Since the game became 5 old, I'd like to take a callback for it's eras.
I've started playing after the relase of Old Gods, so I can't talk about the experiences before that.
Best era:
From Un'Goro to Frozen Throne (Honorable mention: from Old Gods to Karazhan)
The meta was good in both game modes, good counter-cards for the previous bad cards, good power level in overall, the game was popular.
Worst:
From Gadgetzan to Un'goro (Honorable mention: from Boomsday to Rastakhan)
It's funny how close it is to the best, but in experience-vise, it was a nightmare. Annoying meta with annoying cards, over the top power level without any counterplay, coinflip simulator ladder.
I think the game is not in it's best mood right now, but with these Hall of Fame picks, maybe it will became better. The new expansion will have to be really good to keep the playerbase.
i think they have had alot of up and down periods in hearthstone, most down to what decks and classes you like playing.
Karazhan was classed as a pretty bad expansion as it did not change the meta much and alot of the cards were underwhelming. Only class that benefited alot was aggro Shaman, which became oppressive in Ranked. Arena was messy with firelands Portals everywhere.
Gadgetzan was a rock paper scissors expansion meta where each class could beat eachother, only if they draw certain cards or went against certain classes. Aggro pirate warrior did better against Jade decks, but struggled against reno. Jade loved fighting control decks, but hated aggro. Reno decks struggled against both, but if they had reno turn 6 vs aggro normally won. it was just messy and i DONT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT HIM BEING IN CHARRRGE EVERYAGAIN
Un'Goro was alot of fun, league of explorers was alot of fun, Old gods was alot of fun.
For me personally, the best era was definitely when the original Dragon Priest was at its height. As in, before Frozen Throne came along. It was the most fun (and consistent) deck that I had ever (and have ever) played. It required all skill, since there was virtually no RnG mechanics within the deck (aside from the odd Discovery effect. That was a mark of the best time for Hearthstone - when skill played a bigger part than luck in decks.
The worst time for me was a tie up between when every other deck in the meta was a C'thun deck (Ugh!) and when Pirate Warrior was around, I'd say. C'thun was quite possibly the worst mechanic they have ever come out with (Subjective Opinion Alert!!!).
I liked the period of GvG and TgT - I know people hated TgT, but I personally loved that expansion - I loved the old priest decks that did not have a win condition, but would win through attrition and outsmarting your opponent or against aggro, just hope for enough healing and clear untill they run out of resources. Both GvG and TgT had me building a lot of different funny decks that weren't meta. Mech druid with spare parts and Gazlow and inspire priest was some of my favorites. LoE was also an era that I really liked simply due to Reno, which they destroyed later on with their build in highlander cards Raza and Kakkazu (or what is name was). This leads me to the worst era in HS history - MSoG - Never has a meta been this boring - it was Jade Druid beats Reno decks, Reno decks beats Pirate warrior, Pirate warrior beats Jade druid. I Personally hope we will never see this kind of Rock, paper, scissors meta again. This expansion was also the one that destroyed the creative deck building revolving around Reno.
I would say the best time was during the Whispers of the Old Gods meta. The standard rotation had to hit it out of the park to keep people coming in and to make people stay and it worked. The rotation of GvG and Naxx was a breath of fresh air for the meta as well as the nerfs to some pretty oppressive cards. The set itself gave us a variety of new decks to play with and the meta was pretty balanced. Sure, the set gave us the birth of Shamanstone and Priest was a joke, but it was the best time to play Hearhtsone IMO.
As for worst, I would have to say Gadgetzan. By far the worst case of powercreep in the history of Hearthstone. A true case of rock, paper, scissors between Pirate Warrior, Jade Druid and Reno Warlock and Mage decks where one deck countered the other. Meanwhile Shaman continued to do its own thing and pounced on the meta when the time was right with both Midrange and Aggro Shaman. Hunter, Paladin and arguably Rogue got Shafted in that expansion and Priest was just there, playing around with its new Dragon support. Pirate Warrior and Jade Druid were, without a doubt, two of the most infamous and despised decks in Hearthstone's history. So it wasn't really a fun time to play Hearthstone then.
