I like to think of it as what Nintendo did for Smash. They wanted to take their best work from before and bring it back so everyone could relive it. That’s what I see in this expansion. I will admit it is a little faulty since one villain only rotated out just now, and two villains will still be in rotation for another two years. But it still brings back memories. LoE was actually the first ever expansion I joined Hearthstone in. The idea of Rafaam was insane. I still replay LoE whenever I’m bored. Then came Old Gods. I was intrigued by Lazul but disappointed when she didn’t get a card in one of the many slots. Now here she is, bringing back a mechanic that I wished there was more of. I will admit, perhaps you are right that the presentation was weak. But I’m letting their final expansion of this year decide whether they’ve gone flat or not.
Well a lot of people wanted back some old mechanics and they brought some. Yes maybe it looks half cocked but thats because they revealed more of the evil cards for now which were cards before but the defenders of dalaran are going to be completely new card designs, like kalecgos, chef nomi.. And a lot of people liked Dr Boom,King Togwaggle.. as characters and thats why this will be Dr Booms third card. In this expansion they want to fullfil players wishes ( Like with bringing back the old style of Solo Content which was more fun and yea you need to invest gold in it but you are getting some fine rewards as well not only a card back)
Rise of Shadows has this "oh crap I forgot to write that essay let me do it on the bus" look to me. The live videos are not HD, for example, and the latest flag was that they recycled the (albeit unused) artwork from Omega Defender. For the latter, I totally understand the desire to up-cycle an existing resource, so as not to waste effort(s) and cut a corner or two. It's there, use it -- fine.
Another thing is that they are taking characters and ideas that already exist and recycling them. The "bad guys" are all from previous expansions. Instead of creating a new story they borrowed from everything prior. It just seems like it's lacking that "one hundred and ten percent" caliber of effort. You know what I mean?
I've noticed little things like this since Ben left. Is anyone else noticing these drop-in-quality breadcrumbs?
EDIT: My comments above are 90% about presentation 10% about recycled mechanics. I don't demand that nothing be old and everything be new. I do however think that quality is key.
It's a Hearthstone anniversary expansion, itsi not lazy, it's a nod. There's plenty of interesting new things in RoS too. I really wouldn't judge it yet, there's so much more left to see.
And in regards to Omega Devastator, the re-used art is a very nice acknowledgement to the Hearthstone community going "Why isn't that a mech? There's no pilot, it should be a mech." And reusing the art for an actual mech.
so many people think that just because they are doing something more than once, its lazy. why? there is nothing wrong with using old characters and mechanics.
When you are recycling cards, mechanics, characters and so on, it is lazy. This expansion is fundamental for the game and the start is very bad, very low creativity like now, except in few cards.
One of my biggest disappointment about this expansion is the......name. It is one of the worse-named expansion, some people speculated it will be named Villains of Violet Hold, that is 300% times better.
I agree 100% It is SOOOOOO super obvious they are being lazy. ... But literally kobolds and catacombs felt so much more fun
The most busted, most OP set of recent Year, if not ever, is your favorite. I feel like someone's opinion is invalid here.
Sorry but I have to correct you. I never said knc was my favorite (cus old gods and tgt is). Secondly, The powerlevel of the set Doesn’t matter in the context of what I was saying so THAT is the only thing invalid here. Imo Knc and ig maybe witchwood as well were the last expacs that really felt like any love was put into the game. Boomsday rastakhan and shadows seem like they were chores to the developers.
I agree 100% It is SOOOOOO super obvious they are being lazy. Infact, I don’t understand how so many people are defending blizzard. They do shady shit all the time. Especially recently. Yeah you could say that’s just activision blizzard. But literally kobolds and catacombs felt so much more fun and ALIVE than the sets that came afterward. You could actually tell they had fun making that set! I personally think something DID change when brode left. Ever since then they seem to just dish out mediocre garbage. ALOT of unimaginative cards are being printed more than ever before. I mean Printing the golden monkeys effect A THIRD FREAKING TIME??? Everyone saying these new expansions are fine and dandy are gullible as fuck
I hope this doesn't count as bashing, but I think it's super weird to worry about the video quality of promos and to pass judgment on the game based on something you looked at once and will never see again after the expansion drops.
That just seems like deeply messed-up priorities to me.
It's the little things that count. A lack of attention to detail speaks volumes when it comes to branding.
You could actually tell they had fun making that set!
This right here is what I'm talking about. There's a lack of enthusiasm ... and it shows! Will it make me stop playing? Too soon to tell. It hasn't yet.
It's because the game is 6 years old at this point...very much jumped the shark (some even say as early as GVG) and is only a cash cow to be milked forever now. To expect the developers to care as much as they have in the past is just not gonna happen anymore. I will mourn with you, don't worry :(
Remember that time Magic the Gathering died when they brought Nicol Bolas back? Went back to Ravnica again? Seeing some more Eldrazi maybe? I sure hate it when games do things I like, and then take a short break, and then use the things I like again.
Hey, remember that time Hearthstone had a set based in Dalaran? I think it was a few years ago. All those Dalaran-themed Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Druid, and Neutral cards. Unfortunate that they're 100% only retreading stuff that's already happened, huh?
the only thing i would complain is dr boom and his callback. People (include me) were assume he presentation will be GvG not Boomsday, use a character (and mechanic) already in standard feel very lazy
Thowbacks are welcome. Hearthone lore is important.

I'm fine with that for the moment.
MTG ie has their often same planeswalkers set to set differently.
It's the 5 year anniversary expansion, that's why it's retreading a lot of familiar land.

Opinions aren't invalid. Your reasoning is invalid though, makes literally no sense.

Dude u saw 4 cards from new set and u are complaining..really ?

Ben Brode groupie detected.

It's half cooked but still tasty
Not complaining about the set. I'm talking about presentation.

i think it's unlikely that the expansion was rushed, given that there's demo footage of the cards being tested from before the 2017 hex nerf
