So I thought I had this great idea until I thought about Genn and Baku (Talk about limiting design space) but it could still possibly work.
Anyway, since Team 5 has started to gut classic (and therefore class identity) what if they allowed us to chose an alternative HP while deckbuilding?
Some examples I thought of were:
Rogue - Give a minion stealth for 1 turn
Mage - Reduce the cost of a spell in your hand by 1
Druid - Give a minion +1/+1
Things like this would allow for greater diversity in deck-building and give some new flavor to class identity. What do you guys think? Potentially cool idea or total bust?
I'm all for this, as long as these options are tied to some deckbuilding restrictions, similarly to Genn and Baku (but not necessarily Odd/Even) or Keleseth.
Wow I should really dig a little harder next time. It’s crazy but these are some of the same ideas I had and I’ve never even seen this thread. Maybe the Hearthstone community is onto something?
Presumably, the design team will continue to introduce alternate Hero Powers as they always have - by sticking the new powers on a spell or a minion or a hero card. Adding alternate HPs, or anything else, just for the sake of adding them, seems kind of pointless - what's to be gained by giving each class two HPs to choose from, as opposed to continuing to release a bunch of cards that change/interact with/buff the current HPs?
I was thinking along the lines of adding more flavor and being able to build entire decks around the HP instead of a card. I get what you’re saying but I do think there’s a whole other level of creative deckbuilding to be had. As of right now you can only upgrade an existing HP or have to wait until the later stages of the game (pending you draw said card) in order to change it entirely. This would allow you focus your deck on the HP from the get go.
Almost certainly never going to happen. Taken from an interview with Mike Donais in late 2017...
"When asked if this implementation of death knights had killed the possibility of whole new classes ever coming to the game, Mike Donais replied that "We’ve always said that we like the nine classes we have. We work really hard to try to give some class identity to those nine classes, and it’s tough, because nine is a lot. Adding a tenth or eleventh class isn’t something we’re interested in. It’s too hard to make class identity exist when there are that many different classes. So yeah, we’re not excited about the idea of making new classes."[9]
Yes I know it was a while ago, but I really don't think that thier viewpoints would have changed. And the fact that they keep releasing new Hero Cards instead probably points to that direction.
Blizzard killed Master of Disguise for limiting design space. A hero power that's essentially a 2 mana tax per turn to get permanent stealth (even better because you can attack then stealth again) would be pretty insane.
Those are fine attached to cards. Even though they're sometimes a bust (dinomancy, scourgelord garrosh) I think most cards that changed hero powers saw play (most of the hero cards, vilefin inquisitor, etc)

A 1 mana card with good stats available to all clases, that let you discover a basic hero power from another class, did see play? No way, no f..king way... (sarcasm off)
The problem with that idea is that to work blizzard will need to leave the confort zone of only design 2 mana hero powers and consider hero power as a tool that can get buffs or nerfs.
It can work and will probably be a blast but need a real evolution from the design team as we know.

Yes it would be interesting. There was a thread about the same idea a few weeks ago
https://www.hearthpwn.com/forums/hearthstone-general/general-discussion/228715-idea-every-hero-has-a-choice-of-2-hero-powers
The rogue and druid ideas seem super swingy. Fledgling with permanent stealth or odd druid that gives minion +2 attack and health
Where did you get +2 attack and health from, and permanent stealth from?
Ya by no means were those my final ideas but rather just ‘off the top’
I’ll check it out. Thank you.

No, just no!
But It would be great if Blizzard adds new heroes(Im not talking about hero skins). They will have a new hero power of course
New heroes? Or a new Class? Because only one of those is an option...
4/3/19 RIP Keith Flint. 😔
New class obviously

Good to know, thanks for sharing

Give me a Sir Finley who discovers a HP for your opponent.
