I guess (2) although I'm not necessarily thanking people for being a great opponent, just being polite and do it to most opponents (though typically only if they've done it to me first if I've beaten them). If I'm trolling I will almost always go for a 'Thanks'. Very rarely I use it to comment on an actual individual play but that happens once in a blue moon.
What's up with people saying 'Well Played' when they're losing but several turns away from lethal? Are they trying to lull me into a false sense of security?
I just played a Quest Priest in Wild who would spam Well Played whenever something happened, usually rng going his way or having a good top deck (Psychic Scream).
So anyway I got a random Mind Control as Rogue and stole his Amara. He left without giving another Well Played lmao
Overwhelmingly toxic. This is sad. It really sends a message about what the community is becoming when you have the kind of comments that immediately follow the post. The intention of the "Well Played" button is for two things...
1. To literally congratulate your opponent on the game, win or lose, for the competition/your appreciation of their game versus yours.
2. To highlight a specific play your opponent took in sequence during their turn that wow'd you for some unique interaction or high level interaction.
There is no other reason to drop that button, much less spam it. These are children that are appearing all over this post. Ignore them, you likely only play them once anyway. Just terrible that this game has basically no communication between opponents compared to other games, and yet posts like this show just how toxic the game is- even without a sophisticated communication system. Sad. Childish. Disappointing.

This is just a game, dude, and we are having fun. If someone is emoting you like crazy, you can squelch him or start emoting him too. You should start to enjoy this kind of things much more, after all, life is about having fun at the end of the day, nothing else.

That's the thing though, you might think it's fun and all because you're winning but your opponent might not think it's very funny. If you're enjoying making people's experience shit in a video game, so be it.
I personally only use well played if I win the game and my opponent gives me a well played. Or if he makes a terrible misplay (for example trading his 5/6 into my 9/1 instead of ping.

And where did I say I only spam emotes when winning? I do it all the time, Bee, and guess what? Most people start spamming emotes against me in response, making those games a hilarious experience only thanks to that! Believe me, this game wouldn't be the same without emotes, hehe. ;) Oh, I almost forgot, I still have the 80 gold quest, do you want still to play a match? :P

Just before killing him or if he does a interesting move.
My only problem is Valyras Death Knight sais "Lovely" and every time I feel like I'm saying it sarcastically.
I do too and on top if my opponent makes a nice play to remove my stuff.
Always expect the unexpectable!
I use "Wow" much more than "Well played", I only use the latter at the end of a good game that my opponent won.
I use it for 2 and only if i mean it not for lucky topdecks or autopiloted T1 deck. So not very often XD.
1) if there was an actual good play that i didn't see coming
2) at the end of the game if they actually played well, or if the game was a knock-down, drag-out fight that was in fact very close
3) as comeuppance for a premature "well played" during my turn when they thought they had lethal and i had answers
All the time, for whatever reason. It's just a game after all...

Rage quitting: the best way to ensure your opponent knows they beat a giant baby.
To make opponent mad
I have the auto squelch mod and so rarely use emotes. If I did I'd use it to troll most likely :)
ll the above + when opponent gets into a big RNG lucky highroll
I press every second until my opponent is dead

Only when I win when the opponent was spamming first and second, when i really mean that it was a good match
#2 and #3 (Used as ggwp)
Should make this a poll lol. I use Well Played at the end of the game, whether I win or lose, if the opponent has been respectful.
