I hit legend consistently every season and it takes about 100 games, so if you have the time and are good enough it shouldn't be a problem. I am definately not close to being as good as some other players, so I would say it is actually too easy.
If you wanna hit legend this month you should play a tier1 (mid hunter, odd pala,dragon/wall priest) and keep grinding. Sadly it is as easy as it sounds, as someone else already said above you just need 26 wins over the losses. If you’re having some troubles with the gameplay I’d suggest you to watch someone good on twitch, probably deathstarv3 or senfglas if you chose hunter.
The first fime trying to hit Legend is the worst, too much stress and you are likely to make more mistakes. I don't find it hard to climb now, but the first time was really horrible.
In my opinion, for me to hit legend the first time, I didn't have to get good at just one deck. I had to play and get good at most of the meta decks at the time, so when I played the one I wanted to climb with, I knew the other decks as though I was playing them on the other side. That really helped. Also, take the time every turn to IDENTIFY all the possible actions you could take, and then narrow them down to the best few, and really think about which one you will take and how it will impact 1, this turn, 2, next few turns, and 3, your gameplay the remainder of the game.
Once I stopped just making the obvious or "only" move, my win rate went way up.
Glad to see others having similar experiences to myself - currently at rank 2. Was the middle of rank 1 but had a horrendous losing streak where I dropped all the way to rank 3 (faced the same zoolock twice who got kelseth each time in his opening hand and could not draw a mass hysteria or psychic scream, then played a few Odd pallys who discovered Sunkeeper with their Stonehill) which was very tough.
Almost back to rank 1, who knows if I make it this season or not. Agreed that things get very hard around rank 2.
I though I was the only one who finds it hard to climb. Boy do I feel you , I reached rank 2 yesterday, but dropped to rank 4. I lost 6 games in a row and I’m now taking a break from hearthstone. I don’t know why but this meta is honestly hard to climb, not just from 5 to legend. Previously I was also stuck climbing from 10-5.
I agree with you, every single loss can be so tilting and frustrating. I’ve played like 80 games and only managed to climb like 2 ranks.
The amount of time and concentration and effort required is so high I realised, if you want to make it to legend. Can’t make half ass plays at this rank. I find myself tilting ALOT more, even a single thank you emote can cause me to tilt and lose my focus. But nonetheless , the grind continues
Man I feel u , I tried using other decks for many many months other than hunter such as dragon control priest, quest warrior , miracle rogue , odd warrior, control and zoo warlock. Then, I switched to hunter and I realised just how amazing it is and how DK rexxar Single handedly carries my to win the game against control decks. It just saves me so much time and wins me games so fast I’m so amazed At it.
Same here, back and forth back and forth never really going anywhere, managed to climb to rank 2 but now I’m back at rank 4, lost 6 games in a row . It’s really getting to me now , sometimes I get so salty and annoyed.
Im using hunter, it’s really one of the best decks out there. I was never a fan , kept bashing hunter for being so brain dead and easy to play but I realised that the deck it really amazing and requires a lot of thinking and anticipation to pilot the deck. Don’t stop grinding man
If you study the meta, play thinking in every card the oponnent can play (just open replayhs lists) and know you deck (reading and watching guides or pro players) it becomes a lot easier. Then play some games and see what are the most common decks you are playing against to get a deck that beats most of it. (don't trust in any 100% popularity statistics because for example I'm playing against a lot of Big Spell Mages that is the less popular mage deck 12-2 and more taunt odd warriors than odd warriors even with the fact that the last one is more popular. Also, I knew a guy that when tried to play odd warrior suddenly find out 5 miracle druids in 8 matches, so I think Blizzard maybe choose your matchups).
I have this friend who was able to hit legend [before emerald spellstone nerf] and I spectate him all the time. He plays ranked ~3 hours everyday, and after agonizingly unable to hit Legend from Rank 1 for almost month, he finally did it. Sometimes you are paired with opponent that the deck you pick is bad against. It's a lot of BS and RNG, top-decking, etc. It does require luck and A LOT patience.

Most of you guys are calling luck the major factor in hitting legend or not, to be fair on a single game basis it is right, but on average rng is way less impacting than not being able to mulligan well. I’m saying this as someone who hits legend on all the servers every month.
it's pretty easy for me, since my first time I am consistently Legend, usually with 50-70 games needed (once I start the grind, sometimes I do it the first couple of days of the season, sometimes I just do quests because I don't have the time so I grind it during the month)...I've mostly been grinding with faster decks, this season I did it with Deathrattle Hunter from rank 4 with something like 30-10 winrate, so pretty fast...I once did it with Spiteful Mage, quite recently, so it's possible even with "bad" decks, but be prepared to play A LOT more games :D
The first time I finally managed to crack it, it took me an obscene amount of games (196 with a 56% winrate). Monitoring your win percentage is important, you have to see whether you're maintaining a positive rate and whether it's high enough to get there with the amount of games you can conceivably be bothered to play. Sometimes it's also hard to judge if you have lots of swings, like winning seven games, then losing a huge string of games.
Just an update, finally hit legend for the first time ever! Been playing this game for almost 3 years. Initially climbed to the middle of rank 1, then dropped all the way to rank 3, clawed my way back to rank 1 and went on a crazy 6 game win streak to reach legend at last :) So stoked. Didn't get a screen shot unfortunately.
Such a crazy grind filled with emotions. Also went with Wall Priest as I'm good at that deck but made for some long games.
It's not a grind if you don't suck and aren't playing a complete meme. No offense, but people calling it a "grind" are just doing it wrong
With a 60% wr, you'll hit legend from R5 in 90 games on average. That equates to about 3 games per day each month. That's not "grinding", that's called doing your daily quests
If you were legend last season, you'll be starting at R3, which requires less than 40 games on average at a 60% wr. That's just one game each day with the occasional 2nd game every 3rd day. That's probably not even enough games to keep up with your daily quests
One could argue playing "good" decks is lame but if you were playing "fun" decks, then it still isn't a grind because you're supposed to be having fun. Grinding implies you're doing something not enjoyable for the in-game rewards

I call it grind whenever I'm not just doing quests with no regard of whether I win or lose...I don't really use "grind" in a bad way, there's just the reality that if you want to make use of some deck in HS, you have to play quite a lot of games with it - the reason could be getting a desired rank, collecting stats on matchups or whatever...
Also, you never start at R3 even if you finish L1, you start at R4 ..

On 3 march i got legend without grinding a lot. It depends by the quality of player and obviously the deck you're playing.
Want less frustration? Just play the best deck atm.

its 100% luck, hope you get rock while throwing paper.

Legend with : S65 Freeze Mage, S57 Maly Gonk Druid, S57 "Okay" Shaman, S53 Boom-zooka Hunter, S53 Maly Tog Druid, S52 Wild Tog Druid ft.Blingtron, S50 Quest Rogue, S49 Dead Man's Warrior, S41 Wild Clown Fiesta Druid, S41 Hadronox Jade Druid, S40 Wild OTK Dragon Druid, S35 SMOrc Shaman, S33 Jade Druid, S22 Control Priest, S19 Control Priest
Keep at it mate! I got to legend in November last year having got to level one final boss twice in the two seasons prior to that and lost both times 😱
The grind from 5 to legend is horrible but you will get there eventually. Back yourself and back your deck but take a break if you’re tilting.
There is only my justice now
