The stream is unwatchable, this much is true. But even Dr. Scabherde (spelled as God intended) could reach that conclusion. Let's attempt to be a bit more constructive.
Picture in your mind a 2x2 square graph. No, I'm not going to make graphics, use your damn imaginations.
On the horizontal line, we will graph entertainment value.
On the vertical line, we will graph informative value.
So, at the far bottom far left, we have no information and no entertainment (i.e. today's stream).
At the far top far right, we have the ideal situation (i.e. no reveal stream ever) that has probative information and high lolz factor.
At the bottom right, we have Day 9 (no shade).
At the top left, we have a hypothetical moment where Kripp shoots the people they invited and spends the stream talking about how all the new cards are complete arena-breaking garbage and how they could have been designed better.
Got it? Good
Now, how do you get to the ideal? Well . . . in the days of Ben Brode, Blizzard seemed to understand that having two people on the stream could allow the cast to be split between information and entertainment. The problem is, they never sold out to that idea. Instead of Brode plus a pro player, we got Brode plus Day 9 in a giggle fest, or Brode plus Kibler, which was closer but still far from ideal (although to be fair, without the Gul'dan burning memes, no one would remember that stream either).
So they had Brode . . . now they don't. I admire Peter Whalen's willingness to hoist himself on the stake and light a match, but you can only watch a guy burn for so long before you just feel dirty.
I think they have the potential to get plenty of players in for analytical perspective, but I don't know how you get the Brodeism back.
I am a child of the 90s, which means I have seen the use of every gimmick in the book to try to drum up interest. Anyone remember Mick Foley at the World Cyber Games 2005/06ish? We couldn't repel cringe of that magnitude, nowadays. Having lived thru the abortive attempts to mainstream gaming, I'm not a fan of looking to outside talent.
Maybe there's merit in modeling the reveals after an Omnistone show, where you're going to reveal the cards BEFORE . . . not DURING . . . the games themselves. Put three or four known players (preferably some with past drama) in a room and have them argue for a bit, and then pre-con some decks and have a couple of games narrated by the players themselves. I don't know, this idea is derivative, but it solves the problem of trying to have a 75 second cheer session for each new card while the rope burns.
@ me with some ideas here. There's gotta be better ways to do this.
Frankly, I'm ready to turn back to the old days of Day 9 making funny faces into a camera if we can't do better than this.
SUBSEQUENT EDIT: I actually missed the lackey glitch. Yeah, I suppose step one is "make sure your fucking cards work". That one should go without saying.
SUBSEQUENT EDIT TO THE SUBSEQUENT EDIT:
We know it's the worst stream of all time. There's literally a thread right now called "the worst stream ever". Go there if that's all you got.
Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
They spent 45 minutes playing TWO games. The first 15 minutes were spent talking about cards we've already seen. That is not what I want to see in a stream where the entire point is to reveal new cards. Give me fast game play immediately. Stop roping every turn to discuss the new card.
I got bored. I had to shut it off.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
In the first 20 minutes of talking I was like "ok they might be wrapping stuff just to make sure everyone is on line with them, it's annoying but necessary" but then they just kept babying the audience.. EVERYONE watching the stream knows every card in the meta. (Edit maybe this is something they didn't assume.. but I mean.. people can just pause the video instead of making the gameplay annoying..)
after that initial talk it started up fine but after a while it just got agonizing.. just play, and talk between the turns.
Also I think the main mechanic of a showcased deck should be tested before a live stream, just saying.
been disappointed also by the quality of the cards, like dr. boom's scheme for example, never saw such a bad card, a good player would immediately notice how bad a card is.. but that cora is probably told to not talk bad about cards or something.. don't trust her who even heard about her?
I am not 100% sure what annoyed me so much about the stream and I really came with positive approach to it.. just couldn't bear it after the second game and on the third I turned it off, not gonna watch it again to see what tipped me off.
It is important to remember streams have to hit more than one audience. Not only are they there to reveal more cards but also to help everyone understand what the expansion is all about - it helps drives more pre-orders.
The chance is very high that when the PlayHearthstone channel hits a high viewer count, old and even new players who are not even aware there is a new expansion are going to tune in. That's why you hear them constantly going over new mechanics, saying things like "if you're just joining us, the new expansion blah". Is it annoying? Yeah, it kinda sucks for the people who follow absolutely everything about the game.
That's what makes most of us here different though. A lot of the people at HearthPwn are what I'd consider more of the "hardcore" Hearthstone fan. Although people may not be the best at the game, everyone keeps in touch with what is going on. If you don't like the marketing streams, just stick to the occasional F5 of HearthPwn =)
Additionally, I am very disappointed in the people that are talking down on Cora and Chris. I've seen a lot of personal attacks and it just isn't cool.

Well, if you are going to do a reveal stream of Hearthstone you must be prepared for some bashing and personal attacks. I know, it sucks, and I don't feel proud for being part of it, but that is how things works, that is how life works, and we cannot change that.

It's true that they traditionally have played to the newest audience member, and not necessarily a bulk of the audience ("too confusing for new players"). Not surprising, that's what most companies do. Once you're a regular paying customer they don't really give a shit.
I think a lot of us are disappointed not because of the pacing today, but because of the pacing in context with *every other reveal stream.* We know how good it could be. This is not acceptable.

