I don't remembee if Patron Warrior was tier 1 deck but that deck was high skill cap deck even if warsong was kinda op.
Also for me the least cancerous tier 1 deck was FoN Druid. Seems kinda weird but maybe it was the fact that I started Hearthstone around those days when it became a thing. Maybe this is how new players feel? Like I find odd paladin for example extremely cancerous but maybe that new player doesn't.
Hate me but FoN Druid is maybe my favorite deck I have ever played, close second/tied place is OG Exodia Shaman.
- player who rarely plays meta decks cause don't enjoy them and plays meme decks instead
The only cancer deck i see right now in the meta is clone priest. But that's because i don't like highly uniteractive decks. It's fine to play against when they don't otk you,in that casa it's a fair deck i guess. But too many times happens this: do nothing,do nothing,do nothing, mass hysteria, ziliax, ress ziliax, coin gallery, dead.
Lot of people are saying that Patron Warrior wasn't a cancer deck. In reality though, people used to hate playing against that deck and certainly called it a "cancer" deck back in the day.
Anyway, any deck that is super good on the Ladder will be called this. As someone else noted earlier though, it's only been Midrange Face Shaman with the original Totem Golem and probably Pirate Warrior that fit the bill perfectly.
You mean Tuskarr Totemic. Totem Golem was never changed/nerfed.
Patron was really cancerous. He was hard to Play? Not really. Hard to master, yes but not hard to Play. Every monkey could win most of games with it.
Imagine: you have 30 HP and two Slugde Belchers on board, opponent plays Thaurissan, you know you lost. That's it. Same bullshit as Gallery Priest but ppl tend to forget how cancerous decks was if it was long ago.
Its the community that makes strong decks cancer. People would rather win than have fun most of the Time. Playing decks that arena really enjoy able but make them feel accomplished becouse they got to legend.
Patron Warrior was a hard deck to master and Tier 1. Probaly the best example I can think of off the top of my head.
And yet, it still got nerfed into the ground, presumably because of too many people calling it cancer
When the deck was finally stabilized at around the summer, the deck was one of the most advantaged decks in the meta. There was literally 2 decks that didn't have a losing win rate against it at the top level: Control warrior and handlock.
Blizzard hadn't gotten into following 'player fun' at the time (that came during Mean Streets) so the deck was dealt with because of the above. The deck actually had a good deal of defenders on the forums both in those that played it and those that played against it. It was a deck where if you played it poorly a better skilled player could tear you apart with another deck. Thus very new players hated it, and average skilled players thought it was fair (and hated things like secret paladin instead). It was FAR from hated compared to other decks in the past or present. However, at the highest level, the deck was impossible to beat consistently if you weren't the two mentioned, and Control Warrior was only a 50/50. It led to tournaments being literally Patron, Handlock, and Druid (a deck that couldn't fight Patron but could fight Handlock). Didn't help that they didn't allow a ban then so you HAD to face Patron at some point.
So no, it wasn't people screaming cancer that killed the deck. Secret Paladin was MUCH more hated by the general community and wasn't touched. It was data that did the deck in.

I agree. As a control deck playing against Patron Warrior was very similar to Gallery Priest, both decks wait for their combo cards before bursting down the opponent and there isn't really much you can do.
Pretty sure anyone who calls any deck cancer doesn't have a blanking clue as to what cancer is.
Glad someone else thinks this way actually. My wife is an End Of Life Specialist Nurse and some of the stories she's told me.... *shudders*

Exactly this!
Its a gaming term, just as much as it's a medical term.
Most human 'Cancer' actually has a proper medical name which doesnt even contain the word cancer.
The internet is full of people that are, categorically speaking in terms of 'internet age', immature teenagers. Immature teenagers are obsessed with buzz/catch words, including "cancer". Said players must surely hold to a believe that they will spontaneously combust if they don't frequently throw out such tired phrases.
It could also just be that these edgy teens compulsively insult things that beat them.
It honestly is pretty silly to call almost any deck cancer when at one point it could have easily been a meme deck. Back before cube & witching hour ever were a thing I used my own version of a Haddronox Mill Druid deck that was inspired by another list created by a fellow Hearthpwn user. The deck was pure meme but relied both on mill effects & massive taunts spawned by Haddronox. Then when the average player with two brain cells started copying taunt druid lists once cube & witching hour came out suddenly the deck was "cancer". Pretty poor and brainless reasoning really.
It should also go to say that cancer doesn't say anything objectively about a deck and is almost entirely dependent on the popularly spread perception about something instead.
Before & soon after The Caverns Below came out TONS of players poo-pooed the card as an extremely slow meme deck. Then when the playerbase realized they were wrong about new cards (surprise surprise) the card was suddenly actual "cancer". Does that mean that technically the card was cancer then before lists for it even started getting used early on in the experimentation phase of Un'Goro, or not?
Patron Warrior
Any Reno deck before Kazakus
I think Anyfin Can Happen Paladin, as well as Test Subject + Vivid Nightmare Priest?
Also, Dead Man's Hand Warrior could have been tier 1 at higher ranks and I thought that deck took a lot of skill to pilot.
EDIT: Forgot Quest Warrior and Control Warrior which I think were hated by aggro players and F2P
Control Paladin wasn't cancerous but I don't think that was ever tier 1
That'll do, Huffer. That'll do.
Jade druid and Secret paladin.
Tier decks are cancer because they are tier one decks and everyone wants to play with them.
They weren't when the community wasn't sharing them.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
Quite right. My bad. Thanks for the correction

Rusty Recycler
Ironic. It could recycle others, but not itself.

Apparently consistent non-sub 10% clown fiesta decks = "cancer". Go figure.
