I just played a 70 Legend rogue and I'm only at rank 3. It seems all my opponents lately are around Top 100 Legends. Shouldn't the matchmaking on the ladder be more balanced, in that it actually matches you up with players who are on the same spot on the ladder? Otherwise it doesn't really seem like a true ladder, does it?
If there were hundreds of times more players than there were, the game would work perfectly like you would want, but not that many people are on at a single given time. Less than 1% of the players in the game are legend rank, and an even tinyier percentage than that is online searching for a game at any given point in time. When those legends search for a game, but they are literally the only legends searching for a game at that point in time, hearthstone has no choice but to pair them off with lower-ranked people such as yourself.
I am everytime happy when i meet a legend player while ranking up. It is high likely an easier match than facing a rank 2 or 1. Legend players have nothing to lose and are testing some decks out and in most cases them do not care about loses.
I played 80% of the times versus top 100 legendary players from ranks 3 to legend this season.
Truth is, your rank is determined by your MMR, so even if you're rank 3, if you got there with a huge winstreak your name can show up in the top 100 Legend list they eventually release in their website.

No, its not correct stop talking about what you have no idea.
This game matches you with your MMR not your rank. You can be rank 5 and face Legends more than anything while you can be legend playing only against rank 20 players, this is a fact I am not discussing it, im presenting it to you.
It has been proved multiple times already that if you are on a big winstreak you'll face more legendary players than the players at your rank, and if youre legend with a low rank the chances you'll be facing ranks 5 or less players are also huge.
A few seasons ago, when they used to post top 100 ranks more often(like once in a week), you could at like day 10 or 15 of a season see something like this:
ranks: 1 - random name - Legend 2 - random name - Legend 3 - random name - Legend 4 - random name - Legend ..... 29 - random name - Legend 30 - random name - Rank 3 31 - random name - Legend 32 - random name - Legend .... 80 - random name - Legend 81 - random name - Rank 1
Zeriyah stated long ago that MMR is not included in ranked up until Legend rank. Does not matter how it "feels" like. IF 3 legendary players opt in the same time the legend player with the lowest ranking going to be matched with a player who is not legend. Thats the only exception.
I was quite surprised when I got matched up against a legend player yesterday and I was only at rank 6! Never happened before at this low rank. Usually it's rank 3 and up when facing legends.

Funny that I can get matched up with a legend every time, but they can't. :)