LOE / Old Gods. As a Miracle Rogue player, I still miss turn four Tomb Pillager into turn five Azure Drake. It also was very rewarding to survive and win against Aggro Shaman, and to burst lethal a Reno deck out of nowhere.
The worst is probably KoFT pre-patch. This led to the strangest Miracle Rogue ever - the Arcane Giant / Valeera the Hollow / Vanish version, which was meant to counter Druid by wiping out Scarabs and building a full board of giants.
For me the most enjoyable metas were just after Old Gods and the one just after Un'Goro. Really couldn't get enough of the game back then. The Old Gods meta was awesome for the first month or so - everyone jamming C'Thun decks. Good times!
I played every expansion and the best era was Classic, Goblins vs Gnomes and naxxramas. In this era, HS was something new (big hype) and very balanced (non infinite value cards, no extreme mana cheat, a lot of midranges in the meta that has balanced matchups and not decks 100% wr against others like odd warrior nowadays). Also in this time we had the most classic decks in hs: zoolock, jaraxxus handlock, mid hunter, freeze mage, COOL control warrior, mech mage...
Also, the end of the year of the raven has a lot of archetypes viables and cool cards, but in ranked people likes to use boring decks like big spell mage, control warrior and priests, so It's a pretty boring season to play ranked. Geringotzan added a lot of cool cards too. However unbalanced.
For me (a person, who started playing hearthstone since late LoE):
Worst moments - MSoG (aka Pirate Warrior meta), early JtU (Quest Rogue's dominance), late KoFT and early K&C (Raza Priest and Big Priest), current Rasthakan meta (we face the same old decks due to the huge difference of the power level between the Year of the Mammoth and Raven expansions).
Best moments - WotOG, JTU (when aggro decks became more popular and I managed to play with my Jade Elemental Shaman), WW.
honorable mention - KoFT (I just loved the introduction of hero cards and my favourite archtype, control warlock, became viable again) and LoE I guess (though my collection was very poor at that time; I liked watching Elise Starseeker decks).
I've never got bored of a season before but I'm done with standard for now. If I have to queue into another excitement warrior (odd) or odd Paladin again it will be too soon. So I'd say right now is my worst era with HS. I've only been playing since a month or two before K&C but the era between that and Witchwood were really fun for me although I was really new to the game.
I'm having a lot of fun in wild right now playing a dragon combo priest that I was playing before witchwood. I've never been a wild player but I can see myself playing it more.
For me, the best moment was probably Un'goro. Everything was playable. Every game was different and unique. We thought that primordial glyph was broken back then (yeah, time change)
Worst: Draw between two times when one class get the Tier S decks, first time was midrange shaman and second time druidstone after the release KofT before the nerfs.
The best for me was League of Explorers release. Reno Jackson was the perfect counter to aggro without being oppressive. If your aggro opponent is an idiot and wastes every resource on your face, when you Reno they may as well quit. Meanwhile a smart aggro player could determine they were against a highlander deck and play smarter and conserve resources to the point where playing Reno effectively does nothing. Much better than the current rock/paper/scissor games. Plus you could be greedy as hell and use Brann for multiple high value discoveries. Un-Goro gets a special mention for having a fun meta too.
As for worst? I hate to say it but probably right now. I don't ever remember the developers begging people to come back and play before, and the year of the Raven was pretty boring expansion-wise. Special mention goes to Gadgetzan and the pirate meta for suckiness.

Obey C'Thun, Praise The Darkness, Pet Hakkar, the Soulflayer, Love Yogg-Saron, Hope's End

I would rather go with LoE as second best, but probably just because I love GvG and Naxx more than I should do to nostalgia.

best i'd say Old Gods, GvG and KnC (largely bcs of the introduction of Dungeon Run). also Arena is great right now!
worst. omg.. Undertaker decks in Naxx. Pirate Warrior (reason why the Legend card back doesn't mean anything). Jade Druid. DKs in Arena..

Missing lethal since June 2015.

Old Gods when everyone was playing aggro Shaman. Also Gadgetzan when the game was over at turn 3 due to pirates
Worst: Drakonid Operative dragon priest
Best: Elise Starseeker control warrior

Un'goro era is the best. Since The Knights of the Frozen Throne to this day is the worst era. Developers for sure may do the next year even worse.
old gods to the un goro rotation no question

KoFT because of Raza Priest and TGT because of orginal Dragon Priest.
Best: Un'Goro after the nerf in quest rogue.
