I have to say, this post is not about being mad / being toxic about anything game related. I will / want you guys to talk about one of the biggest reasons why its getting less and less players every set. Its lack of updates.
Every online game has to update / add / change / rework at sometime. Like a new game mode, or hero, or even a new play style. Like in League of Legends the team reworks an old champion every 2-3 months, adds new game modes to time to time and it changes the play style radically with its seasons. This surely keeps the game fresh and fun to play. This also makes the players to have fun as they are testing / playing a new style to play. If you are familiar with online games you have to know that this is an essential part of it as not bringing any new things and playing same thing over and over becomes boring at some point.
That's where Hearthstone enters. Don't get me wrong, I have played this game for 3-4 years, which I do not regret a bit. When I started it it felt like an easy and a fast game where I could collect cards, battle, open packs etc. As I continued playing I realised that HS was actually even bigger as it had an meta, arena (which I was getting max 2 wins before) and even a e-sports. After realising this I began to climb the ladder first and had super fun. This went for a year and I began to get bored of it. Matches, cards, sets were not exciting as the old ones, especially KoFT. Even the card reveals were getting boring when Brode left the team.
After not playing for a while I decided to come back and thought about how the game's everything was same as it was 3 years ago. There weren't any new things at all. Everything was the same. Except the sets of course, which do get bring anything new at all these days (Boomsday, Rastakhan, Wİtchwood except Baku kappa). Even the adventures were the same as the Dungeon run type (which i do like but again nothing new). Like they could have added the tournament mode they promised for or a 2v2 mode or even a new class or anything that hasn't been in HS. I believe this is a really big downside of the game and its the reason why its popularity is decreasing.
Again Im not here to be toxic, but this is a serious problem with the game. Heck even those mobile games, Clash of Clans, Candy Crush etc. has updated their game more than any other! Is Blizzard that poor? Are they just an small indie company? I know its hard to print new arts / mechanics / animations etc. But as I said, sets bring nothing but only some cash to them. Please Blizzard I don't want to see one of my fav. game dying / rotting like this. For the love of god update it and bring something new.
Yeah, I think the problem with Hearthstone isn't what it is but what it could be. For example: new heroes, cosmetics, buffs, fixed replayability of adventures, fixed mobile and new player experiences, etc.
Even mounts and transmogs and titles haha
Edit: I keep editing this because I keep thinking of other ideas

Never thought like that but it seems your are correct. They indeed chose the casual side and now sticking up with it. But I also believe that everyone has a time where they get bored of something so even If they have chosen to be appealing to casual they should update it. Not that much at least a great update a year.
Actually, rotations and releases generate new decks, that is a new way to play each class. It's like a rework being done for each class, every expansion.
Sure more can and should be done. But it's not as stale as other kind of games.
I think smaller sets being released more frequently, like every 2-3 months, would make the game more fresh and exciting. Here we get 3 big sets/ year, but most of them are filler, and a lot of players resist crafting and experimenting for fear of wasting dust, so they miss out during the most exciting time play.
yea u are right it's become worse and worse they only brings a new set for money and u can't keep up with the game if u need to buy a lot of packs to play with every new set even the old player will be hard for them and it will be boring to play a lot like dat for getting gold unless he has a lot of money to spend it in 1 game and play from time to time to not feel boring that's wt i think i'm playing for 5 years now and i don't play rank anymore unless wanna test new decks new cards, also it will not be a big majority of change bcuz they can't bring a new class hero or any big change it will cost money more than they want to earn it's better to gain money by brings new sets every time blizzard thinks only about money :)
IMHO, eliminate the Basic/Classic sets. There are a lot of decks where like 80% of the cards are basic/classic, and stuff feels stale.
Get rid of almost all of it.
Meanwhile, bring back lower-power stray cards from older expansions to fill things back up. The recent GVG/TGT/WW/BDP brawl was wicked cool, since it brought a limited selection of old cards back, and locked out a lot of staple cards.
I understand there is a benefit to having cards which remain the same in terms of allowing absent folks to return to a familiar game. The drawback is that a lot of HS is stale for everyone else.
... why its getting less and less players every set. Its lack of updates. ....and its the reason why its popularity is decreasing.
Not sure were you're getting your data, but I'm 100% sure your source is totally wrong. Time to find an opponent who is pretty much at the same level as you are, as stayed the same since the beginning of the game, no matter what time of day you're playing. Longer queue would be the only clue that players are dwidling but that's not the case. In fact, it's pretty much the only game I've seen that lasted so long without having queue time becoming longer.

The decreasing amount of players is not wrong, just look at the viewers it gets on the past card reveals or the popularity in twitch. You can easily see that its a lot more less than last year. Also I never said anything about matchmaking and queue watcha talking about?

OP: Paragraphs! Learn how to use them.

My god pls use paragraphs.
They could rotate events like MTG Arena does on sealed events etc.
Every 4 months an expansion should rotate, instead of 3 together once a year. The game will be always refreshed.
Just Allow Cards trading or open an auction house to sell cards instead of crafting system that will make it really interesting game .
Does anybody want my awesome Marin the Fox?

You right man. but blizzard don't care. and I'm mad about this

Add another gamemode for the love of god. The actual gamemodes haven't changed for 3 years and it gets stale.

My apologies, I totally forgot them and concentrated just for the text itself.
Btw, if the game is really and steadily losing viewers and regular players, it can hardly recover, no matter what they do.
At best, they can slow down the fall.
