Many answers to Dean Ayala's question, what would people get back to Heathstone were about achievements.
This is also my personal no. 1 feature. It's just super fun in any game. And achievements would encourage players to build new decks, to try creative things in order to achieve the goals which would result in a much larger deck variety.
Some general thoughts:
- I don't necessarily need gold or dust as rewards for completing achievements. Having some cool titles or cosmetics (i.e. frames for your hero) would be awesome.
- When it comes to completing achievements, all of them should only trigger if you win the match. Why? Because only then people really try to build "real" competitive decks instead of just playing a 30-beast-rubbish-deck.
So let us collect achievements in this thread! It would be nice if people would not mess this thread up with a general discussion about pros and contras of this idea. If you don't like the idea, that's fine. But what I'm really interested in are your ideas what could be possible achievements.
Some suggestions:
- Win 1,000/5,000/10,000 matches with hero x,y,z.
- Play 100/1,000/10,000 Mechs, Elementals, Beasts, Murlocs ...
- Play 100/1,000/10,000 secrets.
- Play minions of three different types in one turn.
- Deal 30/40/50 damage to the opponent's hero in one turn.
To all the people suggesting to put achievements in HS:
This is a nice idea, which will make the hardcore players have something to aim for and as a former WoW-player myself, where the achievements and PvE progression were my main goals, I completely support that,
BUT you people should understand that the main target audience for Blizzard and their game (HS) is those casual players that play a game or two with a goofy meme deck or just a straight copy-pasta tier 1 net deck (cuz why not?!) whenever they feel like it - in the toilet, in the train, lunch breaks, after kids went to bed and the wife is not ready yet, etc. (Why? Because, you know, those guys have phones...)
So, this casual audience won't have time to grind the achievements. And once you (and me) - the hardcore achievement grinders - get the new shiny cosmetics (which will be very soon, compared to those people) - they will start to feel left out. And there is a chance - they will stop playing. Blizzard does not want that.
On a side note, achievements in WoW were added with the release of WoW's 2nd (and in many people opinion the best) expansion (WotLK), so the achievement count/points/rewards grew with the game itself, so to speak. If they start adding achievements in HS now, will they add categories, that require you to play some older expansions/adventures? There will definitely be an outrage in the community again, about how they try to monetize another feature of their game, again. Because there are a lot of people dusting everything, that's rotating out just to be able to craft something viable/fun in the new year, while wearing proudly that "F2P" shirt.
Most of the achis in WoW were also PvE achievements, while HS is a PvP game - you have to lose a lot of games to complete some stupid achievement of "Play X thousend of X tribe" with your "special garbage" deck you have made just for that achievement alone.
The more I think about that, the more problems I see with adding the achievements in HS. And as we all can see - Blizzard can't get their shit together to balance all those 135 new cards they are pushing every 4 months (even tho more than half of them are straight up dust material). Now try to imagine, adding something extra on top of that....

I see that point, that's why I wrote in my OP that the achievements should only count if you win your match, which would prevent people to just play garbage decks.
Apart from that I have another feeling about the general potential. My feeling is that there are much more players that would love grinding for achievements than you think. I also think that it is just a manner of how you balance the different goals and "steps" within an achievement so that casual players don't become demoralized. And people stop playing Hearthstone for many reasons, adding new content would be the most insignificant one.

They could have easily test it with adding more rewards for 1k, 2k, etc ranked wins or adding more levels for the classes - why do you think they didn't bother to do it??? (hint1: HS is for casual players) (hint2: they suck at balancing between casual and hc)

Dude, please, only a retard would start to feel left out of the game because some other people completed faster some achievements that are only for cosmetics.
Cosmetics, dude, we are talking about cosmetics here.

It is the idea of having different steps in achievements, because not everybody will get everything. This principle is the same in every game out there, it doesn't matter which genre you look at.
How can be there an achievements when HS doesnt have a States screen ?
let them first add some organized stats screen that shows all the player history including win/lose most cards and decks used highest rank in season .....etc
Also casual players usually don't give a shit about collecting things like cosmetics in a game, that is usually only a hardcore player thing.
Okay, then tell me please, why didn't they add anything like that yet? Or improve on something existing? It's not that achievements are a new idea.
They don't care about hardcore players that want to collect something (they have their card backs and should just stfu) - what will make them suddenly start to care?
Don't get me wrong - I will be very happy if they add something fresh and new to do in this game. I just can't see it happening, so I am trying to come up with some "ideas" why that might be.

Every game has achievements nowadays HS shouldn't be an exception but it is it's exactly what will make the F2P experience better, give veterans who want reasons to play..
Somethign along those lines is what I expect HS to have this year.. that or reworking the reward system.. it would mke HS way more accessible as well.. as having a system to head start players

Nice reasoning but the casual player will not meet those tryhards as those play ranked not casual. The target audience btw is not the casual player, but those who thrive by autopilot, not much thinking archetypes: the fanboy. And those play casual and ranked.

We make our world significant through the courage of our questions and the depth of our answers.
Also casual players usually don't give a shit about collecting things like cosmetics in a game, that is usually only a hardcore player thing.

They didn't add new cosmetics like rewards @ 1000+ wins because they're just lazy and said they don't want to make something that will only be for 10% of the player base.. which is a mistake because those 10% players are the ones buying packs, pre-ordering and playing a lot of games, not the casuals who play 1 hour a month.
Perhaps they didn't realise it was something so important to the players. Now that Ayala made that tweet and so many players said they wanted achievements badly or at the very least new things to grind for because there's nothing to do in hs. perhaps things will change.
Also as for the OP.. I think there should be new boarders but at an increment of 500 wins. That seems pretty fair for everyone. 500,1000,1500,2000,2500.
If nothing changes by next april, I will lose all faith in blizzard and will seriously consider not buying any packs besides the pre-orders.
Also casual players usually don't give a shit about collecting things like cosmetics in a game, that is usually only a hardcore player thing.

Exactly my point there. It's not that HS is 1-year-old game and they don't want to release all of their ideas at once - people that play the game many hours week after week have been asking for something to grind for a long time.
And I also think and said many times, that 2019 will be a very important year for HS - they need to introduce some big changes in order to make the game interesting for the older players as well as attract newer ones. Otherwise, if they just release their standard 3 expansions, I don't see a very bright future for this game and that makes me sad :(.

Ahm, imho something insignificant like achievements (or other comestic things) shouldn't be the main priority here. I do think this will attract a lot of players (both casuals and try-harders) and could be implemented some day, because it will make HS feel more like a game, but there are far more important issues to fix right now. In a long-ass post I listed my picks for improvements, the biggest ones being polarizing expansions (leading to staleness), casual mode being left out and the dust/reward system needing a change.
Because, honestly, I don't care how flashy a game is - if I have to witness the same formula over and over again, I will get bored and I will eventually quit.

- Play 5/10/20 cards in one turn.
- Heal for 20/30/50/100 health in one match.
I agree
Clear opportunity to improve the game.

I think the achievement now are garbage to many of the same. I like when I can do lots of stuff for a quest. 3 dragns 15 Mech is garbage.

I personally really enjoyed YuGiOh's 'achievements', though you can't really call them that, for summoning difficult to summon minions.
So for HS I'd like things like:
-Summon Al Akir through Windshear Stormcaller
-Summon The Ancient One
-Summon V-07-TR-0N