When the stream started people already started attacking Chris on twitch chat is he new though? I never heard of him, he tried his best to be excited about stuff and I can understand him really..
It's a fact that the stream was boring/annoying to watch for veterans or people who are constantly up to date on hs and play day to day, they did a few good such streams in the past with kibler, ben brode and kripp.. on that time I was dissapointed it ended so quickly but this time NAH..
Peter is getting better at those though, he is not Ben Brode level good as an entertainer but he is getting better.
Feel bad for them a bit about them getting flamed as people but it's a tough spot to be in
Maybe I am missing something, but why are they doing these live again? I didn't see any interaction with chat or whatever, so just record it beforehand (in the same style as you would do it live). Fixes all problems with bugs and whatnot.
Who would honestly talk bad about Chris? Chris was awesome! Had it been anyone else that had to go through all of that, it would've taken 3 additional hours.
I think most people were annoyed that they had to discuss absolutely every play they did, while roping on every turn. You could see that Chris was borderline giving up at the end, and just wanted it to go faster.
I didn't like the stream either, but i do hope that Chris will be the one doing the future streams.
Sorry to jump back in, I was going to let the OP speak for itself, but I see an opportunity to speak on a topic that mods are hesitant to permit (though in this case, I think it will work out)
Ever since Zoe Quinn became a household (in gamer households, anyway) name, there's this tendency to get sidetracked by the couple of assholes who say something to the effect of, "because woman". I continue to maintain (as everyone who is not seeking a trolling response does) that the great majority of folks have no issue with the streamer being female. I saw in the other thread someone make a reference to Lane Bryant, which is a very round-about way of insulting a woman's weight for those who don't know, and that crap is not only annoying, but also distracting to the point at hand.
It is not a personal attack to say Cora was demonstrating staggering levels of ineptitude in her play choices.
It is not a personal attack to say Cora, Peter, and . . . the other guy (Chris is it?) combined for less energy and enthusiasm than Day 9 on Xanax the day his grandmother died (and yes, I watched his stream that day, all of that really happened).
These are attacks, don't get me wrong, but attacks on whoever thought these were the right people for the job, and CERTAINLY attacks on anyone who contemplates for a single second hosting yet another stream like this in four months.
As to the assholes who can't divorce these issues from the fact that a woman is on the stream, I don't know what to say other than they are not the target audience of this thread.

I mean, in the end this whole thing was just mediocre publicity. It feels like they are trying to do everything at the same time. They had two options:
1. Entertainment: Invite some well known players, play some quick games and allow some propper honest discussions. DO NOT rope every turn and treat everyone as noob.
2. Advertisement: Present the cards in a flashy way, explain some stuff if you feel the need to but keep it short!
Finally, Peter Whalen is just not my kind of person to be the face of hearthstone. Nothing personal, the guy seems realy kind and stuff.. I guess this needs no further explanation.
Cora is not on the same level as the other Casters (TJ, Admiral, Froday, Kibler, Sottle, Raven). She tries to be funny but doesn't have the same humor. It's a little dark.
As for the other two, they're not leader type personalities. The stream was like a bad movie with glitches.
Chris shows why a Manager belongs in his office and not on a stream. He could care less about streaming.
Peter. Same thing. He's a designer, he likes that he's a part of the design of the cards, but would rather have someone else showcase it.
Fucking painful. the little bit of empathy has me feeling bad for those involved in the broadcast, except for whoever was laughing all the time please stop. if I was running this shit show dam straight the cards would be working. fucking dev dollars going to some shit ass 1982 replica of ms.pac man (where is dumb shit slow) and mt. fucking dew but the orange one. guess I should shell out the 80 dollars for my golden whizbang whatever the fuck.
1- They talk too much, it is distracting and annoying really.
2- Their lack of vision for the cards at their hands was just mind blowing, there were a few cases during the stream where an epic play was about to take place and yet they just couldnt see it. They also missed a significant amount of synergy introductions.
3- 0 entertainment value. There is a difference between a streamer and a designer. A designer can make jokes then and there (if they are social enough and they obviously werent) but a streamer entertains. That is the difference between a few chuckles and a quality stream. The first example comes to mind is Kibler. While Kibler was trying synergies with the cards in his hands without knowing his deck he took a risk and paid a big price for it by burning Gul'dan. You cannot plan this, you cannot set this up and the reaction and emotions of Brode and Kibler were priceless. It wasnt a particularly amazing stream yet i enjoyed some of it.
4- A highly forgettable cast. The CM just didnt shut up, Cora was just taking her sweet time in every single turn it became mildly irritating and Peter was only there to provide information but he made it so horribly that it made people more confused than educated.
I dont know if they have another stream scheduled for this expansion but there is no way in hell i ll be watching again.
Peter is fine as a developer perspective side of things, but he can’t carry the stream.
A big issue with this stream is that Cora wasn’t good enough to know the play immediately. She had to think, and then ask Peter and cycle through all the possible moves. If they got rid of all the “what should I play?” Talk, then it would have cut the stream in half and no one would be this grumpy about it. This was Day9s issue too, although he was at least wa more funny.
They really need to have someone who knows what they are doing to play. Part of the problem is that the people playing the deck don’t know the deck, so they have no idea how it should be played. I honestly think they should be debriefed before the stream and know what is coming to help the stream move. You lose that “oh!” Surprise from the player, but oh well.
Blizzard seems to be trying, as this was a new attempt at three people format. Hopefully they learn. But I am starting to wonder if this live game format is the way to do these things.
I was skeptical that the stream was this bad...until I actually watched it. Cringe-worthy is correct. If you are catering to seasoned players this was very difficult to watch.
