Apart from my spelling errors in mentioned post dear moderator, I assume you realise that polarization is quintessential to mindlessness. Deliberate constructing polarization through card design is a important mechanic to define the low skill floor. Albeit if you raise the skill floor, by design automatically avoid polarization. You make it harder to win games, you must think harder, plan better, outwith, outmanoeuvre your opponent. Also a nice result: a better diversified meta, where creative decks can blossom.
This has been discussed in other threads. A sad thing with hearthstone, having 9 different classes and several archetypes within each one, you have to pick your poison:
-Many viable decks with many different playstyles but polarized matchups
or
-A selected few decks performing better than every other but close matchups.
A polarized metagame does have the benefit that more decks become viable solely on the strengths of their good matchups. If midrange decks dominate, the close, winnable matchups are usually more common and less games feel like auto-losses, but it does come at a price: combo decks will be easily overrun and pushed out of viability, for example.
Not to mention, people will complain about the most powerful decks no matter how hard they are to play. Waiting for a miracle rogue to play solitaire while spending your own turn slamming a single minion on the board is not every player's definition of fun, no matter how skillfully the miracle player is at calculating their resources and combos. Some would even use one of your favourite words "mindless" about those games.
A metagame where creative decks blossom is unfortunately pretty much impossible with the speed a metagame evolves these days. A couple of hours after the release of the new expansion people will already know which archetypes show promise and which you should just forget about.
I personally think cubelock is a very interresting new deck with a fairly high skillcap. It started off as a creative deck, then got refined over time, and eventually got nerfed to give room for other decks because of its very high powerlevel when piloted well. It is not all dark!
