For people who have been playing for awhile - is it really true that things are worse in this meta compared to how things have always been on the ladder? I stopped playing ladder many meta-moons ago because of the same reasons I see on these threads - got boring playing against the same handful of optimized netdecks in the ranks below Legend. Is it the case that there are even fewer decks being played now, or has the issue just been magnified because there are 3 or 4 decks within the same class (Hunter) so it's more obvious these days? Or is there something special about the make-up of these Hunter decks that is worse than before?
Personally, I banged my head against the wall for awhile trying to fulfill two goals - reaching legend and having "fun" (which I didn't define in terms of winrate). But over time I came to accept that, at least for my skill level/card collection, these two were often mutually exclusive. It was better for my sanity to have an optimized mindset when playing ladder (so the predictability of decks was actually a good thing in terms of deciding on which techs to include) and then striving for fun in casual, wild, tavern brawls (like last week's!), the occassional arena run. and all the solo content (definitely recommend replaying the old adventures with all the new cards). Over time I've played less and less ladder and nowadays just do the 5 monthly wins.
I just started playing again last month after a 2 year break and I certainly feel it's more diverse now. Of course most decks are netdecked, but climbing my way upwards (7-8) I see various types of hunters, lots of priests of all kinds, odd-warrior with or without quest, even shaman, odd paladin, otk paladin, zoolock, cubelock, an occasional druid.
as for fun and climbing, I try both. I also play hunter due to the lack of cards, but I do play fun cards like untamed beastmaster and revenge of the wild, which all actually rather good, but also a lot of fun to play around with and make the deck a bit more interesting.
Interesting. I felt the point was rather clear. You made a rather unlikely claim that Hunter was a diverse and varied class (assuming this is what you meant by "tons of options") - which is amusing, simply because it is widely considered to be one of the most 1-dimensional classes within the game. It is one of (if not the only) class that focuses purely on beat-down style of play and little else. Whether through flooded aggro or midrange power play. Even Recruit Hunter with it's taunting wolves still requires giant charge minions for its finishing strategy. It doesn't even fit the control archetype. Not to mention that it is the only class with a Hero Power completely fixated on aggro style of play.
This all alludes to the expression of slight bemusement at the idea that Hunter could be considered any more multi-dimensional than any other class. I've yet to see a viable Hunter Control or Hunter OTK deck (that isn't a pure meme).
"Widely considered one dimensional".- by WHO? Firebat has stated on stream that Hunter has become the most skill demanding class to play because of the DK Rexxar since very Zombeast created is a dynamic decision. Obviously you don't believe this. But the opinion of a World Class player is obviously higher than a whiny little child, so nobody gives a chit about your opinion.
I don't think anybody gives a "chit" about anything. Regardless of foul-mouthed, whingy little kids like yourself. But each to their own. You do you. Since it's obvious nobody else is willing to... As for Firebat, I like the guy and enjoy watching his streams. I am also very aware that he completely disagrees frequently with other "world class" players like Kibler and Zalae; I've sat there and watched them argue about classes such as Hunter. But I'm sure you already knew this, being the Bastion of Butt-licking Brown-Nosers that you appear to be.
Though I am highly intrigued as to your explanation as to why you think you know better than Kibler, Zalae and a number of other "World Class" players. This should be good...
(Hint: Time to crawl back in your hole with a red face there, kiddo...)

You are highly intrigued by yourself, but I think you are a moron. Hence, you qualify for the Ignore feature.

Good talk, troll-boy. I'm a "moron" because he acted like one.... Hmmmmm..... XD
i prefer ladder against hunter all day than those filthy combo priests.
Are they filthy because they make you loose your shit?
i win half of the matchup against those, but ofc is super bad when that other half is board clear into board clear into turn 9 40 damage to face. Since you assume because i put that opinion i loss against those decks, i can guess you play that disgusting deck 24/7?
What are people expecting? There are 4 viable hunter builds. The class is popular, but the highest representation of any class right now is 12% spell hunter at the rank 11 and rank 16. 12% out of 9 classes is hardly broken. It's a matter of perception and I doubt the devs can come up with any class that is fun to lose to.
This especially matters because these 4 hunter decks are different in terms of playstyles. They range from an aggressive variant over 2 midrange decks to a control one.
I find it really annoying too. And playing a deck that counters hunter doesn't make the game more enjoyable.. It's just plain boring almost only facing one class :(
Yup I am there with you man. I am at Rank 5 just trying to play some fun decks but I usually face a hunter of some sort, which wipe the floor with me lol
might I suggest playing in wild casual?
I have found recently that this place is glorious for playing weird and fun homebrew decks. I have yet to encounter a single face deck and have been able to really get into the swing of things with my tesspionage miracle rogue.
You misunderstod the game. 9 heroes, +2000 cards, but i am playing against the same class, with the same 30 cards, over and over and over again.
Its so FUCKING BORING, the game is about fun. It's not fun to force people to play a counter to hunters. Thats making THEM deciding what you should play?!
Right now the meta is 100% hunter, or play a 100% counter to hunter, thats the only 2 ways of playing HS right now :D, might aswell remove the 8 other classes.
I guess you are a low rank because hunter is mostly common there. In lower ranks hunters are becoming more rare, everybody is playing priest, otk (pali) or some hyper aggro (odd pali, odd rogue). The lower you go the less hunters you will meet.
And IMHO, it's the number of priest (clone or control) and OTK paladins that are currently defining the meta : there are plenty of decks that can beat hunters, but not so many that can deal with combo and otk decks types.

Can we relax with the needles toxic replys.

Sooooooo....
Play another game?
Agree too...braindead strategy all the way... I have it but I don't like to play with it...

play wild. there's barely any hunters.

There are not many. And they are weak against other stuff. So no.
Quasi-stellar radio source
It's what Blizzard wanted, if you don't like it, don't play tbh

Actual stats from my run on Europe (rank 3, 2,1 and legend) starting from Monday morning :
62 games. Matched 18 hunters, 14 priests, 13 paladins, 6 rogues, 4 demos, 3 mages, 2 shamans, 1 warrior, 1 druid.
So it's not as bad as people seems to think.
And IMHO, it's the number of priest (clone or control) and OTK paladins that are currently defining the meta : there are plenty of decks that can beat hunters, but not so many that can deal with combo and otk decks types.
