harder it get's to quit.
i sank money into this game so i still play and have fun.
I started getting back into MTG again so its a balance of both.
Do or do not. There is no try.
I’ve spent to much money on this game to give up, feelsbadman

Since the start, because i enjoy a mental challenge around legend, it keeps me sharp and the lore of wow interest me.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Hearthstone can be really fun sometimes
Cause its better than Destiny 2, which used to be my main game

why? because of sunken cost fallacy, is not that i dont enjoy it but if i had not played the game i would have gotten more things done.
Invested a lot of money into game, it would feel like a waste to me if I quit
